Ronnie's First Gotcha Day

Just over a year ago, I was on the search for another dog. I had a long list of requirements but only one at the heart of it: it had to be the dog nobody else wanted. Ideally a boy, black, a greyhound and one with issues or special needs. All of those qualities would make him difficult to rehome and I wanted him.

After not much searching at all, I received a call from a lady in Essex who had a greyhound who was all of the above. He'd been in her kennels for just over a year and nobody gave him so much as a second glance. He was two years old. In that short space of time, he'd be born in Ireland, moved to the UK, been kept locked in a shed, picked up by the RSPCA and then ended up in Brentwood. I was told he had hip dysplasia.

I drove over two hours to go and meet him, taking Pixie and Alfie with me. Ronnie was perfect

One year ago today, I drove back to collect my big heffalump Ronnie from RGT Brentwood. This was taken when we got home.

After he'd been here for a couple of months, we started hydrotherapy for his hip condition. I've never seen a dog so confused at what he was supposed to do. He sank when the buoyancy aid was taken off and just floated without moving when it was put back on! We also tried physiotherapy which he didn't really take to.

Not long ago we saw an orthopaedic specialist who informed us that his hip problem was actually congenital hip dislocation, which is mostly similar but a bit less trauma on the joints. It means since a very young age, possibly from his birth, he had a dislocated hip which was never treated so it's developed in a funny old fashion. His hip is dropped and he doesn't have great movement but he actually does really really well with it.

Ronnie has also been to see Toni Shelbourne recently, who is a fantastic TTouch practitioner. He seems to really like TTouch and, although it's early days, I think it's making a difference to his confidence levels. Mostly, everything outside of eating and sleeping is fearful for Ronnie so TTouch can only bring good things for him.

I don't think I helped his confidence levels when I made him try on some pink pyjamas which clearly didn't fit

Or when his Secret Santa present last year was given to him...

And these were taken today, to show he still enjoys a run about despite being a bit special

Happy Gotcha Day Ronnie dog  I hope we have many, many more together!

Awww, happy Gotcha Day Ronnie    You are a lovely boy, I hope to meet you one day :) Really glad the TTouch is helping.

I do *need* to know where those pyjamas came from please - they match Cassie's food bowl and she needs some

Ronnie would really like to meet you too, Ange :flowers:

Actually I was wasting time in Wilkinsons last week and noticed that they have fleece throws in the exact same print, either in the same pink or a bluey-green pattern, for £5 each

Thank you for all the replies. Ronnie has enjoyed sausages then had the 'juice' poured over his food. He's a happy lad now because food is his most favourite thing in the whole world :)
