Good morning.

Can I pass on a request from Greyhound Gap to support them by voting for Molly Poole who is 10 years old. She has spent her summer raising money for Greyhound Gap. If she wins Greyhound Gap will get £10.000.

She made it into the top ten of the first round of voting. Second stage of voting is now underway.

Blackmagic I've voted :)

Well the genealogical research has paid off. I have now got further back than ever before and that's to my 12 x great grandfather Robert Curwen born in 1453!!

It's generally hard to get back further than the late 1500's when more regular records started. However if an ancestor comes from a "notable" family or royalty then the records exist. The Curwen's were a notable family from Workington, Cumbria i.e they were lords of the manor which makes a change from the more usual farmers and miners I've found in my family tree.

The Curwen family history is a long one so I should be able to go back quite a lot further. Exciting!!

i am sad...i have just had to take Steves dog Max for his final journey....we are both devestated, i have only known max a couple of months but i was the last person to give him kisses and cuddles as Steve couldn't bear to stay with him...i am sobbing my heart out. My lovely mum has picked up the bill for the cremation and PTS, the vet said she suspected an agressive cancer and all the money in the world wouldn't have changed the outcome but most likely prolonged his suffering and at some point she would have had a duty to say enough was enough

Marian, our family goes back to the middle 1600s to a prominent (but not landed gentry) family in Cheshire, one of our family names is the Cheshire village where we hail from, I was born and raised in the west country but 20 years ago I upped sticks and moved - to Cheshire...

Sorry to hear your new Griff, have had to do that to 2 of mine but although its devastating I saw it as an honour and a privilege to be there in their final moments before them taking up residence over the rainbow bridge to wait for me

Have voted Blackmagic, and I have a few email addresses so I can vote again as well !

So sorry about Max, Griff, you were very brave to stay with him. Yantan, I tried researching my family but can't find any references to my parents. Think we must be from another planet! Got to see an orthopaedic specialist about my back but my leg has suddenly got much worse. I can walk and lie down but sitting for even moments is agony. I'm getting fed up with it as we've had to cancel our planned trip down south to see the family. Philip saw the Dr at the eye clinic yesterday. His retina has stuck down well but the pressure in his eye is higher than it should be so he's on more drops and goes back in a week for another check.

Aw Suzeanna it's like two steps forward and one back for Phil at the moment. I hope all gets sorted for him soon.

What do you know about your parents? There should be records available for them unless they never got married or had their births registered. I can't do anything now without an Ancestry subscription but next time they have a free access day or weekend I'd be glad to take a look for their births and/or marriage so you can send for their certificates which will take you onto the next step.

I'm taking a break now from my genie research as I've been at it all day. I have got even further back but will tell all when I have tied up some loose ends. It's looking very exciting!

I knew from family discussions that my grandfather had been a widower with a child when he married my gran. We were told his first wife died soon after the birth of the child who was brought up by an aunt.

But do you think I could find his first wife's death recorded. Considering he lied about his age until he got his OAP at age 65 , when the truth came out that he was actually 18 years older my gran, I was beginning to think he had been a bigamist!

He had grown up and worked in Edinburgh and met my gran when he moved to Fife so I looked in these two areas.

It took me weeks to track down the record of her death in the Loch Lomond area, where she had stayed with her family until she died.

My mother's side all stayed in the same town from generation to generation, so were easy to trace but my father;s side is a nightmare.

The families all had several children and , as was normal in these days, the children all had the same names as the boys were named after father or father's father, who had the same names anyway. Similarly the girls had their grandmother or their mother's name. So it gets very confusing as to who is who.

Again they all stayed in the same area often switching between addresses in the same street.

I will need to set aside a time to go through my notes and work it all out, but am dreading starting it.
