Sophie
Well done San, Glen and Molly Snow, I'd go with the scooter. Better to enjoy your holiday than to feel it was ruined because you either couldn't do the things you wanted or were in lots of pain while doing them. I've had a lovely weekend. We went to see Paul's sister and her husband. They're expecting their first baby in about 6 weeks, so she's looking rather pregnant! Was good to see them and just have some time relaxing. I'm looking forward to the long weekend - we're going to Paul's parents, where I will leave him to socialise while I go off to an agility show on Saturday and Sunday. Then on Monday there may or may not be important things happening - will find out later this week.
Happylittlegreensquirrel
Snow I would advise getting your back looked at ASAP My back issue is upper back ( 4th vertebrae ) and now it's very much under control due to a combination of seeing an osteopath , exercise to strengthen muscles either side of the weakness and yes weight loss. I have lost 2.5 stone since I first had a back problem and even the first 7 pounds made a difference but its a combination of the above plus a diagnoses that made the difference If you are having spasms and pain radiating up and down your leg it may be you have a trapped nerve. This happened to a visitor at Dogstar earlier this year and he collapsed in total agony , we rushed him to the doctors and it turned out his liver was enlarged due to a reaction to medication and it had pushed his spine out of alignment and trapped a nerve The thing with back pain is often the pain is not where the injury is , I suffered chest pain so severe I thought I was having a heart attack ( so dud the hospital till I had an ECG ) Get it checked out sooner rather than later , the longer its left the more damage can be caused as other muscles start to compensate From my experience backs don't get better on there own ( unless its a minor thing ) and what works for one person might not work for another I prefer osteopaths as its more gentle method of treatment but some people find chiropractors more helpful I also found untill I started seeing my osteopath flying was dreadful , now I see him 2-3 a year and flying is no bother If you are planning a long haul trip with a lot of walking I would suggest looking at it now Hope that helps Sam
Happylittlegreensquirrel
Another thing re backs is the treatment is so specific depending on what's causing the problem One if the things I had to do was swimming but I had to avoid breast stroke not because of my chest but because of effect on my lower back because of the way your legs move Instead I had to do front crawl , now with out an osteopath I would have thought gentle breast stoke would have been a sensible thing and fast crawl not As it is now I can do breast stroke but only proper breast strike ( head in and out with every stroke ) as I have to be careful with my neck position Without my osteopaths advice I would have got it all wrong and damaged my specific problem more I know back pain can really grind you down and I never thought mine would get better but honestly now it's 99% okay The guy I mentioned with the trap nerve got better even quicker as once they got his liver sorted ( medication and special diet for 2 weeks ) he has back to normal very quickly

gooster
Whit whoo Alex Nothing like being chatted up to give you a confidence boost I like it when blokes talk to me in the gym when I am all sweaty and urgh looking - I always think if they are chatting me up when I look like this, they probably won't recognise me when I look ok

snow
Thanks for that Sam it makes a lot of sense and I had made my mind up to maybe pop and see the Dr this week however I may put it off until after the holiday due to the fact that having just done the insurance and almost having a heart attack over how much they wanted just because I told them about my (under control and not really very high) blood pressure if I were to see a Dr then I'd have to declare it and that would probably send the premium through the roof. I am however starting a cut throat crash diet next week with the aim of dropping at least a stone if not a stone and a half before we go - I wouldn't normally diet that drastically but as I wont be doing it for long then it should be fine. When is the holiday for , could you get your insurance now and then see a doctor once you have the policy in place ? I often get policies for 3-6 months to cover periods when I might be travelling even before I have booked flights. Hopefully its something easy to fix , not all back problems are doom and gloom they just feel like that !
