  1. I also have business insurance on my van as I used to dog walk for clients. It didn't cost me any extra. I am fully comp with Norwich Union
  2. That article does not surprise me I knew an ex police woman who when she was once on duty told a man with a Japanese Akita that they were illegal and that the dog should be kept on a lead all the time . When I told her they weren't illegal she would not believe me at first. She admitted it was the "Japanese" that had confused her due to the illegal breed being Japanese **Tosa. It's scary that these people who have no idea about dogs and also, it seems, know nothing about the law concerning illegal breeds, can be in control of people's lives. People assume the police know what they're doing.
  3. Where are these people coming from? Yet again targeting dogs for what they look like instead of what they do. Dog racism
  4. I can vouch for TRPD stuff - it's all well made with quality material... cheap, delivered fast .....and p&p included in price .... and it helps rescues! What more could you want. http://petcraftproject.proboards24.com/ind...amp;thread=9830
  5. Texas' exploits are better than the tele! Keep them coming
  6. Thanks everyone. Am leaning towards tom tom ONE v3 -as I need to keep it below £100 and can get this for £80 How do people go on with charging it up - both Garmin and Tom TOM? Do you get the relevant kit for this - is it just for cigar thingy in the car? I would prefer to do it in my house - can you get a charger as per mobile phone to do it? Also how long does it hold charge and what did you actually get with it i.e. windscreen holder thing, charger, which leads? Thanks
  7. Hi All Having just done a transport run and got lost in the middle of Sheffield - mainly due to duff information on Multimap (google was down) - I am thinking of getting a sat nav. I have really tried hard not to get one as I do like map reading and it helps to keep the grey cells alive sorting routes out but in the middle of cities these days, where they've made all these new fast roads, it's just a nightmare. Anybody who has a sat nav - what make and model is it and why do you like it? I don't want to go over £100 and I only want GB - have been looking at TomTom ONE GB (V3) approx £80 on amazon. Anyone got this one? Thanks folks
  8. I can back up Jacobean's recommendation for TRPD - I have just bought a raincoat for my Staff (burberry check - ever so posh!). It's really well made and fantastic good quality material - it's a deep fit cos I like him to be well covered. It was only £12. They help rescues out with coats - website can be a bit confusing but Jackysian on here will order for you.
  9. Am just waiting for the "getting Connected" book and dvd coming from Amazon. Will let you know about dvd when I've watched it The two books I've got of her's at mo are "Canine Body Language" and "Aggression in Dogs" - just getting towards end of the second one and have to say I've found it really good in explaining things and giving in depth explanations of different behaviourial criteria. I can't say I've found anything so far that I would feel uncomfortable with in the way she deals with different problem behaviours but of course it's different when you can actually see her working. Postman has just delivered "Getting Connected".........great!!!!! Will be back after watching dvd in next few days. Kathy
  10. Anyone know if there's a website out there that coordinates future behaviour seminar details in the UK. The only ones I have come across have details of ones that have already happened! This would hopefully include speakers who come over from the US - which it's very difficult to find out about until they're all sold out. Many thanks for any info anyone has out there
  11. Will be sending two second hand (still warm) tank like staffy coats (belonged to Piglet now gone to the bridge ) and one new one in next few days (my old dog won't put one foot in front of the other with a coat on!). Can't have these dogs cold Quote taken from TRPD forum <<There are approx. 30 dogs that are in kennels at the moment under Rescue Remedies / Terrier Rescue care - this is in addition to the dogs in foster homes and who are in existing homes desperate to get into rescue. The address to send donated coats to is: Rescue Remedies 14 Chase Road Linford Hampshire GU35 0RG If you are kind enough to treat your doggie to a new coat for winter and send your old one to rescue remedies please mention TRPD - thanks The dogs mainly need to be kept warm but even a raincoat will keep out drafts and keep the dogs dry on walks which means they are not put back into kennels still wet.>>
  12. Am just about to get her most recent book "Get Connected with your Dog" it has a 90 minute DVD in it as well - I have 2 of her other books "Aggression in Dogs" and "Canine Body Language - A Photographic Guide" I have dozens of behaviour books and have to say that I consider Brenda's books to be the best I've come across. In my opinion they may be a bit difficult for beginners but she describes complicated learning proceedures with brilliant clarity. They are quite expensive but IMO are well worth the money. They are big thick books and go into fantastic detail. I also have her Aggression in Dogs DVD which is interesting but not the best quality images and sound. I have just emailed her to ask if she has any future plans to tour the UK as I would be there like a shot!

    Pet Paperwork

A4 lever arch file with plastic dividers - you can get them with numbers and one at the front where you can write out what each number relates to ....if you understand my meaning I got mine from Tesco dead cheap.
  14. Hayley - with a serious puller wouldn't this pull against the windpipe of the dog? I personally couldn't find a better one than the fleece lined ones from Dog Games. I think their's are better made than some other cheaper fleece lined ones which I have seen being sold at behaviour conferences etc. I'll stick to Dog Games.
  15. Thanks everyone Yes I think celeste says it all ! My dog is a larger type staff with **very** strong jaws. The only thing he hasn't shredded in a couple of hours (or minutes depending on how supposedly "indestructible" it is) is a large black Kong. But he likes to find sticks on the walk. I think the hosepipe idea could be the way to go - an old fashioned rubber one - if they still make such a thing Thanks K9Fran. I'll ask at my local ironmongers "cave".
  16. Wondered if anyone had info on where to buy these from - if they exsist? I know Ruff Dawg do one but they look quite small - anyone use one? It would have to be strong enough to withstand staffie jaws and reasonably large. Thanks in advance.
  17. Honestly! I had a 16 1/2 year old dog who went to the bridge last year - she was deaf and part blind and was confused toward the end - she was always on a flexi when outside in the dark. My present oldie is 16 and she is deaf and part blind - she gets worried in the dark as obviously it's much harder for her to distinguish things then - she doesn't bump into things but can wander off in the wrong direction if she isn't aware of which way I've gone. She feels much more secure on a flexi in the dark although we only do a little local walk then. Probably owner couldn't be bothered to go out with dog last thing at night and she got lost! Wonder whether he'd get lost in the dark if he was deaf and blind! And as for dog "going off to die" I've never heard such twaddle Yeh like - under a bus! Has he never heard of caring for older animals? Dog warden needs to go and have a word with him and make him aware of his responsibilities to this dog.
  18. Just another moan I'm afraid I don't like the different coloured circles on the left that are supposed to tell you whether you've read the post or whether a new post has been added. Prefer the system in use on the rest of the forum as this is easier to notice.
  19. Great news! It wasn't.......The Queen.......after all was it?
  20. http://www.cottageguide.co.uk/millhill/ I have stayed here twice - lovely countryside for walking, peaceful location near Hadrians Wall. I have 3 dogs. http://tinyurl.com/8dqhkc Exmoor - great cottage central to everything North Devon - lovely farmer owns it - I took two dogs but am sure she would take three if you told her how well behaved yours are. http://www.cottageguide.co.uk/ This is a good guide as you book direct and so cheaper. http://www.cottages-and-castles.co.uk/ This is good for Scotland. HTH
  21. That looks like my house Michelle - single asda duvets wall to wall rather than carpet!
  22. I've just bought three collars from this site and have to say that they are absolutely brilliant. She has a good selection of different snazzy designs and the fittings are really strong top quality - and I'm very picky http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Posh-Pets Prices are good as well and came reasonably quickly. Have no connection with the seller but I always find it difficult to find collars I like ....till now.
  23. Got one yesterday in Morrisons Really good informative article, just the right balance - well done the journalist and Oldies members who were interviewed
  24. Love his multi coloured nail varnish and pink nose. What a great looking dog. Why could nobody see how beautiful he was before you did lester?

    Dogmatic

I used to use a Dogmatic but am not as impressed with them these days as they changed the design a bit from the originals. I use a Gentle Leader - cheap, medium will adjust to fit most dogs, doesn't pull up under the eyes and has worked well with lots of dogs with problems who I've worked with
