melp never fails to be amused with my lancashire dialect and sayings i find them normal she finds them hilarious so what do you say and what do they mean

some of mine are

 

 

i thought you were dead in a ditch (where have you been )

as mad as toast (we buy perfectly good bread and then burn it to make toast how mad is that)

sat here like piffy on a rock bun (left out or forgotten) feck knows who piffy is :unsure: but ive always said it

Put Th'wood in'th'ole (shut the door)

looks like a bulldog chewin a wasp (sour faced)

 

 

what are yours and what do they mean

I'm stood here like one of Lewis's - meaning have been forgotten

 

 

But who was/is Lewis?

 

"It's black owwer Bills Movvers" is one I've always said but never knew until tonight who Bill was. It means there are dark clouds on the horizon so will probably rain later.

 

"it/they mek yer tabs laff" refers to anything fizzy/sour, like gooseberries, sherbert etc. Makes your ears tingle.

 

"It fair claps rahnd yer tabs duntit" it's cold/windy
