Oh they certainly are Suzeanna. We learned that with Tye ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

On a more sober note people in town are starting to see rats - the brazen buggers are strolling down the streets and popping into gardens along the way to see if there's anything to eat. My friends' had one mosey up their drive whilst they were in the garden watering. It ended up on their neighbours patio where it helped itself to their courgettes! And it was a BIG one. My friend said if she'd thrown a saddle on its back her grandsons could have riddenย it ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

You'd rock that look Suzeanna - go for it lol.

What's bringing the rats in Yantan - no waste food outside restaurants so they're coming looking for it?

Owl, I saw your post on Facebook about your Dad. How sad he died so young fighting for his country and you never got to know him. I know you said it's strange being proud of someone you didn't know. But you know what he did, the sacrifices he made and you're part of him and there will always be a bit of him in you and the wonderful woman you turned out to be.

Thank you Eve.ย  On a slightly lighter note my parents met at a dinner given by the RAF in Oxford to welcomeย General de Gaulle and theย Free French. The nurses from the John Radcliffe were invited also,ย  much to the delight of the Free French, who mum said became very free indeed. She found them a bit much and quickly foundย solace in the company ofย the more reserved RAF officer next to her. So in a strange way, General de Gaulle is the reason I am here!ย

Not many people who aren't his progeny can say that, Owl!

My mother lost two of her brothers in the war, both in the Merchant Navy.ย  My father was in the RAF..invalided out after being wounded.ย  My godmother..the one who was in the SOE..said she went out for a couple of drinks with a Polish airman.ย  When she said goodnight he unzipped and clamped her hand on his...you know what.ย  She firmly removed it and told him that in England, we shake hands!ย

My daughter lives in a small square of cottages and they were having a drinks and nibbles party today.ย  She texted me earlier and saidย  she's going to have an awful hangover tomorrow.ย  I texted back and said why, what had she been drinking? She replied if you can think of it, we've been drinking it! oh dear...

Dreadful to lose one brother in the family, but losing two ...

I believe that more lives were lost in the Merchant Navy then in the RN, and so often they are not mentioned but they kept theย nation fed.

Well said, your godmother :)ย

My brief spell of freedom is over for theย time being. We went to the reserve yesterday and walked forย an hour. Unfortunately something went wrong with indicators so the left one always indicates and I cant' turn it off. Had to trundle home with hazards on so at least the few folk around knew I had a problem, rather than indicating left all the time. I fear this may be some very fiddly thing in the wiring loom or a worn outย switch, and may need to wait until I am allowed to drive to Worksop to the car electrics specialist.ย

Owl, Philip said sometimes a blown bulb can cause indicators to do strange things.ย  Hopefully it'll be a quick and not expensive fix when you can get somewhere.ย  To be honest, if the car place is open, and a lot of garages are, that should count as an essential journey if you need your car to get to a doctor or go shopping.

My mother actually lost three of her brothers, the two in the Merchant Navy and another who was giving his daughter a driving lesson.ย  She lost control of the car and crashed into a lamp post and killed him. The youngest of the Navy ones, Billy, was only 24 and his wife was three months pregnant so his son, like you, never did know his father.

How are you feeling today, Jazz? Better I hope? I've got something weird going on with my skin on and under my boobs, it's peeling off in sheets. Not the way you peel from sunburn.ย  We think maybe I'm turning into a snake, and sloughing.ย

Thatย is awful about theย crash. How on earth does a young girl cope with accidentally killing her father?

It was not such a bad thing as peopleย thought for me notย to have known my father. We went back to live with grandparents whoย  brought me up while my mum went back to nursing at a local hospital. Grandpa had a tied cottage on the Oaklands estate whichย was theย Herts Intstitute of Agriculture. He was the pig keeping instructor there. The cottage had a garden and we had hens and vegetables so were better fed than many.ย

The really sad thing is that there was a major rift with paternal grandparents when I was about 3. I think that grandma lost the plot completely through grief, first wanted to adopt me and then because my mum naturally wanted to keep me she took against my mum, and a while later declared I was not really my father's daughter as he had never seen me and therefore I counted as illegitimate. I know there are 2 sides to everything, butย I also know that my mum had remonstrated with her MIL for telling me repeatedly how theย Germans had killed my father which was not a suitableย topic of conversationย for a 3 year old.ย ย

im sorry to hear that owl. Ive never known my dad, even his name. The family do, my brothers have worked with him, but mother wouldn't let anyone tell me. stupid ay?

I bought some garlic salt, used it once, the lid is on tight but the cupboard stunk of it, so its in the conservatory. The flies are all round it. It doesn't keep them away then? how do you store yours?

Owl, it will most likely be a failure of this

Bits of plastic sometimes break off or they just stick, it's not a hard job really, I used to fix land rovers and that involved taking the steering wheel off but even that wasn't hard or time consuming. Hoping that is all the problem is... equally could be a relay failure... likewise they can stick some times

I shall now refer to you as sssssssuezanna lol....kidding! Is it a side effect of your medication do you think?? And I hope your daughter's head isn't too bad today but good for them!

Had to rescue my neighbour last night.. tomato ketchup emergency and this morning flat battery! So been and shown her how to use jump leads...but of course I am a crap neighbour lol
