griff
Snow, i know your mechanic has said it will cost more to put right than the car is worth but.... is that with him doing the work??? depending on the work that needs doing could you reduce the cost of the bill by doing some of the work yourself? Nah its mainly labour rather than parts stuff we can't do ourselves, lots and lots of welding underneath, new brake pipes as they are too corroded to strip, new brake pads and discs, suspension both sides needs to be "dropped in" - whatever that means - throw in a new handbrake cable and pulley thingy ( I know I broke that cos I felt it go when I did it) some welding to the exhaust (should be repairable rather than need replacing) and then the wheel arch has to be cut back, a bit welded on and finished off as the rust has eaten right through and is hazardous, throw in 4 new tyres some bulbs etc and it all starts to add up. It's a 1997 escort estate with 109k on the clock - even with the work done shes only worth about £500 so it doesnt make sense to spend the money. merledogs
My Laguna I got rid of last year had 150k on the clock, 1999 model, and didn't have a single scrap of rust on it. for anyone else who needs one. I have picked a load of apples off my tree and given them to next door neighbour - might as well get some use out of them as the birds and worms are having a field day at the moment. I then had a play with the mutts in the garden and wished I hadn't, it's far too warm.
purple_mog
hugs to those that need them Am going home soon to return lots of calls about dog training, snuggle the puppies and drink a big mug of tea - not so much random as mindless mundane facts! Happylittlegreensquirrel
HLGS thanks for asking about my mum. She seems better but the doc hasn't a clue what it was. Really pleased to hear Mummy Owl is better Had another very good days work experience at the Vets and watched a very interesting orthopaedic surgery on a cat with a broken leg

snow
I should keep my big mouth shut ... huuby came home set on the idea of the escort or if he didn't like the rust then a scenic I'd spotted ... that is until I opened my big mouth and said that I'd seen a couple of ford focus estates around the £1500 range .... surprisingly he said no to going to see the Alpha Romeo Sport Wagon I found - oh how I loved our old sport wagon but having another Alpha right now would be financial suicide and I know it ...but I want oneeeeeee Me too Me three

Spins4me
My daughter is discovering just how difficult life is with three little uns, one aged four, one 20 months old and and another aged one month. She's still recovering from a C section and her husband is back at work. We (me and OH) have had a hell of a job to persuade her that we really don't mind helping out. I'm not sure she believes us! They've all been here today and left us both exhausted. I'm just starting chocolate therapy.
louisebt
I too am glad mummy owl is getting better My dad update He came out of theatre at 7, all we know at the moment is they were taking him, to recovery and they hope he will be back on the ward about 9, thats a good sign right?.... I got things slightly wrong, its the 7th, 8th and 9th vertebre is was attached to, they have removed it (well they must have) and fitted a cage round this part of the spine as its now obviously weakened a far bit... So now we wait for him to come round and see what the surgeons say, i know he had 2 and a doctor, along with a team in with him for the op, i have lots of faith in this hospital, not like our local hellhole.... i dont know how long test results usually take from the alien its self, i just hope its quick and we can find out what we're dealing with... I just want my dad back As for the lovely person i live with, i am stuck at the moment, the only soild transport mums got to visit dad (mum doesnt drive) is my uncle, my uncle has been poorly and is awaiting test results and it may well be he has testicular c (not saying that word), mum doesnt drive and for her to use public transport would take many hours a day and with winter coming she'll be on trains and busses in the dark, and its just not safe, so for now at least i have to stick it out here as we just added my 'partner' to dads insurance for his 4 x 4 as said partner only has his work van, which has a tracker on.... as dad is looking at a very lengthy stay in Velindre i cant have this fall through, both mum and dad are aware of what he has done but when he is out in the car mum will be with him, once the car gets home, i take the keys... i dont drive and because of my vertigo i cant travel far, the occasional trip to the beach with dogs and that takes vallium.... with dads car here partner can take mum shopping and make sure she keeps some normality
owl
Thanks for your good wishes for Mummy Owl. I spoke with her on the phone today and she sounded cheerful and very lucid. We were all geared up to go a-hunting a missing EBT in Gwent first thing tomorrow, lovely old boy 11 years old, but to everyone's delight the old rogue has just turned up in his back garden after being awol for 3 days up the mountain. Apart from bramble scratches and a weepy eye he is fine. Wispa says she was promised a day out tracking so will need to do something equally exciting instead.
