April's Alluring Orations

RMQ: Looking at another thread tonight has made me wonder why people would visit a board and view threads but not comment? It's the equivalent of eavesdropping.

I can see it both ways

I have started a number of threads recently 2 of which are still on the 1st page of non animal chat that have had numerous views but no comments ( except my own ) I have not taken it personally rather that of the small group of posters here no one is intrested that issue ( I have started a poll that has had answers so it appears people are still talking to me laugh.gif )

that said sometimes I want to answer a thread or a number of threads in doggie chat and I don't because if I do answer them all ( and I would answer a number of them as i would not wish to be unfair ) I feel I could end up being the only poster for hours / days and I would feel like a right old sad sack being the last poster / thread killer on a whole page. I really think the slower it gets the harder it is even for regular posters to post

Maybe others feel the same or maybe I am just a boring sad sack thread killer laugh.gif

What a scorcher it's been today. 1 day to go...

I do know which of the houses on the programme you mean Julia :flowers: The way it finished it looks like there might be another series. Shan't spoil it by saying anything else

:GroupHug: Jazz. Hope your mum is feeling better later and the dog is found safe.

Hope the viewing went well Andrea. :GroupHug: for everything else going on. It's an awful time you're all having.

I can understand about the not replying to a thread thing if someone is worried about something etc as it doesn't take any longer just to put a hug in if not saying anything. It will help the person. I'm one of those who always does have to say something though

Just putting feelers out at the moment - as you know my boss had to have his much loved border terrier pts on Saturday, the family are tentatively looking for another dog (I say tentatively as the children and wife are looking the boss is still grieving so isn't sure hes ready so soon). They have always had a dog from a breeder before and are a little hesitant about a rescue dog (I've been doing a lot of de-mything as to why dogs end up in rescue) I'm also aware and have told them that many rescues would not rehome to them at present because of the ages of the children, however, I said I'd see what I could find.

Their situation: Rector & wife - both experienced dog owners 4 children all of whom have been brought up around dogs and animals (mum is a farmers daughter the family plus dog regularly spend weekends back on the farm). There is pretty much always someone home including me being here 3 - 4 days a week - a dog would be rarely left home alone and if it was then it would be no more than a couple of hours. Very large house, nice big fully enclosed and secure garden. Dog would have the full run of the house and be a huge part of the family. Children are 8, 6 yr old twins and a 1 yr old. Millie used to go into schools and church to help with services and lessons, so a dog with a PAT dog type temperament would be perfect. This is a busy household - there are always people coming and going, group bible study, confirmation classes etc are held here pretty much daily plus of course the benefice office is here so I have people coming to see me or the rector many times a day, additionally there are regular baby/children sitters and a cleaner twice a week. Having said that the house is busy - and it is - there are plenty of places a dog can go to have some peace and quiet, Millie usually came and sat in with me when I am working & theres also a dog flap so that it can go in and out as it chooses and some fab places to sit and sun or just laze the day away. The bosses wife is very active, she likes to hike and walk and cycle, Millie always accompanied her whatever the activity and all the family enjoy going for long walks on the downs.

They are looking for a youngish bitch or even a puppy they'd love another Border Terrier, but will consider any small terrier e.g. Cairns, JRT, Patterdale, cross breed etc. though sadly not a bullbreed. The boss has a mild allergy and finds wire haired breeds rough coats are Ok whereas soft coated or long hair breeds can trigger his allergy but it does seem to be dependant on the dog. House training, lead issues and even being reactive to other dogs are all things which they are happy to work with, they are also used to dealing with dogs with high prey drives. They are happy to travel to meet the right dog, so if anyone knows of any suitable candidates with rescues that would consider them and their circumstances please let me know.

Look here  But I think there is only a boy left  http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=240789&st=15&&do=findComment&comment=3584949

I haven't even been in the poll thread Sam because I just don't think I'd understand the arguments, never mind be able to make a decision  I am going to venture in later though. It is nice when the board is a bit lively, there have been lots of threads and posters today, which is good. It all helps with work avoidance

RMF: What is it with Twitter - a hair transplant technology specialist from the US is following me, and he's just behind recent new followers of a self-confessed sex addict, a zoo (boo) and a cartoonist. I'm only on there for work purposes and I don't flatter myself that I ever say anything much that is massively interesting. It's just silly

I've just read that Tailends Rescue has closed. I knew the owner, Angela, had very sadly died but I had thought the rescue might continue. Tailends gave so many old, ill dogs a home in their twilight years, it's so sad their work will not continue :(

Morning :tired:

I haven't read back cos my brain is mush after two days of spreadsheets, so please take a Group_Hug_Emoticon.gif if needed.

Last day today and then I'm off for 12 days, although I suspect that I will end up doing some work in that time. I am also back at the study centre next weekend so will have to do at least some studying.

My hoover has just died..it made a funny noise, then an awful burning smell and smoke started coming out of the side! I hastily unplugged it and put it outside, just in case it caught alight.

Sorry about your washing machine Jazz, not what you need when you are already feeling ill. :GroupHug: I hope the dog is soon caught, she must be scared silly.
