griff
Yantan, i swear workmen now are lazy b*ggers, my dad worked for bt for years, always did a decent days graft, when he went self employed as a telecoms engineer he used to turn up, crack on and get home early... didn't want to have to return the following day or even worse work late Lol. You know my neighbour with the dodgy garage roof that is leaking into mine? well she had her windows done and boards done at the weekend, now it is illegal for them to work on sundays but they did... i'll get to that in a sec! they turned up at about 9am on saturday, eventually started doing something at about 10 am and finished at about 4pm, they fitted 2 windows and half a set of boards.... out of that time they spent 2 hours sat in the van! they came back sunday...started 8.50am and worked through until about 3pm after stopping for an hour and a half... they fitted 1 window and the other half of the boards. my dad went out and complained about the noise and he was told i had been told they were working...yes i assumed just saturday as who the hell books workmen to come and do a job on a sunday when all your neighbours work full time? she then got on the phone and started with the attitude with my mum...telling my mum who works for the council in the complaints bit so deal with noise nuisance daily that her workman told her there was no such law!! o.k then so why don't safestyle, anglican everest etc etc work sundays then? and we had already checked with the head of noise abatement, if the workmen had started at a proper time on saturday and not piddled about sitting in the van they needn't have come back on the sunday. She hasn't spoke to me since and i honestly don't want anything to do with her anymore, she is so damn selfish, she still hasn't got anyone to do the garage roof so i think in a couple of weeks we will be getting the council to serve an enforcement notice on her..... sorry rant over, it is just really bugging me now as it is chucking down with rain and i know the garage is going to be soaked...thank god my dad moved all my tools and tool boxes for me as they were getting soaked

Yantan
Well the workmen discovered that the drain just peters out into a soak away - which explains why when we still had the grass it was always so sodden, even after a dry spell. One of them explained that they had to get in touch with an engineer to see how they'd to proceed. Either re-build a superior soak away or install a pipe out into the street to join the main drain. I'm hoping it will be the latter but I doubt it as it will be a bigger job. They've put a temporary cover over the hole and barriers around that and the excavated earth so I expected that they were going to return another day. However they have spent the last couple of hours plus sitting in their van and it will be dark shortly so I am not sure what's going on. If they are waiting for the engineer's decision it's too late to start now but why couldn't they go to another job than just sit about? They've literally only done an hour's physical graft since getting here this morning.

Large shops have restricted hours on a Sunday but I am not aware of any other restriction to Sunday working.

Yantan
Nice Alex I don't know which law it is regarding tradesmen not being allowed to work on a Sunday but I've been aware of it for a while now. It was brought up by a neighbour when he was in dispute with some noisy workers renovating a house and they had to stop because it was Sunday. snow
For work/noise pertaining to building work there is a definite cut off as to when and which days builders/tradesmen can make noise that is audible beyond the site’s boundaries. These regulations are as follows: Monday to Friday: 8am-6pm Saturday: 9am-1pm No working on Sundays or Public Holidays. Pile driving and other specialist noise-making works may need stricter controls. In particular, pumps or generators that are audible beyond the site’s boundary should not be left running overnight. Your Council has legal powers under Section 60 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and Section 80 and 80A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to serve notices on builders/tradesmen in order to restrict their works where noise problems occur Builders/Tradesmen Working Sundays/Bank Holidays Builders working (making noise) on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday is a relative no-no. NoiseDemolition and construction companies must ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum by using the best practicable means to silence their operations. For operations that will be audible outside the site boundary, it is our experience that few complaints regarding early start of working will be made when the following working hours are adopted: Monday to Friday: 8am-6pm Saturday: 9am-1pm With no working on Sundays or Public Holidays. Pile driving and other specialist noisy operations may need more stringent controls to be applied. In particular, pumps or generators that can be heard at the site boundary should not be left running overnight. The Council has legal powers under Section 60 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and Section 80 and 80A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to serve notices on contractors in order to limit their operations where noise problems arise. https://www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/business/environmental_health_for_business/noise_advice_for_builders/ http://www.buildingsheriff.com/sunday-working-hours.html Actually thats made very interesting reading for me as I never knew that about Sundays. griff
Thankyou Snow, i think there are slight variations council to council with regards the hours but your info is better Lol.. less hours Jazz, would those ceramic coated pans be any good? i would imagine they would be quite light Yantan, i hope they do put a pipe in for you and i do agree they could have gone and got on with something else or even made themselves look busy sorting the van out or something...hopefully they will resolve things quickly for you
Yantan
I got a bargain on a pan set 2 or 3 years ago in the new year sales. They are stainless steel but reasonably light & very sturdy. The make is Le Vrai Gourmet - Debenhams stock them but you can also get them elsewhere. Anyway my set was about £150 at full price and I got them at the bargainous price of £28 delivered. I got lucky with that as it was a one day only sale but you can still find this make online with various discounts/sale prices. They are fab pans and I have no reason to complain at all.
