crazydiamond
Fantastic that this rescue is allowing Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to take a look at this pup to maybe make a massive difference to a deaf person. I have been a volunteer with this charity for about 5 years in a few capacities; puppy socialising being one of them. I started full time work with them a month ago in the fundraising department ~ I cant work 'dog side' as I dont drive ( Last year I jumped out of a plane and walked on hot coals to raise money for them. More recently I failed to manage a shark dive due to claustraphobia but in June I am walking on broken glass and am contemplating walking Hadrians Wall next year.) Hearing Dogs are in dire need of pups and young dogs up to three years old and for puppy socialisers in certain areas of the country, fosterers in some others. I am also a speaker for Hearing Dogs, giving talks to groups to help raise awareness for the charity, so I wont go on and on, if you ask questions then I will answer them if I can. I will say though that words alone cannot express the difference these dogs can make. Mostly when I give a talk I also show a short dvd, I have probably seen it over 100 times but every time I am reduced to tears when youthe recipients tell of how much having a Hearing Dog has totally changed their lives. Hearing Dog hopefuls need to happy and confident, alert to sounds, comfortable with being handled and health checked, interested in people, friendly and sociable. I dont know how they test them. I have socialised 11 pups for Hearing Dogs and fostered five for them, I have one of their Fallen Angels myself, my MrTrevor. Here is a pic of Mr Trevor followed by a few pics of pups I have socialised . . . . . The last three are of the same dog, Mitchell. He was my most favorite pup, I had him from tiny and he is now a working Hearing Dog.
ranirottie
what a wonderful thing to do, I take my hat off to you. My elderly friend had a hearing dog and he was wonderful, just a little black mongrel who was overlooked so many times in his rescue but he was her lifeline. The really adored each other and when she died he was given to another elderly lady who loves him just as much. x
