BillyMalc
Mel it sounds like you're going through an awful lot with your oldies right now. Hope that the vet will be able to diagnose and treat whatever's wrong with both Digby and Foodog. Best of luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you all. Melp
Digby is home The vet thinks either he has a brain tumour or he's got the canine equivalent of Alzheimers. He also has a number of other things wrong which individually are minor but altogether are more difficult. We can treat each thing but it's a case of one thing getting better and another thing going wrong. She doesn't think he's ready to go just yet though, but it really is a matter of time and it will be weeks rather than months. We decided against pts just now not for our sakes but because we feel he's not suffering unduly right at this moment in time, however we won't let him get to the point where his quality of life is compromised. Â We have Vivitonin in the hope that it will help his confusion [if it's a brain tumour it won't and we can't treat that anyway if it's the case] Ear drops [this is an ongoing ear condition and something he's been treated for daily since he came here] Malaseb for his coat [which she thinks is general deterioration rather than a skin condition, shampoo may well not help but he's not suffering with it] The lump isn't a cyst but is most likely to be a benign tumour. As it's not affecting any organs and is a surface lump we've been advised to leave well alone and just monitor the growth. Whatever it is he's not going to be fit enough at his age for any kind of surgery and its not casuing him any pain. He also has a problem with his prostate. He's had an injection for this before and had another one today [it did help last time] The problem with the confusion is that at some point it could cause him distress. For instance he could well forget the fact that he's blind and may wake up every day realising he can't see. That would be awful for him he could also become aggressive simply because he forgets who we are, where he is and what he's doing [he's like that now but she thinks it's likely to get worse] We could have let him go today and fully expected to be making that decision but if he's not ready he's not ready. What we won't do though is keep him going until he's suffering when we can let him go with dignity. Â We go away next week and have a dog sitter living in. She knows the situation and is fully able to handle his incontinence and general bumbliness [i kow thats not a word but it describes him well ]
