I bought three snapdragon plants this morning in Morrisons, only £1.30 each, white and very healthy looking, hope those damned chooks don't scoff them. Jacobean
Afternoon. Weather's gone a bit dull. My latest course assignment is: From amongst friends or colleagues try to find examples of diet or medical treatment that has affected them their family members, people that they have met, their pets or friends pets. These effects could be physical, emotional or behavioural. Report your conclusions based on what they tell you. If anyone would like to contribute I would love to hear from you. Rumpole
Pickles cerebellar ataxia hypoplasia is thought by specialists to have been caused by his mother being vaccinated late in pregnancy, the condition has behavioural as well as physical implications and i did a bit about the issues in my canine aggression exams. i can ping that over if its any use as it has most of the issues listed in it
eve
I am at our cottage in France and have two little visitors. One 14 year old corgi cross boy and one 10 year old chihuahua cross girlie abandoned at vets in Calais last Saturday as their owners are going back to UK and there was a problem with one of their Pet Passports. They are so gorgeous and loving and totally devoted to each other. I can't imagine how anyone could dump them like this. 14 and 10 years old for god's sake!!! They are staying with us for a couple of days then my OH is taking them back to a foster home in the UK. Not brilliant pics but here are Tula and Foxy crashed out on a sofa after their ordeal. owl
Poor mites, thank goodness you and your OH have got them safe. I took Roger to Cefn Sidan beach this afternoon. As soon as we turned into Pembrey Park he started jumping about and whining - he knows the place! I had to keep him on a long lead as otherwise he would now be on his way to the Isle of Lundy. He got a bit over-excited and I got well soaked above my welly tops as he was splashing so much. He was a bit ribby and rather nervous and miserable when he arrived. He has now filled out and is building muscle, and is very confident and happy. If life at the owlery has this effect on dogs, how come I miss out on the fitness and joie de vivre? Perhaps I should be eating what they do.

chickentikka
Tula and Foxy are scrummy. Some people are so heartless and callous it's beyond belief Owl, your Roger dog sounds a grand little fella. Can your girls not come home yet to meet him Where has the big yellow fing in the sky gone we've got a teambuild thing tomorrow afternoon and it's outdoors followed by a feed in a swanky Thai place. I'm sure they'll welcome a miserable group of drowned rats My dogwalker is ace she does some walks and works p/time at a local supermarket. Her old dad is staying with her for a few weeks while some work is being done on his place and he's been bored being left on his own. The last couple of days she's come round in the morning to pick up Dex so her dad can look after him during the day and then drops him back here about 4 ish. He sends me a little note to say what they've been up to, mostly watching daytime tv, a few pees in the garden (Dex only ) and an afternoon nap. He's getting Fleur as well tomorrow as I'm out longer. That will liven things up as there are chooks for Fleur to look after.

snow
Have had one of those days where everything has gone wrong and was jinxed. Can't believe it's only Tuesday. Feel like I've been in work for a week. yup - today in fact the obstacle course that is my office at work claimed me as a victim today which it's been threatening to do for quite some time, I've collected an assortment of bumps and bruises trying to pick my way over and through the junk that gets dumped there over the months but today it really got me good and in trying to get past the kiln to reach my photocopier I managed to clout my bad knee against the underside of the corner unit. The pain was so intense I was in no danger of turning the rectory air blue as it totally took my breath away and robbed me of any rational thought other than OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW followed swiftly by intense nausea. The lump came up instantly and turned a very vivid purple/black - unfortunately it really is my bad knee - I did a similar thing to it about 20 years ago which knocked my kneecap loose and resulted in a trip to A&E, weeks off work and permanent damage to the knee cap and the impact today was in almost the identical spot on my knee I gave it 30 mins but could see that the bruise was continuing to swell and spread so sent myself home sick before my leg seized up and prevented me from driving, plus I wanted to get home and get some ice on it and take one of my anti inflammatories. Luckily I think I have just missed the damaged spot by a gnats whisker and the bruise & swelling has spread sideways rather than down onto the kneecap itself, it's hot to the touch and keeps reminding me it's there every few mins by sending a nice jolt of pain down my shin but I am still mobile and able to bend the knee so hopefully I've had a lucky escape. Ironically for such a painful bruise it's not really that big, it feels worse than it looks.
owl
Owl, your Roger dog sounds a grand little fella. Can your girls not come home yet to meet him Wispa is very territorial about her home and might bully Roger who is less butch than she is. It might work out OK but the chances are we would all end up down the vet, Polly would be frightened and the neighbours would be deafened. If I were a really superb handler I could stay on top of things and sort them all out. But I know my limits. My friend Mike's lurcher Stevie has stayed here, but Wispa has known him for ages and knows he can and will flatten her if she pushes him too far. If Wispa and Roger got to play on neutral ground they might be great mates, but even then I doubt she would be OK with him staying here. :flowers: to your dogwalker and her dad, they sound just what you need right now. celeste
On first reading I thought Owl was referring to her OH, but I'm guessing he doesn't whine and jump about when the car stops . My mammy's in hospital , she was unresponsive on Sunday and had to be put on oxygen, they think she has an infection and the Tramadol she's on for damage to the bottom of her spine is probably the cause of the unresponsiveness, isn't it awful to wish your own mum would die, she'd have hated to be like this ( she has alzheimer's ) it was her one greatest fear when she was still my mum.
