phoebejo
Mr Hazells dad Alan isn't very well. His health has deteriorated rapidly in the past six weeks or so, so much so that Mr Hazell said last night that he doubts Alan will make it even to Christmas! I said he'll still be here in ten years time. What with his seriously dodgy ticker and a gaziilion other health problems, his doctor predicts he is liable to drop dead at any minute. Neither Mr Hazell nor I have any idea who to call should that happen. Or if one day he doesn't wake up. He doesn't get up until 9am so if that were the case on a weekday I'd be the only one here and would notice something was wrong. Should we call his GP, an ambulance or the undertakers? merledogs
An interesting one I found this list which says if they are at home then call the doctor
celeste
I think the GP is the usual one to call, they have to pronounce the person has died, that's what happened with my friends dad.
phoebejo
Oooo that list is really useful, lots on there that I doubt has been discussed/thought of. Thank you.

phoebejo
Thank you! There is so much stuff I'd never imagined! Glad to hear about the Bereavement Register so that all the junk mail he receives would be stopped.
Brenda
You will need to call the GP first to certify death, otherwise an undertaker will not take the body. I had to do this a few times when I worked as a Marie Curie HCA.
greys mum
I work as a community care worker. We have to call a GP. Don't be worried if the police arrive as well. It is often the case. Gps are really good and they will talk you through about what to do when the time comes. Big for you all. Jacobean
Yes first call is GP. They have to confirm death and reason so that a death certificate can be issued. Then you contact the undertaker. You do also have to go and register the death.
Spins4me
I don't think it's a morbid question. It's a very good idea to be prepared. Fugees are brilliant with this kind of thing. to Mr H,you and your family. Edited December 15, 2010 by Spins4me

Trallwm farm
Is this the same Alan who has made your life hell for years ? If it is then I would help him on a bus and leave him on the top deck. It could be weeks before you had to report him missing.
Happylittlegreensquirrel
When my father died at home my mother rang the GP , they also sent paramedics who waited with her until the GP arrived and then the GP called the coroner and once he had been they were able to call in the undertakers to remove his body from start to finish it took about 3 - 4 hours
phoebejo
Is this the same Alan who has made your life hell for years ? Yes it is. I can't say I'll shed any tears. Thankfully he's going to stay with his ex-wife tomorrow until the New Year. Hurrah.
rufus the wonderdog
If it's a death at home then it's call the GP. They will certify death. There are certain rules and regs. about sudden and unexpected deaths and also if the patient has/ has not been seen recently by their GP. And I don't think it morbid or odd at all - far better to be prepared and know what to do. to you all - at the end of the day this is Mr H's dad.
