Thinking healing and non-owner-turning-up-thoughts in abundance :flowers:

If the owner does turn up, will they be reported to the RSPCA so they can find out why he's in this state and monitor him if necessary (ie if he wasn't already being treated)?

Yes I think they will be looking to prosecute unless the owners can prove that he has been receiving treatment.

When they turned up at the other local kennels looking for him they explained that he looked funny but said it was a birth defect :(

He looks worse in the flesh that he does on his pictures. We weren't really touching him because we weren't sure exactly what he had, we were worried incase he had sarcoptic mange which can be passed on to humans, he looked so depressed with his little tail between his legs. As soon as the vet told us it wasn't sarcoptic we all gave him big cuddles and kisses and his little face lit up and his tail was wagging like mad :)

What shocked me as well is the heat coming off his little body, if you hold your hand a couple of inches from his skin you can feel the heat :(

I'll send him Reiki - and would be happy to put his photo and brief details on the Reiki lists too with permission. I would like to give him a gentle cuddle too but I can't, so someone please give him one for me.

Thanks Ange :flowers:

Look at the state of this poor boy who has just come in and he's only a baby :mecry:

FFS These people should be too ashamed to even try & claim him........ birth defect so doesn't need treatment...... ?

I noticed hot, red there seemed to be signs in his legs. Does he show any lethargy / poor appetite / maybe "breaking sores" & if so do you think it could be cellulitis? (immune system based I believe & may show up in a very young pup. Steroids to suppress the immune system & possibly antibiotics should resolve it if that is the case)

Thanks Ian, he doesn't appear to have any breaking sores. My vet is a skin specialist so hopefully we will get to the bottom of what is wrong, he did mention something which I have forgotten the name of but it was Ich something?? He has been given a steroid injection and also antibiotics so hopefully we will see some difference by next Wednesday :)

I looked at the poundie thread as soon as I joined the group. I was heartbroken to see so many lovely dogs in such dire circumstances. People are doing such a wonderful job getting them into Rescues and the hope of a new home. I love all dogs, but my breed is the GSD so I was really hoping that Spike would make it through and he has, he is apparently going to Blue Cross kennels.

I like most on here would like to help them all, but sometimes we have to do our own little bit and know it contributes to the whole. I do home checks for gsd rescue and fund raise when I can. If we spread the word it helps.

Another thing is that the council pounds often need bedding, papers etc so locally some of us can help in that way, just dropping off piles of newspapers. I know our pound in Sheffield is always asking for bedding and apparently collars and leads also. Some wonderful people on a site I belong to also put aside time to go in and clean the pound kennels out and share a kind word with the dogs in there. :mecry:

Spreading the word about rescues needing homes is also helpful, posters in vets etc. I am sure you know all this but as a newbie I just thought I would mention it in case it hasnt been brought up before.

Just reading back on this thread about whether seven days is enough for the owner to be found?? I wonder about this. Years ago I lost a gsd bitch, she escaped from kennels while we were on holiday. She was in a reputable kennel in the Derby area run by friends of ours. She actually bent the weld mesh gate and then went over the fencing that is bent over to prevent dogs climbing it.. :mecry:

We came home from holiday and scoured the area, our car had a sun roof and my son stood up and shouted through the sun roof in the hope she would hear us. We were lucky, she did and we kept getting reports of a gsd bitch running round the area. We put it on Radio Derby and the following day started again. Repeat of the previous day. Going home that night I was so sure we would never find her. We got a call late at night from the kennels saying someone had got her, she was exhausted and went to this couples house, they took her in and she was laying in front of the fire with their cats!!! The couple heard the advert on Radio Derby and phoned the kennels straight away

Cant believe how lucky we were, but that took 3 day of constant searching and without the radio I dont think we would have got her back.

Needless to say she was never kennelled again! :laughingsmiley:

Well, Wiggum's owners never turned up..........phew, and he is officially ours :elefant:

So, today he went to the vets for his eye op, neutering and skin biopsy's.

He was as good as gold in the car and was very friendly with the people waiting in the vets and played a drum solo with his tail on the chair. When Sarah appeared he flung himself at her for hugs and kisses and Ian the vet got the same treatment............look

He met a big beautiful German Shepherd:

All his ops are now done and poor little Wiggum is fine but bleeding :( He has 3 wounds where skin biopsy's have been taken, his neutering wound and his eye wound and each one is bleeding quite a lot. Sarah said it's just because his skin is so inflamed, poor little man. They are not going to bring him round properly from the anaesthetic just yet, they are allowing him to sleep it off................bless him.

Unfortunately he will have to wear a Buster Collar when he goes to Auntie Ally's and he can't have Malaseb baths because of his wounds so he will be going with Malaseb spray instead...........should be fun
