Hugs to Jazz and Yantan. I'm so sorry that you long awaited trip turned out to be not so good, you'll have to do it again and see everything you missed! I know what you mean about our security blokes..one turned my whole handbag out because he saw something he wasn't sure of on the xray thingy...it was a silver compact, but he didn't even ask me. When they looked at it in Greece, the guy there said "round thing? about like this?" making a circle with his hands. I said it's a compact, do you want me to get it out? He just smiled said no and waved me through.

Thought it was meant to be warmer today...I'm ruddy frreeezing! We've put in an application form for fostering for a rescue, see how Rosie goes with another dog. Not until after xmas though.

We were woken this morning by the phone ringing at 7:45 - Rob was up but dozing on the sofa I was still in bed in deep sleep needless to say I came awake in panic thinking something must be wrong with either Nick or the MIL - it was a sodding marketing call from Tesco advertising their Xmas delivery slots!!! I've just voiced my displeasure on their facebook page along with loads of others some of whom were called at 7:30 a.m. It wasn't even a call to say book now they are going fast - it was a "reminder" the slots will be available on the 26th!

Marion I got shouted at like that in Chicago after I kept setting the metal detector off - they actually made me take my bra off in full view of everyone in the queue as thats what was causing it, then they just flung it back at me when I went through without it all clear - I was livid! No idea why it set it off either it wasn't underwired and didn't set the alarms off at any of the other airports just that one.

The worst experience I had was on our honeymoon we were flying back from Ostend and the security woman singled me out - she was really really aggressive, she gave me a full pat down in front of everyone, her hands went absolutely everywhere groping and pinching I felt at the time she was touching me highly inappropriately but was too intimidated to argue about it, once she'd finished that she screamed at me to empty my handbag - which I did again in full view of everyone else - she then proceeded to open packs of sanitary towels and tampons and hold them up asking what they were etc. she only gave up on me when another of the security people intervened because the queue wasn't moving. It was a dreadful experience which left me quite shaken up.

Snow, I think some of these people are power mad, they think they can just say and do what they like because if you complain they can bundle you into another room and keep you there for hours. I had an argument with a miserable bag at East Midlands, she insisted I put my handbag into my flight bag (this at the first bit before you ever go through security.) I pointed out that my passport and boarding pass were in the hand bag so two steps after passing her, I'd be getting it out again but no, stupid woman wouldn't budge. I could have belted her one!

Yantan, your journey homes sounds dreadful but I am glad you enjoyed your trip and I am looking forward to seeing your photos

Is that usual, Sam, or a heatwave?

Its a few weeks earlier than normal and it is at the hotter end of the scale here , its the back end of the Monsoon season so the rain in the evenings is biblical ! it would literally knock you off your feet , it also means my non waterproof home often floods but I have a mop so thats all well !

I think the power must go to their heads when given these security positions at ports of entry. Poor you Snow and Suzeanna, you have all my sympathies.

Well I went to the medical centre this morning to see the diabetic nurse and she looked at my leg/ankle and sent me down to the minor injuries dept at our cottage hospital. They took X-rays and I then had a long wait for the on-call doctor to finish ward rounds. When she finally took a look I was told that she suspects a fracture of the ankle but wants me to see a specialist before attempting any treatment. I could have gone to the big hospital at Carlisle today or wait until the specialist does a clinic here on Friday so I chose to wait. Meanwhile I have to keep off the leg as much as possible and keep it elevated - I did that all day yesterday from instinct and plus it was the only way I could get comfortable. With luck the GP has mis-read the x ray and the specialist will tell me I'm good to go.

Oh no Yantan (hugs)...no wonder you struggled trying to walk Archie you loon!!!! Keep doing as you are told and hopefully friday brings positive news

I really don't understand why people get off on humiliating and belittling people...don't get me wrong, i am damn hard and cross me and you pay...and dearly too but i would never make someone feel bad...just because i could, something lacking in the persons life in my opinion

Oh dear HLGS....do you have one of those massive squeegees on a pole, we had one for doing the workshop floors and getting water out was super quick...mind you probably not great in a home environment!!

Jazz, it isn't a bug, it is my GPA...i am feeling exactly how i felt before i was diagnosed, i feel so sorry for the pups, i am managing to take them for a wee and feed and medicate them but the rest of the time i am slumped on the sofa, trying to play tug is sooooooo exhausting, think we will be back to scatter feeding and scent toy retrieval. For what it is worth, i think you did the right thing letting the dog walker go... if he had a good reason not to come like he was sick..his mum was sick etc then fine but to just not bother turning up and make excuses, that isn't fair.....shame there wasn't a pensioner who would like a dog but can't have one of their own...bet they would love to walk them, could you pop a notice up in your vets? we see those quite a lot in ours

Sorry you are feeling so bad Griff, I was reading yesterday that people are suffering with what seems very much like swine flu again, hope that's not what you've got.

Yantan, my husband slipped of a kerb a couple of years back and went over on his ankle. His whole foot and part of his calf was literally black and blue and when we went to A&E the doctor who saw it said no doubt that's broken, it wouldn't look like that if it wasn't. Well, an xray showed it wasn't, but the ligaments/tendons/whatever were badly torn and it took forever for it clear up. Even now that ankle is weak compared to the other one (which incidentally he did break, when he was in his twenties.) So, maybe a break isn't the worse it could be!

Griff, you posted again whilst I was typing my post. I saw something on my FB the other day which could be good if your dogs like playing with a ball? A gadget where the dogs are trained to drop a ball in the top, then after a moment it flings the ball out for them to chase. Something like the fly ball machines, I imagine.

Poor you, you must be so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired! Hopefully your consultant can help you x

The security people in Canada couldn't have been nicer.

Greeting us with warm welcomes and smiles, and the chap with the sniffer dog politely asked (asked not told or demanded) could we possibly lower our backpacks etc to the dogs level as he was only an ickle spaniel, needless to say he got a lot of fuss and attention and nobody minded the queue wasnt moving very much depite a 9 hour flight

The dog not the man i mean :lmaosmiley:

:GroupHug: :grouphug: Griff.

Hope you get sorted Marion and that security woman needs to sort her attitude out. My mum's knee flared up when we were away, so on the flight home, she had a knee support on. When she went through the scanner where you put your hands over your head, it highlighted her knee support and she got pulled to one side for further screening. The staff there were great, really respectful and polite.

When we were flying from JFK to Vegas, I accidentally left a bottle of water in my bag. I got pulled to one side and my bag searched. The woman there was great as well - I had Miles (my one eyed teddy) in my bag. We had a real laugh about why I was carrying him and what he was called. I was mortified that I forgot to take my water out!

Hope the beach hut doesn't flood too much Sam :flowers: I was thinking about coming back to Sri Lanka next November (got a good deal on one of my bucket list places for my birthday holiday), maybe I'll push it back a bit so it's not a monsoon

Got my dermatologist appointment this afternoon - it was supposed to be last week, but my appointment was cancelled last minute. Am hoping he's pleased with my progress - my skin still has some room for improvement, but it's loads better. The manky scaly bits that appeared when I forgot to put sunscreen on when I was in Vegas have cleared up too :)

good luck with the Dermatologist Gooster...will you be happy to stay on the treatment??

Suzeanna, you are right...soft tissue damage is worse than a break, my orthopaedics all told me that...RICE isn't it? resct ice, compression elevation..although my physio told me to do 15 minutes about with heat and cold

oooooo Kota would love a ball firer....wonder how much we could break in the first day lol

it must be frustrating for those security staff who are friendly and polite and do their jobs well to see people giving such a nasty impression

i did ask the dr about flu but she said no as my temp was 37 degrees....even though i am normally 34 or 35...gave the nurses quite a shock when i was in hospital lol... i am pretty sure it is the gpa..just need to hang on until friday
