Please send positive thoughts for our dear Jan who was rushed to the vet's this morning after having breathing difficulties :(

She went down with Kennel Cough last Thursday and didn't appear to be particularly ill until late last night. By this morning she was distressed, breathing very shallow and rapid and trembling with discomfort.

Vet put her straight on to a drip and said he suspected bronchopneumonia which was confirmed this afternoon following x rays of her chest. He said it is a severe case.

We went to see her tonight and she was slightly better but the next 24 hours are critical so fingers crossed she will improve some more.

It is a mystery as to why she has become so ill as we have another 4 of our 7 dogs down with it and she seemed the least affected by it.

Normally it is only dangerous to frail or elderly dogs and Jan is our youngest (11 and not old for a Beagle) and she s probably the most robust of them all. The vet is quite puzzled.

We are wondering now if it is some kind of new strain and we know there is a lot of it in the Birmingham and South Midlands area.

Our big worry is that dear old Bosun may get it as he has just recovered from a major crisis recently and it would finish him off.

At the moment we have the other 3 totally isolated from the ones that have got it so we hope and pray that what we are doing is enough.

Here is a pic of our dear Jan.

I know Andrea, it has been the worse year that I can remember and we will be glad to see the back of it  We have suffered so many losses this year, not just animals but people also and had so many health problems here.

We have to be positive and look forward to 2008 and anticipate a much better year :)
