BillyMalc
Just spoken to the oncologist, and out of the 3 options Mal's got the middle one: there are lymphoma cells in his lymph gland in his neck but not in his flanks, which would indicate that at least it's local. The oncologist was quite keen to have this gland removed, and when I told him about Mal's latest infection in his upper jaw he was concerned that it might have spread - even more reason to remove the source of all evil ASAP. So next Tuesday, after work, I will race home to pick my precious man up and drop him off at Liverpool Hospital once again. Then the oncologist will operate as soon as possible the next morning, so that I will hopefully be able to pick him up again on Wednesday night. Hopefully during that week my new manager will be a bit lenient with me with regards to working hours. While I know I have said that I didn't want Mal to undergo any more surgery, it seems that this lymph gland might be the source of a whole lot of trouble in the near future (I'm wondering if his coughing might be related too), and removal might just mean - although not guaranteed - that Mal will be free of cancer at least for a while, and then we'll "just" have the leishmaniasis to deal with - which is not half as bad. I hope that my concern for Mal's quality of life has let me decide to go ahead with the op (rather than me not being able to part with him just yet), but I feel that he's still got so much life in him that it wouldn't be fair to give it the very best shot. Like I said, I don't know if I'm right, and I've go to trust the oncologist on this one. Won't know till after next week Wednesday night whether I've done right by him. I'm in bits .... Jacobean
The Oncologist wouldn't recommend an op if he didn't think Mal would have a good quality of life afterwards. You've made the right decision. Whatever the outcome. You're trying your best to help the lovely lad and by the sounds of it he's not ready to give up the fight either. Will continue to think of him. Ian
I don't know whether you've discussed the coughing with your specialist yet Billy but if not I would do so as soon as possible. It may be nothing but what I was gently trying to say to you in your other thread is that it could also be a bad sign in terms of the cancer spreading. I hope the cough is caused by something else but if not you may well need the specialists advice on it. Best of luck

Best of luck To be honest, I don't even know if I have told him, but I'm pretty sure I have - case of being on the ball when speaking to oncologist and going to pieces afters However, as far as I know next Tuesday night is the soonest that they can admit Mal, so although I will be mentioning it again, I doubt it that this will speed up his admission - strangely enough the hospital wasn't just built for Mal, even though I, and every owner of a sick animal, would like to think so.
