phoebejo
Wally is till very wobbly on his legs, prefers to lie down but he managed to sprint, albeit in the style of a drunk, for some corn He's had corn, raspberries, spinach and cat food so far today. Not spoilt at all With a full belly he'll be better able to fight whatever is going on in him It's a gorgeous day out, they're all enjoying it and I've taken heaps of pics, Wally Poppy, who I'm still not convinced is a girl: Egeltine: With Wallys bum Robin: Shy-not-committing-to-being-a-boy-or-girl Paxo With even more shy but definitely a girl Lily Pie & Egeltine: A Little Chick Leghorn type lad: A Light Sussex lad sunning himself:
buddyboy
They look as if they were enjoying the sunshine! 4 eggs again today - only been 3 a day since the bad feather day, and no idea who lays which one, so at least I now know everyone is ok. phoebejo
Aw no, poor Wally, not wanting to teach my granny to suck eggs , but, have you isolated him ? just in case No I haven't, he's safely tucked up in his coop where he'll feel more comfortable. If he's got anything contagious the others have already been exposed to it. He's no better but no worse tonight either. He's enjoyed cat food with a sprinkling of poultry spice, raspberries, spinach, corn and dandelion leaves being hand fed to him all day long. I'll just have to hope for the best 4 eggs again today - only been 3 a day since the bad feather day, and no idea who lays which one, so at least I now know everyone is ok. That is good. I think I'm going to need to try something else with Valerie and her faulty egg laying gear. If she's not laying sand paper eggs she's laying softies and eating them
JulesB
Poor Wally, have you got any idea what might be wrong with him I'm trying to read up on all the things that hens can suffer from so I know what to look out for, but without frightening myself to death over them. I've been at work all day until about 7pm but OH reports that the girls have had a lovely day, scratching about in the run and dashing up and down the ladder in and out of the coop Lola, the biggest hen, seems to be constantly giving the little hen, Heather, a bit of a peck and a chase about, but I hope they are just sorting themselves out. Lola and Heather put themselves to bed tonight so I just had Tilly to catch and put in the coop. It took me about 20 minutes last night to put them away - they had no idea about the ladder so I had to catch them and lift them up, which meant scrabbling about round the coop with them shrieking and carrying on. I was festooned in bedding and poo by the time they were tucked up. No eggs yet but I have high hopes

phoebejo
Wally has just had a breakfast of porridge made from chick crumb, raisins and a good dollop of limestone flour. He really enjoyed it I've just put him in his old coop & run, not because I want to keep him away from the others but because I've got to pop out this morning and I worry about him not being able to move about quickly. Not that any cats bother going in the garden but on the off chance one did he's an easy target sat under his tree. He seems a little stronger than yesterday, he's certainly stayed upright for longer periods of time this morning than he did yesterday.

Be afraid, be very afraid ........I'm completly paranoid about hen ailments, I'm amazed that hens even survive at all, they just seem to keel over for no reason then get better again just as quick Glad to hear the Wallster's feeling a bit perkier today Enjoy the eggs Jules
phoebejo
Wally is off to see an avian specialist at great expense tomorrow morning in Swindon. He's still busy stuffing his face with whatever food I put infront of him whilst laying down. He's been free ranging and did manage to shift himself under his own steam to a different spot for some more sun bathing
