Back down to 24% :(

My vet is going to speak to the specialist and one of them will give me a call to discuss what happens now, apparently what he has is incredibly rare form of auto-immune disease and very hard to treat, but he said they haven't used all options open to them yet so fingers crossed we can get him back on track, before his levels drop too low.

Good news is that his heart sounded back to normal :) they think it was a reaction to the transfusion.

Thanks all :flowers:

We are playing the waiting game again, have to say its really not much fun the first time but doesn't get any easier the more we do it

I had to take the poor boy back to the vet last night for them to take more blood to send off so they would get the results today. The specialist wanted to see how they compared to the bloods taken before the transfusion.

There is another drug they can try its the only other option and has a 50/50 success rate, I didn't catch the name but its very strong and not something she wants to use unless she really has too (I wonder if she doesn't trust the result my vet got yesterday  )

Its a drug they use against cancer and it can damage the bone marrow and cause sickness, he could have tablets but she would prefer him to have it intravenously fortnightly.

Lets hope my vets messed up and the bloods come back fine (yes I have reached the past delirious stage :err: )

The vets weren't happy with the results of the blood tests so have decided to try the other treatment available, which turns out to be an injection of a chemo drug, he is going in today and hopefully will be able to come home tonight.

I really hope I am doing the right thing, I want to give him the chance and this is the last thing that can be tried. My mum thinks I am unfair putting him through this, but its a sensitive subject as my dad is undergoing intensive chemo and has been very poorly. Murf will be getting a much reduced dose than if it was being used to treat cancer, and it is a one off injection and then in for the day being monitored, but there is always the risk he will react badly to it.

I could either put him to sleep now, or give him this chance in the knowledge that it may make him better but if he does react then I have made his last days even worse :mecry:

Any spare thoughts for my boy today would be much appreciated :flowers:

loads and loads of good thoughts for you and for Murf today :GroupHug: :GroupHug:

Don't be to hard on yourself, you are doing what you think is best, second guessing

yourself will do you know good whatsover.

You are giving Murf every chance to fight back, isn't that what we would all want

from our own animals

Clare, when I was in bits over Tess you said to me that I was right to give her every chance - you were absolutely right about that and for what it's worth, I think you are doing the right thing for Murf too.

Sending you and Murf many positive thoughts, and a gigantic :GroupHug:

Thank you :GroupHug:

Just spoken to his vet, he has had the drug with no reaction, and has tucked into a bit of lunch which has stayed down so far. He is now 22% so just have to hope that the drug works before his levels get critical.

Off to collect him at 3.30pm :)
