  1. Ah sorry Reiki Ang, got hold of the wrong end of the stick(not like me ) I thought you meant the yellow pages not the free ad papers, yes thats where they turn up, just wondering if a local data base would highlight those turning up time and time again with pups--- I can be a beligerant little so and so at times. Thanks all for comments and support here.
  2. Yes , thanks ReikiAng, I have the Dogs trust figures and they have been really helpful in replying to e mail I sent them this morning. Problem is that most of the dodgy breeders dont advertise do they. Thats a good point if I can get actual reports from someone who has got a dog from one of the BSB or a puppy farm and then had medical problems.
  3. Hello all I hope you can help me pretty urgently. Along with a group of others we have a meeting with the local rag to try and get a regular article in the paper perhaps with some sort of sponsership, unless they feel generous and do it for free. The object will be to try and bring to the attention of the general public just how bad the situation is for dogs, how many end up in the council pounds, how many manage to get to rescue, and the main reasons for these dogs going through this... ie backstreet breeding especially of the bull breeds because they see them as status symbols etc and then dump them or let them stray to be picked up by the dog catcher. If anyone can help with some facts and figures or any ideas of the best way to tackle these issues I would be very grateful. You can email me also at [email protected]. Many thanks in advance
  4. I missed this originally as I havent been a member too long, but my sympathies are with you, its bad enough seeing a pet killed by another dog without having all this hassle of the dog warden bending words. I cannot understand why the akita is being allowed to be exercised without a muzzle after these events, more to the point I cant understand how the owner can allow it to run free when she knows it is a danger to other dogs. Having a dog aggressive dog myself I only ever have him off the lead when I have scoured the horizons and know we are in a safe place where I can get him back on the lead quickly if another dog appears on the horizon. I can understand your anger and sorrow at the loss of the little yorkie who couldnt defend himself in those circumstance..
  5. Got this link from another site, everyone was most incensed about it, it must be a scam but surely this sort of stuff shouldnt even be allowed on the internet, any ideas who to complain to - its not this country so there may be problems.. hope this sort of ad doesnt get to be popular over here!
  6. WELL DONE, I was wondering the other day how he was going on and whether his weight had improved. Its so lovely he had fell on his feet, his ex owner actually did him a favour.
  7. I suppose it depends on the severity of the condition. GSD rescue have just taken a bitch with suspected EPI, she is bone thin. But she has a lovely nature so her outlook is good and she has a chance of being rehomed. Mack (see fundraising section) again is a dog with a medical condition, he came into Sheffield stray kennels with those bad ears due to neglect but he is a lovely nature.
  8. Thanks just found the thread myself. I am from Sheffield so thats what made my ears prick up.
  9. It was on Look North I think, didnt even catch the breed, but the dog had apparently gone for the little girls face.
  10. Just caught the tail end of the news last night and it was on about a dog attack on a little girl and the judge ruled that the dog was not dangerous and was under control. I just wondered if anyone knew anything more about this??
  11. I think some of the problem is that some uninformed owners with small breeds seem to think it amusing that their little dog will take on the world, then when the little dear starts to bite folk the problem has gone too far. If it was a bigger dog doing the snapping and snarling it would be given appropriate training at an earlier stage (either that or the owners would dump it in rescue for someone else to sort out )
  12. Thank you so much for the links and personal experiences. I have ordered the book and the workshop seems a really good plan if I have not got my hospital date for my op before then.. if not then I will find out details for a later one. I am sure it will help Josh no end.
  13. I was just wondering if anyone knows about Ttouch therapy, are there any practitioners in the Uk. I think it may help Josh with his dog aggression problems. I am also very interested in learning how to practice it, I am very hands on with animals, can normally find painful spots etc by running hands over the animals, funny I cant do healing on people but dogs n cats it just flows... I am away till Monday but will check back then hopefully someone will kindly point me in the right direction. Many thanks Avril
  14. Posting this here in case anyone is searching, it may be a clue to the whereabouts of a lost dog. Just as I was pulling out of the drive to go shopping a dog was hot footing up the road at a very brisk trotting pace, he was looking about him as if lost and he looked pretty footsore. I live on Sheffield Road Killamarsh He was a tan/dark cream with darker points on ears and nose type of Belgian Shepherd or German Shepherd cross, his body colour was mostly tan though as it is in the Belgian shepherds. He was quite small and lightly built too. I tried to talk to him but he was heading up the hill, I went back for titbits and a lead and followed him in the car, again I tried to entice him but he was off at speed again, a really fast trot. I tried to get parked a head of him and walked back but he had vanished, so he has either gone across the fields towards the Dale or crossed the road and gone towards Norwood Fisheries. If this is anyones dog and they are searching he was last seen top end of Killamarsh going up towards High Moor area, and either gone over the fields to the Dale or the Fisheries. The speed he was travelling he could have come a fair distance. If this is anyones dog and they are searching pm me and I will help you search for him.
  15. Makes me think of my silly neighbour who is, her words not mine 'a whizz with chemicals' sort of a veiled threat because she doesnt like cats. I had a dog poisoned once by a neighbour and the police and rspca were more or less useless, I had to rant and rave at the police man to go next door but he could only ask if she had seen anything suspicious. Neighbours - some are a real pain in the bum Hope you are not arrested by now
  16. Basil (RIP ) was a Pat dog. We visited an old persons home whenever we got time, normally once a month, it was a lovely experience, plus I could take him into work at nights, I worked with learning disabilities adults and they loved him plus he was extra security for me when doing night rounds! The process may have changed as this was some years ago, but the assessor did a temprement test similar to a show ring test, ie going over the dog, feeling around etc and some unexpected noises etc to see what Basils reaction was. He used a whistle if I remember rightly and put up an umberella at the side of him, I suppose it depends on the assessor. Regarding visits as long as your dog likes a lot of fuss but is calm and doesnt snatch titbits then it should work out well. I just hope if I ever end up in any sort of institution without animals that someone brings a dog to see me, I would die without daily snuffles and waggy tails. Hope you go on ok
  17. Just lit a candle for my old Shadow, only two burning at the moment. This is lovely.
  18. Lovely picture and great cats. Tinks drinks from the tap also, vet says its a wild throwback, where any standing water would be considered as being tainted and likely to cause stomach upsets, whereas running water of any kind is thought to be purer by the cat
  19. Hope you find something useful on there and give the benefit of your experiences
  20. I hope this will be of help to anyone with diagnosed or newly diagnosed dogs with EPI. Josh has just been diagnosed, my old dog also had the condition. However I have done a lot of research on the net and found things have changed such a lot since I was treating Shadow. Also I have found some really good information relating to the enzymes and the best way to give them to your dog, information I add that my vet did not tell me. So I have put all the information together on a free msn groups site. The address is http://uk.msnusers.com/EPIindogs/epiandmydogs.msnw I have left the site open so that anyone can browse the information on there, but if anyone want to join there will be the facility made available for your dogs story in the hope that others can benefit from the information and help their dog. You can also have your own dogs blog, the idea of this is that it is a good idea to record your dogs progress and food intake etc then if things go wrong you can backtrack and hopefully put things right. We are only human after all and forget things I also found out about a condition called SIBO that these dogs are prone to. My old dog must have suffered from this but my vet never diagnosed it, he used to get very noisy gut sounds followed by bouts of the dreaded runs and was really off, this often does not respond to upping the enzymes and needs antibiotics followed by probiotics. I feel really peed off that I didnt make Shadows life easier due to lack of information, I did not have the internet then and relied on vets for best advice. Hope this is of use to someone on the site and feel free to cross post if you have friends with dogs suffering from this complaint. Bless Avril
  21. I pick young nettle heads (about a month ago was best time) and liquidise them raw and then freeze them in ice cube trays. I can then defrost a few at a time for Josh to mix in with his food. He doesnt have them every day, but a few times a week. Nettle is good for the blood apparently. No recipe for soup though sorry
  22. I was so sorry to read how you are feeling, can only relate to an episode I had a few years ago with severe stress. I could not read a book and I am an avid reader, couldnt find my way round in a car, forgot how to put it in gear even. Words would not come to me at times, its a horrid horrid place to be. You feel you are really losing the plot and will never get better, but you do gradually and with lots of love and care to yourself. Are you on meds, because some make you feel worse regarding this brain fug thing. And the other thing I think is to get your doc to check you out properly for any other conditions that may be causing this, then at least you can stop thinking the worse (I know I used to think the worse) and just accept that some days you are completely a waste of space but other days you are a little better. Take care
  23. It made me feel quite ill to think of that little dog alone and in pain for so long. I really think I could do time for these wicked people, sorry rephrase- morons. If there is such a thing as karma they will be in for a really rough time and deserve every second

    Sciatica

My chiropracter says you can use tens as often as you like, it blocks the pain signals to the brain, I used it a lot with my shoulder but it doesnt work with my sciatica.
