April's Astonishing Allocution

You know what worries me about Bones Phebe? She is obviously is no rush to get back to the bosom of her family and if she is enjoying her freedom so much, when she is eventually caught/coaxed back onto a lead and the confines of a garden, she may well do her level best to get out again!

I expect she will, because it's what huskies do  She only escaped her secure garden because of some idiots who came to the back gate and didn't realise that if there is a high gate and then another gate beyond that, it isn't a good idea just to sail in without shutting either gate behind them. There will be big notices on those gates now. But Bones does want to come back to her people and her husky friends, she is getting closer each time, and what happens is that her instincts won't let her. This usually happens with dogs of any breed who have been out for a while. Our big concern is that she is due in season so we want her safely home before anything happens. She was bin-raiding round the store again early this evening. I'm off the search until Saturday, plenty of others helping, and Wispa has been stood down altogether and will only be needed if Bones moves somewhere else.

So today we just went for a walk in Poolsbrook country park and did some water vole spotting until we were attacked by a swan and had to leg it.

There was a thunderstorm in Worksop today with pea-sized hailstones.

Morning :tired:

I think the higher offer is the right one, because it's signed by my boss's boss, whereas the other one is signed by someone who works for another part of the company rolleyes.gif

Off to Altrincham today but must go back into the office afterwards (normally I'd work from home) because stupid useless feckwits in IT haven't solved my problem with the.

Starbuck the lab we trapped on the M1, now much improved after a few weeks' rehab and training at my friend's kennels, will be going to his new home today. It's local so we can keep in touch. He will have the chance to do obedience and agility if he likes

I got a decent amount of sleep last night but being stuck in the same position has meant my hips and shoulder are complaining loudly this morning. I can't feckin' win rolleyes.gif

Tis a glorious day here with sun and the most gorgeous blue sky ever biggrin.gif

Has anyone heard from Snow? I'd like to know if she's managing OK.

Emily got on really well at the hospital. She has a new consultant and he was lovely. Emily has to use eye drops at least five times a day! We're going back in July to see him again.

I had a good appointment with my doctor this morning, back in two weeks as long as I'm ok in the meantime. Mr Hazell asked me if that meant I wasn't mad anymore  I'm not this afternoon but I might be by tea time  One day at a time.

There was a thunderstorm in Worksop today with pea-sized hailstones.

We had that yesterday afternoon also. I was in the hen house at the time which has a corrugated roof. It was very noisy. The hens came running in and went running out straight away having decided being pelted with hailstones was better than the noise

Andy is having a sleepover in his Nana's tonight and tomorrow night. The house is very quiet and I've checked his room twice to see what he's up to

I'm here Marian :wavey: spent yesterday evening at the emergency vets with Nog - never rains but it pours eh? *sighs* he's done something to his bad leg, no idea what or how as he hasn't been off lead walkies in the past day or so nor have I heard or seen him trying to hurdle the fence or chase puddy tats in the garden, about the only thing stoopid he's done was go up onto his hind legs at the vets on Wednesday trying to get one of the other dogs to play with him, but this isn't all that unusual as he's frequently gone up on his hinds despite the weak leg. He had a stye on his eyelid so went to check it out better safe than sorry as it came up really quickly other than that he was fit as a fiddle and the ointment he got has pretty much cleared that up overnight. Then yesterday he started favouring his bad leg, this is also not unusual as he does occasionally go lame on that leg if he over does things or sleeps awkwardly on it, normal procedure is to up his previcox to a full dose and stick to onlead walks for a day or two, so we weren't concerned at first. Just after 6pm we noticed that despite a full dose of previcox he was refusing to extend the leg and was holding it up higher than usual so I rang his vet, surgery had finished for the night & he wasn't distressed so after a chat we arranged for him in to be seen this morning.

Unfortunately things deteriorated from there, he began to tuck the leg up under his belly - he hasn't done that since he broke it - he absolutely refused to extend it even when I was massaging it, he couldn't seem to get comfy in any position and started to lick at his surgical scars, thats when I noticed how swollen the lower leg was and hot to the touch, so I put a cold compress on it, but it continued to swell so much that the scars were really quite livid and clearly stretching wider, he was clearly in pain so I rang the M&S vetline to get authorisation to call the out of hours vet (we'd have called them anyway but that way they'll not be able to quibble over any big bills).

Out of hours is still covered by the vet hospital that did all Nogs original surgery and rehab so they had all his notes etc and told us to go straight there. It was one of the junior vets on call who didn't know Nog but the senior nurse remembered him and made a big fuss of him when we got there, vets not at all sure what he's done, his lymphnode is up so theres an infection of some kind but his temp was fine and he'd been eating & drinking. They gave him AB's and a painkilling shot and strapped the leg from toe to hip in a nice bright pink bandage to keep the swelling down, they were thinking of keeping him overnight but decided he'd be happier at home. She wants Hannes to see him this morning as he's Nogs original surgeon and an orthopedic specialist to get the leg Xrayed & see whats going on. Nogs been on tramadol overnight so is completely away with the fairies, the baby gate is back up and Rob spent the night on the airbed in the lounge with Nog in case we need to go back to taking turns sleeping with him again.

Needless to say I'm worried sick, hopefully this is nothing more than a wrench or twist and a few days restricted exercise and some additional pain relief and he'll be right as rain, but theres always the fear that the legs broken down or theres summat nasty brewing beneath the surface so I'll be on pins until we get the xray results.

I'm holding up Ok all things considered (maybe too well) but I can honestly say that I really could have done without this extra worry at this moment in time ...

Poor Nog. I hope they can get to the bottom of things quickly and get the young man sorted out. I'll be sending positive thoughts for him

Oh I can't do smilies either :(

The board looked huge when I first signed in and some things weren't in alignment. I decreased the size on my screen and once I got into this thread it all looks a lot better. I normally use Firefox but switch to Chrome to access here just because I have a better link saved to my bookmarks. I think it may be Chrome playing up so I may need to do a switcheroo. I appreciate the work Rick has put in the last day or so and he'd get a hug here if only I could get the emoticons to work!
