OH has been on the phone to his Mum for nearly an hour - she's in her mid 70's, lives on her own since her Mum died in nasty circumstances about 6 years ago. She has had a looooong disagreement with her neighbour, which ended up going to court about 12 years ago. The court found against her (OH's Mum) and to pay the court costs, a charge was put on her house. Fast forward to last year, when she received a letter addressed to her neighbour, but at MIL's house number, saying the house @ MIL's house number was now paid for and belonged to Mrs X.

MIL has recently found some paperwork from the court dated 2000 and is convinced that something is going on that she doesn't know about and that Mrs X actually owns her house.......

Surely if that was the case, they would have evicted your MIL by now? It all sounds very strange! Can she/your OH not consult whichever solicitor was involved in the original case to find out what's going on?

There was an article in the paper the other day about how many of these toy breeds are being chucked out now the novelty has worn off, and a photo of a little chi at Shoreham Dogs Trust kennels.

Well that was the point OH was trying to make, it wasn't helped by the fact that she'd already taken it to the CAB who told her they didn't really understand what it was all about, but she should 'get it sorted' - none of them noticed the letter was 11 years old!

She doesn't even live close by, so it's not just a case of popping round there, it's an hour and a half drive.

Who was the letter from?

Could it not be that Mrs X was name on the paper work because of the charge and the letter had her name on it by mistake.

Looks like somebody needs to go through the paper work and establish the facts.
