Clare
Against my better judgement I have let them keep him in for the day for observation, it was a different specialist today, and although the previous one obviously knew his stuff, this lady asked tons of questions and we covered a lot of history and she wanted to give him a good exam in case something has been missed and anemia is not what is causing his depression and lethagy. She also thought that the steriods could be causing the depression, just as Millimo mentioned with her girlie. She knows I feel his quality of life is now near a stage I find unacceptable and with this in mind hopefully she will be able to help me with my decision when I go back. I feel awful for abandoning him again, the only way he would go with the nurse was if I was with him and then when he didn't notice they snuck me out another door
merledogs
I am sorry that Murf didn't pick up after the transfusion Did they cross match the blood to ensure compatibility? If they didn't then his body may be reacting to the blood they transfused him with if it wasn't totally compatible. Or as the vet said, the steriods. I don't know what else to suggest, but will keep sending lots of positive/healing thoughts for Murf
Clare
Thanks Yes blood was crossmatched, thanks to your advise I asked, and he has a tag on his collar saying he is a crossmatched person The specialist just called to say nothing has shown up on the xrays, he does seem to have an irregular heart beat, although its goes from very strong and good for ages then a small irregularity, she is not sure needs looking into at the moment. She thought I might like to agree to him staying with them for a few days to be observed, but I told her I didn't think that was necessary and he would be better at home, she wasn't happy but changed her mind when I told her Petplan have confirmed we are up to our limit on vet fees, and I had only been able to extend my overdraft so far so would have to prioritise any future bills, she then agreed it was something that my vet could do on a daily basis if we wanted to go that route I am picking him up at 4pm and we shall see where we go from here, the bloods from yesterday should be back tomorrow and they will show whether the steriods have been working, as even though he was no better is apparantly can take some time for the body to feel the positive effects. Thanks again for the well wishes it helps so much to be able to share with people that understand

Clare
How is the ickle soldier this morning? Feeling a bit better I hope Thanks for asking I am trying not to get my hopes up but there were tiny signs that maybe he was feeling a bit better, so small I tried not to read too much into them, such as sitting up in the car for the first few minutes of the journey before he lay down (he always sat up in the car until he has been poorly), but he went to the vet this morning for his blood cell check, before the transfusion he was 14%, on Monday after the transfusion he was 26%, today he was 32% The vet did say that sometimes the spleen can just chuck a load of old stored cells out so it doesn't mean his body is producing them and not too read too much into it until he has had the test again tomorrow evening, but he thought he was acting differently and he actually scronged for biscuits this time, which he hasn't done for a while. They are still concerned about his heart / breathing, my vet hadn't been able to pick up any changes even after the specialist found it as it was so subtle, but my vet could hear it today, and I took him some video of the rapid breathing he does when he lays down which scares me to death, he is going to speak to the specialist today about his concerns. Just hoping that maybe all his system is out of synch and it will settle as he hopefully gets stronger. Ruthi very kindly put me in touch with a Reiki healer who is coming out to see him on Sunday, hopefully he can get all the energy flowing again. merledogs
Really pleased that he seems a bit better. Keeping fingers, toes, etc crossed that his bone marrow is producing red blood cells again. Please give him a gentle squish from me

Clare
Not so good today. After a hopeful start to the day yesterday he went back to his reclusive self, I think he is still a little bit better than before the tranfusion but its minimal, on a scale of 0-10 before the transfusion he was 0.5 and now he is a 1 He didn't want to walk last night or this morning, so feels like we are back to square one. My parents are back from holiday now so he with them today, it is normal for him to go there whilst I am at work so he won't be stressed by being there, work have been very understanding so don't want then to think I am taking advantage by taking more time off. The specialist called to say that from the bloods taken just before the transfusion she could see that the red blood cells were being killed in both the bone marrow and blood, which hints that the steroids possibly weren't working as he has been on the higher dose for four days by then - although that is my conclusion she didn't mention it Appointment for checking his % isn't until 6.10pm so long wait today
