owl
What are they going to do to those of us who disobey? I am lucky as I think I can get it organised and I have a garden, but some people will just say sod that and go out anyway. I don't think there will be funds available to have patrols out to catch senior citizens nipping out for quiet stroll in middle of night.
griff
It's just the 70's plus that have to stay in jazz... though god knows why, I think most people are sensible and would only socialise with their friends family and do the necessary, even if everyone goes onto lock down, how will it be policed?? How will they catch you nipping round to your mates for a drink? Plus aren't we supposed to deliver essentials to those infected?? My cousin in Ireland says a load of pubs are shut with more closing and they are going to be on lockdown from tomorrow rumour has it

owl
Relieved to say I have my dog walking sorted for when us seniors are put under house arrest. A kind lady near us who works in a bakery has offered to deliver bread etc to our immediate neighbourhood. Tomorrow I will do some shopping when it is a bit quieter, will probably wear vinyl gloves and won't be going into big supermarkets. Then away to the far end of the reserve. What I will miss is chatting with my mates in the reserve cafe. Lots of the volunteers are 70+ so it will be problematic for the Notts Wildlife Trust to be without them for a while. A friend in Grantham says 2 of her friends are poorly with the virus so I am not taking chances.
griff
Guess it's up to you Jazz, I won't be staying in though until they actually force me! I did it when I first started chemo and I would rather be dead than feel like that again! I will be going out for my usual couple of pints but I won't be kissing anyone or shaking hands, I will clean the tables down and will wash and sanitise my hands as soon as I get anywhere and get home
owl
I have enough reading matter and dvds to keep me busy for the duration, and I can sort out the family photos and put them in albums, and all my paperwork, and make the garden nice. Also chat to folk online and on phone and to neighbours over the fence at a safe distance. Edited March 15, 2020 by owl
eve
70 is such an arbitary age anyway. My neighbour is over 70 but is fit, healthy and fiercely independant. She knows we'd do her shopping for her if she needs anything but I don't think she has any intention of staying indoors for 4 days, never mind 4 months. There are many under 70's who are very much more vulnerable than her who are under no such restraints. It's ludicrous. There are no cases of the virus in Argyll at present.

Yantan
I'm in a group of rescue peeps that are trying to organising helpers, as nationwide as they can get, to help those who need to stay home. Shopping, dog walking, emergency fostering, getting pet food, picking up prescriptions. It's only started today but I'll let you know how it goes. Have they not given you the pneumonia vaccine Jazz?

eve
Sounds a great initiative Yantan. Do they need anyone in my area or is there a link I can use to offer help?
owl
Good for you, Yantan. These groups are springing up all over the place, I am glad to say. Yes, 70 is arbitrary. When I was 70 I was going all over the place with Wispa, tracking missing dogs. Doing heaps of transport runs etc as well as looking after mum. Admittedly I don't have that kind of stamina now, but mainly because of injuries and getting worn out by too many house moves.

Eve I will let you know. I'm sure they'd appreciate it and as I know you from here I can vouch for you. They are trying to do this responsibly with regard to volunteer and user security.
