  1. If anyone needs a location, Woodford Lane leads towards the Canaston Woods and Blackpool Mill area - might be a few 'trippers' in the area walking dogs etc tomorrow now the holidays have started. The woods will at least provide plenty of cover, if that's where he's in the area of. I will hopefully be along tomorrow to help with the search. and Leanne if you're reading this, I will give you a ring in the morning on you're mob - too late to ring you now ..... Sandra
  2. Hi I live south of Haverfordwest - I will forward this on to a friend who's family farm in the Narbeth/Templeton area which I think is in the Robeston Wathen area in Pembrokeshire. Owl will pm you to find out what's what and see if I can come and help tomorrow morning ........ Sandra
  3. I suppose the only other problem with burning driftwood, is it may gunk up your chimney??? We've just had a clearview multifuel stove fitted and are burning fir tree wood which I read somewhere that that can cause quite a built up of tar in the chimney but fortunately ours is 'seasoned' so should be ok, and as it was free makes it even more enjoyable to sit and toast yer toes in front of. But I wondered about collecting some drift wood too ..... Sandi
  4. Did you get hold of her Flukespad only she was online on another forum not too long ago?
  5. Flippin' 'eck - I'm a Lion!
  6. What about, as well as the other suggestions, a lovely rose from somewhere like David Austin Roses ( http://www.davidaustin.co.uk) (you might have to add 'roses' at the end of the link) .... maybe a shrub rose and put it in a nice tub, something like an old half whiskey barrel (available at garden centres) - just thinking, you could have a nice rememberence plaque as well, for those moments when you want to go and have time to yourself to remember and have a chat with Rosie Buttons ........ Sandra
  7. Just to let you all know Carol has now updated the website and it now shows the availability for all the properties - especially for any of you who saw it appear as booked right through to 2009 and were interested in coming to this bootiful corner of Wales! http://www.littledumpledale.co.uk So 'pants' to the credit crunch, throw caution to the wind and get booking! (your dog's'll enjoy it! ) Sandra
  8. You do indeed Abby Me, hubby and the 3 hounds moved to Pembrokeshire nearly a year ago from Hertfordshire and we haven't looked back, the countryside is stunning, we have the only coastal national park in the uk, we have the presili hills and of course the beaches. You are actually near my aunty, she's in Llanon, just outside Aberystwyth, again very very pretty and historically we have spent many holidays in North Wales too - t'is a beautiful country ..... Was It A Fit?

Hi Jazz It does sound like an episode of some sort of brain activity. Make a note of the circumstances before and after, time of day etc etc. In the meantime might be worth your while having a look here .... http://www.canineepilepsy.co.uk/default.htm - there is info on signs of other brain activity that's not epilepsy. You may also find similar and more indepth info here http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/site_map.htm and look out for tell tail signs such as her bed being in a jumble which looks out of the usual ... HTH's Sandra
  11. In a nutshell CT is of the Pack Leader Brigade. i.e dogs are wolves. As a result his training methods are based on the owners maintaining their leadership by means of being the dominant alpha pack leader. He teaches (as his books also say) owners to stand in their dog's bed - to show them who's boss. Eat before your dog. Etc etc etc. So pretty much any dog who growls is being dominant and about to take over the family household and then maybe conquer the world All that kind of stuff. That's the polite version but I have other reasons to dislike this man but like Whizzie am unable to divulge them here and am quite pleased with myself for being so restrained in writing the above Sandra
  12. Ditto and Whizzie will explain it far better than me apart from to say if there was a rocket on a one way ticket to the moon - he'd be the first in the queue to stick on it!
  13. Alongside fox pooh though I reckon!!!
  14. ..... because you are thinking of Colonal Konrad Most who was way ahead of his time with regard to dog behaviour and is where a lot of todays modern training methods come from. This is very brief but gives you a quick low down .... http://www.dogwise.com/SearchResults.cfm?S...ubSearch=author Sandra
  15. I've added me but I can't move the damn pin across to Wales !!! I'm in Pembrokeshrie
  16. 'ere go ......... http://www.caninespirit.co.uk/shop/default...mp;prodsecid=10 Sandi
  17. Just checked - it's under First Aid and Safety - Bear Bell .......
  18. They sell them here: http://www.caninespirit.co.uk (or com )
  19. Wind's definitely got up here in Pembrokeshire and now I can hear the rain ...... feeling there's worse to come ........ (and I haven't got any candles - Oh knickers! )
  20. Oh dear and ouch! ( ) Teach them all to sit - (hoping that they're foodies of course) - when your OH comes through the door he asks for a sit from all of them and then gives them all a bikki - and ok - off you go ...... by that time hopefully they will all have calmed down ....... Sandra
  21. Erm ... well ..... I'm reading Fallen Skies by Phillippa Gregory for the second time round - it's bit of a love story set around the first world war and then I have lined up Night Shall Overtake Us by Kate Sanders - which starts in 1907 and tells the story of four girls who make a blood vow of eternal friendship and tells their stories right through the first world war and brings in the fold the suffragette movement - real good stuff and a bit 'raunchy' in places (again it'll be the second read!) - I find both of them fall into the category of 'can't put down'! but I also like anything by Nicola Thorn and Jessica Stirling and am a huge fan of Barbara Erskine - I just love stories that are about the past affecting the present - the best one is her first novel 'Lady of Hay' - can be quite 'spookey' ...... Sandra
  22. http://www.cottages4u.co.uk (I think ) and do a search for 'Rocky Hill' which is in Holywell Bay - there is a dog friendly bungalow which sleeps 6 and is just a stone's throw away from the glorious Holywell Bay beach and sand dunes and ideally situated for touring. I'm sure you get a discount for 2 persons though - so plenty of room to spread yourselves out! We've been going there for autumn breaks for the past few years and were supposed to be going at the end of October but had to cancel coz we've put our house on the market here in Herts and decided to go live in Pembrokeshire so had to cancel Rocky Hill coz we need the money and OH needs the annual leave to go property hunting in West Wales instead (just need to sell our house now - not picked the best time to sell though ) RH is comfortable, has enclosed garden etc. I have some photo's (somewhere) so shout if you're interested. Sandra
  23. Although this wont help right at this very moment, but would probably be handy to keep in as your dog has recurring colitis. This was recommended to us by Richard Allport for Skye's gippy tum: http://www.naturalpetcare.co.uk/petshop/pr...products_id=404 used to really help him and I always keep a pot in for when it's needed. Sandra
  24. It is a HUGE subject Akitas - but once you get a basic understanding (and even then I still get confused) - all these manufacturers are very clever with words - another dodgy one that is open to different interpretation is when they state 'Natural' - hmm when you look into it 'Natural', 'Natural' may not be 'Natural' in the sense we understand the word - I'll have to try and remember where I saw some info on this. And another one to look into is for e.g 'meat meal', so you will have something like min 4% chicken listed (but does this mean, chicken breast or any other part of a chicken? then later it says 'chicken meal'. What does that mean? and why doesn't it just come under the 4% chicken - why is it separate? Mind blowing. I'll try and find those other links but will have to do later as I have to pop out now. Research 'Cereals' - what cereals - why can't they say 'Corn' or whatever (I know some do but many don't). and get an understanding of 'Derivatives' - what does that mean? And I think I'm correct in saying, there are some ingredients they don't have to list .......... I feed Burns but even Burns are probably open for criticism too along with all the others and they're all in competition with one another but at least there are ones who are far superior than others. Oh heck, you'll be busy all night now! Sandra
  25. I think you have to careful in not getting too 'hung up' on the too much protein debate. It's really, more about what is the ingredient that is being made up as protein and it's quality that is relevant - then you have to understand how protein works in your dog's body. Personally, I'm more concerned about the cheap ingredients that are in the food i.e the fillers (low grade cereals etc) animal derivatives - Yeah right - what does that mean? - why not name the animal and parts of it that have been ground up - is it sheep, goat, rat/hoof, beak etc - why can't manufacturer's tell us? It is also very important to understand the chemicals that are added and what their potential affects are - they are often the culprits for hyperactivity etc. And then you have to understand your carbohydrates, Enzymes, Fatty Acids, Amino Acid etc - in other words all the nutritional lingo particularly if you are thinking of issuing some form of leaflet for distribution to outlets - you must know your subject and what you are talking about backed up with evidence. Have you ever wondered how manufactured food is put together? If you look here it will tell you and it is certainly interesting .... http://www.fediaf.org/Pages/prepared.html and have you ever wondered where our prepared food is made over here in the UK? - well it's here: http://www.goldenacres.co.uk/home/default.asp Hope this is thought provoking. For those of you who are like me and find this an interesting subject if you can get hold of a copy of Canine Nutrition - What Every Owner, Breeder and Trainer Should Know by Lowell Ackerman, DVM it will explain things a little more clearer as to what protein etc actually is. This should keep you all out of trouble now for the rest of the afternoon ..... Sandra
