Moaning :tired:

I'm exhausted :tired: Was watching telly in bed last night and happened to look up at the ceiling. Noticed that the wallpaper was bubbling. On closer inspection there was water coming through the ceiling right by the light fitting. I isolated the upstairs lights at the fuse box and went back to bed, but was worrying that water was going to burst through onto my bed. Eventually nodded off but got woken up by really hard rain, coupled with strong winds. It made such a racket that I got scared so ended up coming downstairs to sleep. Not the most comfortable night I've ever spent. I've now got to try and get a roofer to come out and sort it before the easter weekend, which I think is going to be tricky. I'm going to have to go up in the loft and see if I can spot where the water is leaking through so I can shove a bucket under it in the meantime. The roof is all covered in board from the inside so I hope it's going to be obvious otherwise I'm knackered.

Alex I had a place on the ceiling like that 2 houses ago. We couldn't find the source of the leak for a long time - turned out it was the slates lifting when the wind blew in a certain direction - so I lived with the "bubble" for quite some time. It used to get remarkably swollen but it never burst. This was on a lath and plaster ceiling. I hope you are able to get yours sorted soon to give you peace of mind :flowers:

It was terribly windy here last night and I got woken up several times because of it. I am always worried that our chimney stack will blow down again on next door's bathroom roof again. That was fun!

Jayne I hope you get a last dive in today.

Hope you can get things sorted without too much expense Alex, there's always something when you are a home owner! One benefit of being in a council house I suppose, they get things done for them.

Blowing a hoolie here last night, I went out this morning to check that a) the summerhouse was still standing and b) the very large laurel behind it still was behind it, and not on top of it! So far so good.

Dylan seems to having good days at the moment and we nearly put off our appointment for tonight, but he stands like a pretzel..nothing is in a straight line..so we'll go anyway. I think I'll have to do all the talking as even discussing him at home makes OH start to well up. Although obviously we both love Dyl, he's always been his Daddy's boy, OH can't even go to the loo without Dyl standing outside the door whining. If the worst comes, then he'll have to man up and put on a brave face, at least until we get out of the surgery.

Hope you soon feel better Jazz.

Meant to say, I did my good deed for the day today, I went to the post office and there was a very doddery old lady in there complaining that she had to walk to the bank and she was sure to get blown over, and the care home should have sent someone with her etc. etc. I volunteered to escort her to the bank (and carry her shopping). Never taken so long to go a short distance, even when my knee was bad, but hey...I might need an arm myself one day. Give everyone in the very long queue behind her, no one tutted or looked impatient for her keeping them waiting.

Dyl has a supply of steroid tablets...two a day for three days, then one a day or one every other day for two weeks. If he shows improvement on them, we'll keep him on a maintenance dose, if not...then she says it's our decision, but if we feel his quality of life is not good then we will probably decide to say goodbye. Please keep everything crossed the steroids work! She says it's spinal, not a brain thing, so hopefully they will.

It was hailing, sleeting and blowing a gale when we came out of the vets...Spring. Ha!

Well done Suzeanna :)

Hope the steroids work for Dylan - Ted was on them for a while before and his spinal op, they really made a difference. You could tell if you forgot to give him one - he'd not be able to walk at all.

Hope your roof is easily and cheaply mended Alex - the roof in my bedroom at mum and dad's did that as it was a dormer bedroom. It was something to do with tiles and flashing and stuff. My uncle is a joiner and he mended it - not had a problem with it since.

All this weather talk is making me want to stay here! I fly home tomorrow - didn't get another dive in, it would have been nice, but it's not the end of the world :)

Need to get planning Sri Lanka now. I had planned everything for November, but since I'm doing NY and Vegas then, am going to need to move Sri Lanka forward to July. Which means I need to change things around a bit. I can get a package deal with Virgin, which might be a good idea for my first trip, just whilst I get to grips with the country and things. Most of the deals I have found though are for the west and southwest coast, but the weather is supposed to be a bit intermittent in July

when I signed for the bungalow, they said I had to ask permission to do anything, so I did, told them we need a yes asap so we can knock a cupboard out and decorate, so just got onto the surveyer, he wants plans sent to him. I haven't got time or knowledge to do them, just want a yes today!

Alicia just draw a rough sketch (not to scale) to show the position of anything fixed and then highlight the space taken by the cupboard - add the room measurements. If you have an email address for the surveyor you could also back the rough plan up with photos and email them in. If the surveyor asks for properly drawn up plans, which I honestly doubt he will, just tell him you are in no position to get professional plans made.
