Sootys tumour used to bleed on occasion, which would make her very anaemic very quickly. I devised a concoction which we called 'gloop' (if you saw it, you'd know why ). It used to bring her red count up really quickly. It's not going to help long term if your vet is right about the diagnosis, but it may help him feel better in the short term.
