What Bugs You Most About Other Dog Owners?

Have just taken Nora to a potential new home. We are keeping her but this home sounded perfect and we went to see if it would be better for her than here where she doesnt get as much time as potential new home could offer.

Introduced to resident SBT , few grumbles nothing much tho so went for onlead walk then proceded to offlead . Resident dog being better off lead and not being convinced nora wouldnt squash him, kept her onlead(long line under control) , him offlead. Resident dog ok until nora approched owners(slowly showing no signs of anything) at which point he flew at her. Nora legged it (lol) with him hanging off her.

Owners faffed about like going "ooo" alot while I grabbed their dog.

That really p1sses me off!

Its not my dog being a shite why should i be the one to split them up?! Yet it isnt the first bloody time ive had to risk getting bitten cos owners are too stupid/scared of their own dogs.

So what bugs you most about other owners?

Saying to me *it's ok he wouldn't hurt a fly* I'm sure he wouldn't....I still don't like a strange dog jumping up at me...

....and parents pushing prams with off lead dogs walking down the pavement...if dog decides to run into the road/away from owner....where would their priorities lie...with dog or child in pram???

Oh yes, people who have their dogs offlead when walking by the road. I used to do it with my first dog  but wouldn't dream of doing it now, so it bugs me now.

I once saw an owner having to react very quickly to grab what is probably normally a beautifully behaved collie before it ran in front of a bus  .

Yes! when I had one very 'other dog unfriendly' foster girl who turned without warning ( she was always on the lead) I lost count of the times I yelled please can you get your dog away to people on the other side of the field, miles away & oblivious, while I tried to wrestle her off going for their throat ! & on the other side of the coin people who let their dog unfriendly dogs off the lead & have a pop at yours

I've lost count of the number I've times I've had to grab hold of a strange dog that is being very aggressive with one of my own while it's owner is stood about 5 miles away like nothings happening. It gets worse when they finally do turn up to take their dog off you because you never get any sense out of them never mind an apology.

I got annoyed with a stupid woman the other night who had a GSP running round riot when I was out with Sheena. It took her ages to walk up to us. We had been stood still for ages which Sheena can't do very well at the moment bless her. What did she say. He's ok he's just very boisterous. I thought yes I know what GSP's are like but Sheena is an old dog, doesn't need this kind of sh1t and can't you see she has recently lost a leg you silly b*tch.

A few to be going on wth

  • Lack of committment, they think they love thier dog until he/she gets in the way of thier holiday/new partner/ lifestyle etc.
  • People walking dogs off lead on the street.
  • People tying their dogs up outside a shop (where they can't see their dog)
  • People not picking up.
  • Thinking having pedigree "papers" means thier dog is something special, i.e. only valuing a dog if its a so called pedigree. Especially hate all this designer crossbreed nonsense too.

1. People who tie their dogs to the pushchair! Both my husband and I have once each had to come to the rescue of dogs and toddler because of this stupid irresponsible behaviour.

2. Owners who tie their dogs up outside shops. :glare:

3. Owners who wander around the woods with no idea where their dogs are or what they are up to leaving you to hang on to them whilst calling out "can you come and get your dog" because it is getting over excited around your own.

Owners who pretend not to notice their dog has crapped somewhere - especially on playfields and when the dog is on a lead 3 feet away

OK now this may not make me popular but owners with dog agressive dogs who insist on taking their dogs to popular dog walking areas then scream at me to keep my (on-lead) dogs away from theirs - if it is that bad why not walk it around the streets and not in areas where they are bound to meet lots of other dogs.(Not those who are genuinely trying to socialise their dogs, that's different altogether)

Owners who give my dogs treats without asking - Daisy because she's overweight and Duncan because he NEVER forgets who gave him a treat and will be a pain every time he meets them in the future.

People who think their dogs don't need to be walked because they have the garden to play in.

Owners who seem to think their dogs will learn obedience by some sort of osmosis and don't actually need to be trained.

And especially like Helly those who think because their dogs are small and cute they can get away with any behaviour - and especially Terrier owners.

Owners who encourage my dogs to jump up on them because they're wearing their dog walking clothes - like mine are going to differentiate next time they see them and they're dressed for work

Not picking up poo ESPECIALLY when it's on a path (at least kick it to the side and bury with sticks or something) or when they're near a poo bin.

Like Chickentikka said: Those who let dogs off lead then proceed to leave dog to own devices whilst they sit down and do nought! Ted. was swimming once with his ball and a man came (10 minutes after collie) and just sat down on a bench doing his own thing. His collie kept swimming after Ted's ball which was fine except it was not all that fit and was clearly struggling as dog kept swimming thinking the ball was still there. Owner just sat at bench whilst I panicked and worried about dog and tried to get it back out of the water and to stop swimming out. Man eventually realised dog might be getting into trouble and trundled over begrudgingly. Happy to play with other people's dogs but would rather not worry about their life for them too!!

And then there's the collie that came rushing out of a bush late one night at Ted., taking us both by surprise whilst his owner was 'otherwise engaged' with his girlfriend LOL

Oh oh where do I start....

* People who have absolutely NO idea of their dogs body language and thus cannot discern play from aggression, happy excitement from fearful worried panting.... etc.

*People who yell 'hes just being friendly' at me when their totally unsocialised dog leaps on mine... I'll let mine off the lead shall I and he can show them how to be really UNfriendly as he pins the 'friendly' yet extremely rude and threatening dog down and threatens to rip its throat out? Ah no... that makes them complain.

*People who think they can do exactly as they damn well please, let their dogs roam the street, never pick up any sh!t, and say 'ooh but hes under control' because he comes back, ignoring the fact that their dog is 30ft in front of them round a blind corner starting a fight with someone elses dog.

* People who dont think they need to train little dogs, and think its SO CUTE when their little dog attacks a bigger one. Again these people get really stroppy when the bigger dog objects.

* People who tell me that they 'know' rotties/dobes/staffies/gsds' have to be muzzled in public and you need a licence for trhem, and their pitbull is ok because they are going to get it registered cos you can do that, its fine...

Theres more.. i have to go and breathe though!
