The Horse Update / Pic Thread

I took Kai out for a hack this morning. She was a star during her lesson yesterday, which makes a change especially as it so so windy. So she decided she had better make up for this on her hack! She planted all 4 feet and wouldn't move, which is one of her old tricks she hasn't done in a while, once I got her going again, she came to a block of flats which had just had scafolding put up on them, she had a hissy fit at that. Then came to a bus, while she is tap dancing in the middle of the road. The driver had to turn the engine off for us to get past. Then she way some cyclists wearing flourescent gear in the distance and stood bolt upright across the road snorting. Refused to go past a trailer with junk on the back of it. She has been going past the same trailer for the past 2 years no problem, but today there was definatly a tiger hiding round the other side! :)

I turned her for home and she started jumping up and down in the middle of the road and cantering on the spot. She then went up the wrong side of the road getting more and more stroppy, she managed to stop 2 more cars. We're really lucky the drivers are so good here, although I dont think many people would brave going past a bum the size of Kai's when its going sideways up the road!! We did make it home in once peace. Ah the joy of baby horses! Having said that she not being ridden anywhere near as much as she is used to with the dark nights and my change of hours at work and has only hacked out once this year and that was with other horses. Was really pleased with her though because she didn't try to rear. Whenever she gets stressed or doesn't want to do something she is very quick to rear so I was very proud of her for that. So maybe all the work is paying off.

i actually have no idea a bit of a heinz 57 i think....will ask when im next in on weds but that is what i suspect. He obviously should has feathers and mane but hes clipped in summer as it gets hot pulling the carriage - not that bear ever puts much effort into anything!!!! he looks nice with feathers but in fact looks v.scruffy with a mane -

Ah the joys of trotting without stirrups!!!! Arthur looks very cute. Kai loves having discussions in her lessons too!

Kai does like to keep me on my toes. Can't wait till its light later and I can start riding through the week. Minski has been off for the winter as I can't manage riding both of them, so she'll not be impressed in a couple of months when she will be back being ridden. She's still getting plenty of exercise charging round the field like a loon.

George looks like he's been having lots of fun! Ah the joys of mud, at least it will be good for his complexion, first mud baths next he'll be off for a facial. :)

So many posts to reply to!!

Kai - sounds a bit of a handful - but it also sounds like you have the measure of her and that you both get on well together! I would need rescue Remedy by the bucket load!!

Bear is gorgeous - he is a very similar build to a friend's horse - he is a belgian draught.

Arthur looks gorgeous too - what a lovely kind face - glad that you are enjoying your lessons :)

Lovely pic of Geroge - it was sunny here today too - but the wind was biting and our fields do not look in as agood condition as yours!

Quick piccie of Rolo today - post hair cut!!

He is much better off clipped - normally when we hack he comes back a sweaty mess - he was just right when we got back today - even if it did make for a "go faster" start to our ride!

How was he out hacking this weekend?

He was actually not too bad - my back was really playing up yesterday so he did not get ridden and he was only lunged once during the week. He was a bit naughty when I first got on, which I interpreted at the time as an attempt at napping (upon reflection, it was not, but I am still suffering the mental after effects of my accident earlier in the year, and am still a bit anxious when I first get on  ) I loathe napping - it unsettles me completely (thanks to an old pony that was one of the worst nappers that I have ever come accross and made me want to give up riding - which I would have done, if Nemo had not come along at exactly the right time :) ) As a consequence I was much more uptight than usual at the start of our ride - it was his first hack after being clipped - he picked up that I was tense and we had a bit of a speedy start! I settled down after about 1/2 mile and he settled down not too long after that.

Confidence is such a delicate thing isn't it? I am at the 2 steps forwrd 3 steps back stage at the moment I think. The slightest thing unsettles me - some things more than others. We will get there tho! :)
