A Very Down Dog

Hoping they find what the matter is very soon and can treat him. It's very worrying when you don't know what's wrong. :GroupHug: Specialists are fab and I'm another fan of Liverpool animal hospital. They're so caring to the animals too. I put a dog through a major op at 13 because she had amazing fighting spirit and was fantastic afterwards but each dog is individual and you know your own best. :GroupHug:

Sorry you didn't get any definite answers yesterday, waiting for tests and not knowing what's wrong is horrible Group_Hug_Emoticon.gif

Still sending good thoughts for Murf, I hope you get some positive results very soon Group_Hug_Emoticon.gif

Do you think I would be being impatient if I asked my vet if there is anything we can try whilst waiting for the results? The specialist mentioned if the results came back as something or other then he would need vitamin B12, surely that wouldn't do any harm even if it didn't turn out to be the course of treatment?

The thought of having to leave him in this condition over the weekend is making me sick, he wouldn't come out from under the bed this morning, when OH got him out he had to carry him down the road to his favourite woods for him to do his business as he doesn't go in the garden, he didn't want his breakfast and went back under the bed, I got home an hour ago and he still hasn't come out.

I understand the vets saying he isn't in danger as all his vital signs are okay, but yesterday the specialist said the anemia was slight, and then when I asked about Murf's extreme behaviour he said it would be down to the anemia

Suppose I just have to hope they get the results back tomorrow :(

I would definitely ask the vet what could be tried in the meanwhile, if it were me. After all, you are the one that's seeing this extreme behaviour, so you might have a better idea of how urgent it is than a vet who's only seen him for 20 mins.

Poor Murph it sounds awful for him and you must be devastated seeing him so miserable. mecry.gif

It is the hardest thing waiting isn't it? :GroupHug: Max was in the vets for about a week if I recall and they didn't give him any medication during that time as they were carrying out zillions of tests. I understand your impatience but I would imagine there is a reason why the vet isn't starting to give medication (you never know, if it isn't the thing that requires B12, then giving him B12 might skew the results of further tests or mask something else ).

Did you speak to the vet about the possibility of a blood transfusion once the tests are done? :flowers:

More good thoughts for Murf :GroupHug:

I think everyone i have heard of that has gone to liverpool uni hospital

has sung their praises.

Hope the results of the bone marrow come back with some good (treatable) news.

Speak to your vet, no reason why yuou cant be trying things, they wont mask

anything as the test have been done now

No harm asking though. Even if the answer is 'no because...' I reckon it's easier if you ask piles of questions so you can understand exactly what is going on than to hang about wondering and worrying that something has been missed or delayed but not liking to make a fuss. Every so often a vet WILL miss something or not get round to something quickly, after all, they are human like the rest of us.

I spoke to my vet this morning, he was lovely as usual and hadn't had any feedback from the specialist but couldn't see any reason why he couldn't have a B12 injection. He said to come in after surgery tonight and in the meantime he is going to get in contact with the specialist. I got a call from his receptionist a little later to say he had spoken to the specialist and had a better understanding of what was going on and to still come in tonight. So not sure if that means he is still going to do the injection or not, but perhaps we will get some answers tonight.

When Murf was examined yesterday a slight heart murmour was found, I couldn't remember if my vet had mentioned this before, as having a horse who had one without issue it probably wouldn't be something I would remember, but my vet said he didn't have a heart murmour last week when he checked him

We're back, I think the appointment was more to prepare us more than anything else :mecry:

He's had the B12 injection but my vet doesn't feel its going to make much difference to him, but will do no harm.

He has spoken to the specialist and reading between the lines he thinks they are expecting the tests to confirm he has bone marrow cancer.

The results are more likely to be Monday than tomorrow and the best we can do now is to try and keep him comfortable and quiet until we get the results, but he will be honest with us in the meantime if he believes Murf is suffering and should be PTS. Of course I have thought about it but to hear him speak those words felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach :mecry:

He is my first dog and has been my constant buddy for thirteen years, I really don't know how to contemplate not having him in my life :mecry:

Huge :GroupHug: :GroupHug: :GroupHug: for you guys. I have just recently gone through it with Keira and it is the worst feeling in the world. :mecry: :mecry: You know Murph though and the love you have for him will help you make the decisions that are the best for him-whatever they may be.
