Found out last night one of my old teachers at school has cancer and its taken a turn for the worse, reading between the lines he doesnt have much longer left.

one of my old school friends added me to a face book group set up, in under a week over 4000 messages from old pupils have been posted which just goes to show how much he influenced generations of kids, he was one of my favorites too

I googled the consultant I am seeing tomorrow - not too sure that was a good idea, on the plus side I'm actually apparently seeing the top man he's the clinical lead for Gynecology who specialises in minimal access surgery & pelvic masses and developed the first fast access pelvic mass clinic in Wales (presumably this is where I'm going) however on the downside he's the go to guy for gynecological oncology across Wales.

Thanks Alex x

Must admit I'm in a bit of a state this morning - because I'm seeing the consultant I didn't take any pain killers last night nor have I taken any this morning, unfortunately whatever is happening left side decided to take advantage and I am in a lot of pain absolutely dreading the walk to the clinic which is at the farthest point in the hospital from the car park :(

Snow...hope you see this before you go...fingers legs and eyes crossed here for you. Go in the main door of the hospital and ask for a wheelchair, you can't be expected to walk if you are in pain. When I went back in as an emergency after my breast op, I was perfectly capable of walking to the ward but they plonked me in a chair regardless.

I'm back ...

So I've seen the consultant - its been a very long day, I was at the hospital for well over 6 hours! I have been poked, prodded, & had 2 lots of scans. Short version is that I was correct Sid is NOT on the right side he is actually on the left - which is what I have said all along! He's also very high up (they couldn't find him at first lol) confirmed as at least 17cm. So we'll start with the best news - no sign of any cancer or malignancy *phew* next good news is that other than Sid everything else is perfectly healthy and normal, moreover it very much appears I am very close to have completed menopause or well on my way *yayy* so all indications are that I don't need a hysterectomy *yippeeee* instead it'll be a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) to remove Sid, the left ovary & fallopian tube, a wash and brush up and a biopsy just to be 10000000% sure and it's classed as "urgent" so in theory will be in the next 3 - 6 weeks, however... bad news is consultant is not convinced Sid is the cause of the pain and I need to prepare myself for the pain still being present when Sid has been evicted - this was not the news I wanted to hear there is a few things it could be some which could be revealed during the LAP and would be sorted out then and there, theres also the possibility that once they start the LAP they might find I do need it all out after all so I could wake up and find its all gone anyway (this wouldn't be a brilliant outcome given what came next). Soooo as a large lady I'm classed as "high risk" this means that unlike most people who have keyhole surgery I will be going straight to the High Dependency Unit for at least 24 hours post surgery, the longer I am under a GA the higher the risks become. So at that point I was feeling pretty OK with things disappointed that this might not resolve the pain issue but pretty sure in my own head that there IS a direct link and hopeful that I prove her wrong.

So then I was sent directly to preop assessment as I said I'd be available short notice if theres a cancellation, thats where we hit a snag I was told last year I had a heart murmur, and its still there, so the anesthetist wanted me to have an ecg - and unexpectedly that has revealed a possible problem with my heart so I'm being referred for a cardiac ultrasound it hasn't necessarily scuppered the LAP as the anesthetist doing my surgery may accept the risk and go ahead anyway, but the Dr I spoke to thinks that unlikely and that if it were him doing it then he'd insist on the cardio results first. So they've sent an "urgent" request through to cardiology for me to have that scan asap and only then will a decision be made as to whether the surgery can go ahead as planned.
I had absolutely NO idea that there could be anything wrong with my heart, so thats come as rather a shock tbh, still thinking positively as I would have thought if it were anything serious I'd have had some symptoms or signs and I haven't plus my BP is monitored every 6 months and has been pretty good the last couple of times.
Sooo thats where I am - lots of info to take in loads I'm sure I've forgotten and will come back to me but in a nutshell thats it.
