I can't remember if you've tried her on Synflex  Milly has suffered with severe HD in both hips since she was less than a year old and it is managed on just Synflex, with the odd shot of Metacam when she's overdone it. I don't know if it would work for Flora but worth trying if you haven't already done so.

She was on Synflex, Alex, but she improved so much with the hydro/physio/acupuncture that I gave our supply to Bear (I was getting a bit desperate to find something to make him work by then :( ). I'll go order more now. Thanks for the reminder :flowers:

I've seen Anne's Barty run round like a loon on Sunday, wouold never have known that there was anything wrong with him  :flowers:

This is where I get into such a dilemma with Flora because she will run and run and run and when her hips start hurting she'll run back to me, whinge so that I know she's hurting, then run away again  It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place - do I restrict such a young dog to onlead exercise and protect her hips, or do I let her run offlead and have a happy dog with good life quality??

Would she be a candidate for a total hip replacement or is there not enough bone in the pelvis to anchor the sockets to???

There is no need to apologise - I can see how my first post was misleading. I forget that not everybody knows Flora's history  Thank you very much for sharing your experience, it does help a lot :flowers: Hip replacement was mentioned as an option for the future back when we saw Steve so I guess it would depend on whether arthritis has done enough damage to her pelvis to prevent it, but it may be a possibility.

Thank you all so much for thinking of my girl, I really do appreciate it :liebe94:

Not sure if you didn't see my first post, or if it just not of use to you :flowers: ? It might help her a bit.

Personally I would go for quality over quantity anytime. You have known for a long time that she is not well, and I assume you do not expect her to live as long as a healthy dog would... so make the very most of the time you do have, and let her be a happy dog :flowers:

 Sorry :flowers: I did see it and looked at the link. It's something else that I need to look into. Flora does feel the cold terribly and is quite often to be found wearing a t-shirt or hoodie whilst the heating is on  so that could be a good way to get her extra support. Thank you for the extra words too :flowers:

I've just been reading back over the original thread about all of this back in October 2007 and have had quite a few :mecry: I think I'd pushed a lot of it to the back of my mind because it was just all too horrendous to deal with - I'd certainly forgotten that Mr Specialist had taken her off of metacam as it wouldn't have been helping her at all  If anyone is in the slightest bit interested in re-reading over the old ground, the thread is here :flowers:
