  5. We have had a fantastic day today at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, my daughter Lorna who is disabled is swimming at the Disability Sports England Short Course Swimming Championship. Firstly all the Swm GB Team were there and taking part and were introduced to the crowds. Ellie Simmonds is a sweetie and some of the lads were "fit"so I was told. Lorna has only been able to swim in competitions since April after she had been Classified, and this is only the third competition she has entered. Today she broke all her personal best times and in the 50m breastroke achieved a Gold. I am so proud of her, I am grinning from ear to ear. Not bad seeing as she could so easily have been written off at birth, and has struggled all her life to prove to others that she can achieve anything she wants. She has trained four nights a week to get to this stage and if hard work and effort gets her to London 2012 she will be there. I felt sad for Derek my husband though as he was not well enough to come and watch, the shingles is still winning at the moment. Her sister came from Hudderfield, my brother and family came from Norwich, one of her ex teachers came with her family, my aunt also came who lives in Sheffield. Lorna's good friend and sports mentor travelled up with me as Derek wasn't able to come. She didn't want me driving on my own. Today she was swimming for the East Midlands and they are great team. They are still there and will be competing again tomorrow. Good Luck to you all and enjoy.

  9. Our kids are really precious to us and it is scary when they are not well. Over the years with my daughter (who has Spina Bifida) I have learnt to question everything and if you need to go and see your GP and get them to explain it all. It is hard enough having one member of the family poorly but I know at times I have worried myself sick with the not knowing, when I know what we have to face it seems easier. Hope that makes sense. Sending lots of healing thoughts.
  10. My niece had this 20 years ago. They had her on bed rest and traction. She has never had it recur again. She was about 5 when it came on, very suddenly and was in hospital for a week and off school for about 3 weeks. SHe is a Mum herself twice over and as I said never caused her anymore problems. Hope he feels better soon. Alison

  19. May the rest of your lives together be as happy as you both look that day. Congratulations
  20. Kathy I would contact your mothers social worker and explain the situation. My mother went through a similar situation which unfortunateyl developed into something nasty and we changed her homes. There were not enough care staff on at night. An official complaint was made on five different counts and when the inspectors went in they were all founded. In some ways I wished I had taken the home to court, but other families were involved and I had to think of their feelings as well. At the end of the day, I did not blame the residents as they all suffered with dementia nor the staff trying to cope with the situations, I blamed management who were happy to take the hefty fees, but did not supply the trained staff to work with these people, or in my opinion pay them a decent wage. Don't let this fester Kathy, you need to get things sorted soon. Hugs to your mum
