August's Audacious Ambles

Hounds, maybe your sister in law has got used to someone else doing everything for her all her life, and sees no reason to change now? Or maybe she's one of those people who's afraid of getting it wrong, and rather than risk everyone saying "what the heck did you book this place for, it's awful?" would rather pass the buck to you?

I phoned, got a very nice nurse who promised to phone me back when she'd spoken to the consultant and did within ten minutes. They dont think it should be the tablets causing it, but do think I should go and see my GP asap if it continues. I "forgot" to take the tablet last night and had a decent night's sleep with no pain, so if I take this morning's one and it comes back, I think I'll phone again and say I know you think it isn't..but I think it is. The only thing I could find that could explain it, other than the tablets, (trawling Google medical bits) would be angina, but my pulse was steady so I don't think it would be that.

Jazz...run that by me again? cleaning ovens? oh..erm....lived here nine years and I've cleaned the hob daily, wiped the oven door but cleaned the oven.........? seems to have slipped my mind :D

Marge, rant away, it feels good and helps keep what sanity we have left! If she doesn't decide, just book one that you like! You can't please everyone, but you can please yourself and then at least one person is happy!!

Thanks guys for your comments, I love your analogy Griff, Suzeanne no we pay for costumes as well! It seems to be a bit of a mugs game really. I wouldn't mind paying a reduced amount for some shows to cover the cost of the hall or for a charity, but not when someone is making a profit from me! ...and the graduation is in a local theatre...

We, Ben and I, went to see the cycling yesterday in the velodrome. I got tickets to it on Monday evening, we were so excited!!! I love track cycling and being there for that was fab. It was one of the sessions that both of us requested tickets for originally and didn't get which was even better-er! I am feeling it today as quite tired, but it's odd as all I could think of yesterday when we were leaving the park is that the Olympics were over, they of course aren't but we have been so focussd on the cycling ever day for the last week it kinda feels like it. I am sure we'll watch some more but I don't know what else is on. Bad Mary!!

Marge, your message threw me when you said Mary was going to do something, it took me a moment to realise it wasn't me who had agreed!!

Jazz, can you come and clean my cooker please? We've been here 10 years I think...and it REALLY needs a clean :-)

Thinking of Alex today.

Marge your Sis in law sounds a right twonk.

I'm thinking of shelling out and getting my oven professionally cleaned. It seems to be the in thing at the moment and there are lots of oven cleaning firms around. For about 40 quid they restore your oven to showroom sparkliness or so I have been lead to believe. Any one here had theirs done?

I can't believe how well we are doing in the Limpicks. When you think that in Atlanta in 1996 we won only ONE gold Beijing and London are amazing come-backs. Well done Team GB!

Did you see, the Daily Express made a major mistake? Photos on the front page of various gold medal winners, but they put a picture of the Netherlands dressage team, instead of GB! idiots!

I was annoyed reading an article about the two girls in our dressage team, and the differences in their backgrounds. They said that one of them was schooled and loaned a horse by a particular man..can't remember his name...and said that he's gay. What the hell does that have to do with anything? does one's sexuality have to come up in EVERYTHING these days? personally I don't care if he's bonking a man, a woman, a vacuum cleaner or his horse! well..maybe not the horse, it may not be consenting....

It's just been on the news on the radio Suzeanna and apparently the Daily Mirror printed the same picture. What a load of twonks!

Yes, what the hell has anyone's sexuality to do with their ownership of a horse - or anything else come to that! To me it's the same as saying something like "the blue eyed owner of the horse" - it's totally irrelevant!

Suzeanna, they were talking about Carl Hester who was in the dressage team, one of the girls worked for him think it was Charlotte and the horse was supposed to be for Carl to compete on when he was old enough but the horse now has such a bond with Charlotte and does so well that its her that is competing on him instead. I do agree though it doesnt matter if Carl is gay , its nothing to do with anyone else.

Is it any different to discussing their backgrounds of money or no money? It's a sport where they are trying to highlight that you can be rich or poor. In a similar way as he is proud and open of being Gay maybe it will highlight that you can be gay or straight to be in the Olympics too? I don't know about bi-sexual though as I don't think we have any :D (this last bit is tongue in cheek and not meant offensively) but if he can be seen to be a role model maybe he will inspire others. x

RMF : I've not had a working phone line for at least six months. I can't get a response from Virgin to come and sort it, so I have just signed up to BT broadband and phone. They have an offer on at the moment - £25 Sainsburys voucher, free broadband for the first six months (£13 thereafter) and if I do it through the works rewards website I also get £75 back. Be rude not to really. I'm about to ring VIrgin to tell them to shove it up their jacksy.

Well, then I hope it goes well tomorrow Alex. :-) Enjoy today getting your own stuff sorted out instead!

How are the recruitment agencies going? They are fun aren't they ;-) As a contractor I get to deal with them all to regularly, as with many things I preferred it when there weren't so many options of them!! I know options is good, but it can be so hard to sieve through them.

Is your role something that contractors could go in to, or as maternity cover if you can't find anything you really want? It is a nice feeling to walk out of one company on redundancy and into another quite quickly, but not necessary!

Recruitment agencies are not giving me much at the moment. They started off positively, lots of jobs, yada yada but not even had one interview yet :( Am sh*tting myself about being out of work. Options would be good at this stage. There are some interim roles out there, but you have to go in as a limited company so I'd have to go through that faff. Would prefer a perm job!

Oh Alex, it's easy to set up a LTD, the only thing is completing the stuff for Companies House, which you can either pay a nice accountant, I can recommend a friend (though I don't use her I know lots who do) she specialises in contracting staff and their particular needs or maybe ask Michelle for some advise. I pay a nice accountant to do that part, the reason I've never changed is she works well with my timings and she is a friend of my Mom's. Don't rule it out if it gives you the options, I don't regret going contracting and know I can always go back to permanent work if I choose to. In times when companies can be wary of taking on permanent staff they will often take on contractors as flexible employment.

Thanks murtle :flowers:

I had a call about a new role in Warrington from an agency last night. I subsequently found a LinkedIn profile for a manager there and obviously he saw that I had looked at his profile and sent me a message about the job as well. I told him I'd been made aware of the role via the agency but gave him my mobile in case he wanted to have a chat about it. Fingers crossed cos it looks good and the salary is in the right ball park. Not getting my hopes up though, I've had enough disappointments in the short time I've been looking.
