February's Fascinating Fandangles

Morning :tired: On the plus side, I didn't wake at 4am. On the down side, I woke up at 3.15 instead

If it is the bit of drain between the sink and the mains drain, you can get a metal bendy snake with a weight at the end for that. Which part of the drainage system is blocked?

It's the outside drain between the drive and the drain which runs along the bottom of the properties. I have had a thought about what I could possibly do, will try my cunning plan later.

Jules and Karen - I hope you both find your dream dog soon :flowers:

Yes I can. With possible a sticky label saying Do Not Touch This Switch You Stupid Owl!

I was thinking more along the lines of yellow electrical tape, it's the sort of thing that we'd do here!

I'm in the North East Karen, between Durham and Newcastle. I don't mind how far we have to travel though. Are you looking for the same as me, an oldie lurcher girl? My biggest problem is having a cat, which rules out a lot of working lurchers, although I think my beloved Princess Fairy Lurcher Tess had been a worker and she eventually happily lived with my cat, and the chickens too.

I'm looking for anything apart from a terrier and rough/long coated dogs! I can't believe that I've looked on and off for 18 months and either not found, or missed out on, another dog! My difficulty is that I have rabbits and chickens and although everything is safely housed, we've had a couple of dogs here on foster who have just been obsessed with trying to get into the garden in order to chase (or dig out in one case) the rabbits! So it's essential for the new dog to be not too interested in small furries. I do especially love greyhounds but I'm not doing well in finding an older one who is small animal friendly! I'll shout if I spot anything likely for you :flowers:

Forgot my RMF of the day - I accidentally tipped over a large tub of meal worms in the house this morning. Dried ones fortunately. While I was on my hands and knees sweeping them up, Rosie decided to be sick behind me.

The day can only get better.

I had another quick skwoosh down the drain this morning before work, which seemed to help a tad, though it might be wishful thinking. I have a cunning plan to try out tonight re bending the drain rod around the bend in the pipe. I just hope that a) it works and b) the pipe is straight after the first bend or I'm buggered.

That will have stopped your "habits" for a few weeks then. Whats the talent like there anyway ?

Dunno, have become a hermit apart from dog walking and tracking. People in general are very friendly, at least the ones I meet out walking. I don't have enough energy to even think of socialising and have become very boring, just trying to survive the winter, keep an eye on mum, and organise getting the rest of my stuff up here.

What a pity you are so far from me, my foster Bob lurcher would be perfect for you. Well, I've not rabbit tested him as don't have buns any more, but I reckon that when my own two dogs (both of whom have lived with a houserabbit) go hurtling off after wild bunnies and he just stands there and looks gormless, he's a pretty safe bet.

I have nowt to report  Still searching for an oldie girl lurcher who wants a quiet home. Most of the lurchers around here are working dogs and have litter after litter when they get older :(

Have you looked on GRWE? Not sure about age but they do have cat/chicken/small furry friendly dogs on their website at the moment :flowers:

JulesB and Karen - don't know if it's a bit far for you, but Di (Helly) has the RGT Merseyside using her kennels, and she can cat test so might be worth PMing her :flowers:

So many bootiful old dogs needing homes - if I didn't have four oldies myself I'd be seriously tempted by Bob

After spending ages on my hands and knees with my hand down the drain and having bent one of the drain rods to fit in the next hole, I came up against another solid bit of drain. Having done a bit of Googling, it appears that my drain looks something like the one below, so impossible to get the drain rods down rolleyes.gif

However, what I was trying to do was to get the water level to drop right down, but on looking at the diagram, it's supposed to be to the level it's at rolleyes.gif I've done lots of plunging with the drain rod and rubber fing on the end and it seems to be okay. But, when I turn the kitchen tap on full blast and go outside, I can see the water level rising to the top of the drain, but when I turn the water off again, I can see that the water is draining away fairly rapidly, but I am not sure whether it is supposed to be draining away faster than it is. I'm a muppet I know rolleyes.gif

Can someone do me a favour please and turn their kitchen tap on full and watch their drain to see if what my drain is doing is correct? unsure.gif

Try soda crystals

Drains, gutters and waste pipes - Pour half a bag (500g) of Soda Crystals directly down the drain and leave for ten minutes before rinsing with very hot water to keep them clear of grease and blockages.
