  1. Just a quick one form me!! Love the fill foal! Molly is looking fab - fingers crossed that fate will work it all out for you! Poor Feniks - Nemo once had an abscess that took 3 months to go away! I bought Rolo from a dealer - they seemed reasonably straight - and, had not developed in to such a huge athletic boy, we would probably still be perfectly happy together! Find out more about Summer!
  2. Hello All Sorry - not visited for ages Main reason is that I have made a very sad decision - I am going to sell Rolo - and I mean it this time! I am heartbroken, but we are too alike - he needs a confident rider and I need a confident horse! I just couldn't face telling anyone. Here is our latest video, if you are interested! Good news about Wanda! Nemo had quite a severe pollen allergy one Summer - it was manageable, but he had to be on steroids when it was really bad - which triggered very mild laminitis! After that I was ble to control it with a supplement from Global Herbs and Ventapulmin
  3. Ooh - she could be just perfect for us - off to look at your website
  4. Saw the article in the paper - odd horse!!
  5. We had practised nothing!!! I showed him a tarp in the Summer, but he has not seen one since He has never seen flags before so I was anticipating a reaction, but I showed it to him as I picked it up and he took it in his stride, bless him If only he was that relaxed when ridden! Looking forward to the video Gooster
  6. Don't worry - it has nothing to do with pigs! It is like baby oil. Think it is some sort of by-product from the petro-chemical industry or the like. (Sorry - just seen that Jules had already said this !) Glad Duke is on the mend - sorry that Blue is suffering a bit at the mo too Just thought I would post a few snaps of Rolo's first ever competition!! That may be over-egging the pudding slightly! We had our first ever fun day at the yard on Saturday part of which was handy pony - I had said I would do it with Rolo, but only in hand. Unfortunatley my back went lon Saturday morning, so we could only go at a snail's pace, but I was so proud of him - he balked at nothing, and was the only one to not react to the tarp. He was the greenest and the youngest, but my boy did well! We came last, but who cares!! (He got a consolation rosette!) Starting off (forgive the teacosy hat - it was perishing!) Bending: Taking the tarp in our stride: Emerging from the labyrinth: He had his fleece on as it was soooo cold!
  7. You and Loki look amazing Clare (Sorry, flying visit!)

    Mud Fever

Echo Lesley's comments. Nemo got terrible mud fever his first winter down here - he had to be put on box rest for a whole week! I sorted it using Sportabac turnout socks - worked a treat, which just goes to reiterate what Clare said - different things work for different horses. I am a huge fan of pig oil and sulphur - I started to use it on Rolo about a year ago on the recommendation of my farrier. I used it to sort out Rolo's issues with feather mites and the scabby knees that heavily feathred types are used to. It worked a treat - and he did not get a trace of mud fever all last Winter. I applied it once a month all over last winter and the Summer, but he has got scabby knees again so have just upped it to once a fortnight. It is stinky stuff - everything smells of sulphur, but his feathers are lovely and silky and go back to white within a few days. I have always bought it from Matthew Burks - I think that is who is now sellin git on Ebay - really nice chap and very helpful. One word of warnign - someone on EE put it on h4r horse;s legs and she had an allergic reaction. Do a patch test first!!! Hope you get something sorted soon
  9. Glad that Easta is doing OK. Sounds like Newt is coming along very nicely Last weekend was also Rolo's 2nd anniversary Can't believe I have had him 2 years, but any excuse to post 2 then and now pics! Then: Now: Can't remember if I posted this one at the time - he had been doing trotting poles when he decided to pop one!! Pic is terrible quality as I was videoing it - so this is a still taken of the TV How Mel stayed on I will never know. Makes me laugh every time I see it! Apologies if I have posted before
  10. Oh Clare. Poor Loki I will ask my farrier if he has any suggestions - he is out on Saturday. I think stick ons are a bit tricky to apply - everything has to be spotless etc. When my friend's horse had stick ons applied, he had to be sedated too. I hacked Rolo out on Saturday! First time since January! On a lead rope!!! Instructor was leading and teaching me how to sit to him at the same time. I actually felt what it was like to sit properly on him - could not maintain it for long as I was a bit tense and my hips were begging for mercy, but I have never sat that deep on anything before - felt very stable, and at least I know what I am striving for. We even had a little trot - she made me sit first!! I hate sitting to his trot - mainly because his movement is huge, but she did let me rise eventually!! Tiny, baby steps, but for the first time in ages, I think there may be hope!
  11. Just popping in briefly!! Pablo is absolutely stunning - despite the dodgy clip! So sorry about Molly Sarah - hopefully someone nice and sympathetic will buy her - it must be heartbreaking - it was one of my huge concerns when I was selling Rolo. Wanda and Loki sound like they are going great guns (can't see videos at work Clare - I will cast my expert saddle fitting eye over it when I get home ) Not a lot to report from us - Rolo continues to go well for Mel, I have not ridden him since I lost dear old Nemo, as I have not had the heart to. But, I had a lesson on my friend's huge mare (17hh!) on Satruday - at the same time that Rolo was beign schooled - and I survived!! Still can't walk straight, but I think I enjoyed it! We have had one set back - Rolo's behaviour on the lunge has degenerated. We have decided to stop trying to lunge him - it is getting counterproductive as all we are doing is reinforcing a bad behaviour. He really upset himself last week - to the point that he was visibly tense when he was led in to the school this Saturday. He had a very low key schooling session tho - with his old Mum following him everywhere on Big Bertha , so there was no pressure on him - think we may have to have easy schooling sessions for the next few weeks - it takes him ages to get over any upsets, bless him.
  12. You are all very kind - he was a quirky boy, but you just had to admire him I have been so touched by messages and texts from people that never even met thim. Each has brought a lump to my throat. And he will be very chuffed to see so many people thinking of him I always said that when he chose to depart this world he would do it in the most awkward place imagineable and he proved me right The only good thing is that this all happened before his beloved Bonnie was taken away, so at least he hadn't gone through that trauma. She left about an hour later - fate? I have not been round to their field today as it will look so empty. I would like to say that Nemo wouldn't want all this attention - but he would have loved it!! Thank again everyone - very much appreciated. So sorry about Benitos Freya
  13. Have some very sad news I am afraid. My beloved old Nemo got himself in a bit of a pickle this morning, and the kindest way out of it for him was the hardest way out of it for me. Think he may have had a fit, but he was found cast in a ditch - fortunately he had not been there long and I was already on my way up when I got the phone call. I knew as soon as I looked at him that my Nemo had gone - the Nemo that was lying there was very calm and ready to go - he had given up. He was still stuffing his face with hay, mind you! There were 3 vets there (YO's husband, daughter and my vet) and they all reassured me that I was doing the right thing. But it hurts. He was the most glorious, arrogant horse he loved to strut his stuff and how he and I worked as a partnership, I will never know - but it did. Run free my beautiful arab stallion (I know he wasn't, but he liked to think he was ) You have left a gap that will never, ever be filled - you were truly unique.
