bobbysmum
I thought the dressage was fab. (although I freely admit to knowing nothing and I would be lost after the first couple of turns.) How do you remember it all?
collies r best
Foals are Bradders, hope youre ok now, i think yesterday was a day for the unexpected as my little girl Jodie came off Bumble for the first time yesterday and it was quite a hard fall. Jodie was riding on the lunge when something spooked Bumble and he bolted ,as Jodie is only up to doing rising trot this was a bit much! She landed face down on woodchips and had a servere nosebleed, grazes and cuts. Thankfully i always make her wear her body protector and a good hat and you can see the difference it makes as she has bruising coming out from her hips down. However in true kiddie fashion she insisted on riding today for 5mins.In all the years i've known Bumble hes never reacted like that, as Jodie flew off he slammed the brakes on and was obviously worried about her but what set him off is a mystery. Bless her - I feel her pain!!! I think I might take to wearing a body protector - if nothing else yesterday has emphasised just how easy it is to fall off!! My hip seems to be recovering but have now got a really sore rib - body protector wuld have stopped that. It is my birthday next month so I may ask for money so that I can buy myself a nice lightweight one. I rode Rolo tonight - I was really proud of myself Went out in the school, on my own, got him to stand by the mounting block, and stand still while I struggled on. Then just went for a mooch around the school for 15 mins - walk and trot on both reins, but nothing exciting!! He was a very good boy. When I am not aching so much I am goign to have to get someone to escort us along that same route - need to get him past that spot again - unfortunately my main escort has had to give her horse 2 weeks off work - typical Anyone know how to make a new leather saddle less slippery? My farrier (ex household cavalry) said they used to spit on their saddles, someone else suggested a thin layer of saddle soap?
Clare
Well done on riding again today Bradders, glad to hear it was uneventful and you are not too sore. I love my body protector but haven't yet ridden in it Not sure about what to do with your saddle to make it less slippery, how about some sticky bum jods? I have heard about the spitting on the saddle soap, from what I can remember it brings the leather up nice too Jumping at WEC has been uncancelled, but having now given myself a kick to go out and do something in the big bad world I am going to stick with it, I will feel I have made a huge step forward if I can say I have been out and done something. It is something on my list for this year, even if I only do it once

Oh dear poor Jodie, hope she feeling okay today. Great girl for getting back on him. Jen I've never got on with leather saddles either! That's why I love my sythetics...more grip!!! My treeless is leather but because it's so comfortable I don't move off it! I'm happy...lump is pretty much nearly gone!!! It absolutely tipped down last night so I drove down the drive to feed him (lazy girl!!) it was so funny cos that's what I do in the winter and they obviously remembered and all came pelting down the field!!! Lovely sight to see the foals kicking and bucking!! Felt really guilty though when I took Kane out and the others all stood watching him eat!!! Sarah_H
Great to see Nya looking so well How is Easta? Easta is ok, well out in a field at grass getting rather fat!! She has been taken barefoot as it was shoeing that caused the injury. The farrier had allowed her feet to become boxy and to much heel, essentially like you see alot of dressage horses. Which caused undue stress on Easta's deep digital flexor tendon and ultimately tore one of them. she was jumping and landing on her toes then not having the correct mechnical action in her feet to land and follow through correctly. So under my insistance she has gone barefoot and has been subject to my foot filing (I have been trained). However she is now sound and is going to have another 8 weeks off before coming back into work, but will be remaining barefoot for the near future. So fingers crossed she will be fine and can go back to competing but with careful instruction from me regarding her feet. It the one thing I am totally obsessive about and am still livid with the farrier for essentially making Easta lame and costing me a £6k vet bill!! Trust me never to think just because a farrier does one of our number one dressage riders that he is any good for show jumpers!
Clare
Glad to hear she is on the mend On the subject of feet, I am having trouble getting through to my farrier on why I am not happy with Loki's front feet, I took some pics of them at the weekend, I will download them later and see what peeps on here think. I spent a few days with a leading barefoot chap last month, I learnt so much andn ot just about feet. We're now looking at how we keep the horses up in Carsington all together, and are looking to do a 'pasture paradise.' the best thing i ever did for Nya was to take her shoes off, I swear she couldn't feel her feet properly with them on. She moves so much better now its scary. And she hacks out on roads 4 times a week with no problems.
