The Horse Update / Pic Thread

I wouldn't necessarily say a horse that can help you now would be outgrown in the future, unless you are looking to compete seriously?

If I remember rightly you rode out on the beach with Jacky, so are not a total beginner. There are special horses out there who would do both, I personally wouldn't discount finding a horse that could help you learn and then go on to compete :flowers:

Needing very little excuse to browse Horsemart, for example Ad and the family friends section here HorseQuest The first grey gelding is  , oh and the second bay gelding  I knew there was a reason I don't visit those sites often

Not trying to railroad you into buying but don't want you to discount either, loaning is not always the best option :flowers:

I've spent quite a few hours looking at Horsequest already :blush02:

I did ride out on the beach with Jacky, but that was on a safe sensible horse, who was pretty much push button. She was fab - I just need to steal her or Danny for a few months and I'll be fine!!!

oooo how exciting Jayne......am sure there will be a horse out there somewhere....no harm in looking eh?

Anne - herbert looks amazing as does your riding....very jealous :glare:

I have had to put off going to ride Tiffany as mad panic to finish dissertation for next friday!! arrrghhh...its going to be the best feeling when i had the stupid thing in then can concentrate on horseys!!!

went out for a ride last sun (cant remember if i posted or not...) - went up to old work with friend (who is now their vet!) and sneakly asked to borrow a couple of horses that hadnt done much work to go out. I took Timmy who used to be quite naughty (he got sold before i started there for jumping out of the school with a client on) but he came back a couple of years ago and has been pretty much push button since.

Any how we took them on a new route and as soon as we turned off the usual track their ears pricked up and both were marching along. Went into the farmers field again where i took bud and said we would have a canter along the side....well as soon as i asked timmy to canter he was off!!!! havent been so fast in ages!!!! and was slightly worried we werent going to stop

Certainly blew away a few cobwebs!! I managed to get him under control (hes only 14.1 ish and normally so easy to stop!!) and he was doing half rears wanting to gallop back - i decided this wasnt a good idea as no gate on the field at the end and didnt want to to a 90 degree turn back to the stables!! so we jogged back onto the track....was so nice that he had a bit of his old spirit back... we went exploring at a more sedate pace then had a good canter back followed by a few laps of the school to cool down!!! Was lots of fun - i love going for rides when you know the horses are really enjoying it as well.

Just so you know Jayne, both Danny and Minty are loan horses!! So it shows they are out there. And with regards to out growing something, I think you'd be surprised. Danny is the sort of horse that adapts himself to his rider. I can put my 10 year old neice on him and he'll plod, and then this week we've had a 17 year event rider schooling him and he's been like a pocket rocket!!!  So given the right one you can grow with it rather than out of it. :flowers: TBH I never thought for one minute I'd be able to do XC or even simple jumping on Kane and he's proven me so very wrong, I bought him as a safe ploddy cob and he's certainly not that!!!

Think a rescue is an excellent idea, try Blue Cross, ILPH, Freshfields, RSPCA and of course Lesley. (Off to have a trawl now!!)

Got a bargain rug for Kane....£50 reduced to £27!! High necked and like a duvet!!! This is the woman that 2 years ago was determined her horse wouldn't be rugged!! It's all this rain...makes me feel guilty!!!!

Will not bore you all with the details, but some of you know that Rolo has been a bit more of a challenge than usual recently.

Well, has someone out to ride him today who specialises in riding youngsters/tricky horse/ ones with issues etc. (He is backing my friend's andalusian for her, which is why he was on the yard)

I was really worried about it - he is a superb rider (he events - looked hilarious on my 14.2 pony  ), and he can suss out a horse very quickly. Anyway - he rode him in the school for 5 mins to settle Rolo, then we all went down the fields together - and he schooled him in tthere then hacked him around the farm on his own.

He went really well for him - his considered opinion - nice pony, moves nicely, not particularly spooky - just needs a lot of desensitising. I feel so relieved!!!

Right Jayne, in order for us to seriously hunt for you we need some details.

Area, horse height/type/area you will ride in/what you want to do, stuff like that. Then we can do some timewasting at work shopping around for you for either loan/share/purchase  :flowers:
