To Lurk No More....

I thought it about time I introduced myself, having just been brave enough to start posting after lurking for over a year!

I found my way here from the Wiccaweys forum. I am lucky to have 13 year old BC Polly in my life although sadly she isn't very well at the mo. She is my first ever dog as circumstances never allowed me to have one before.

She is a lovely old thing but the worst excuse for a sheep dog you could ever wish for. Scared of sheep, hates wind, rain and getting her feet wet... Other than that she is perfect....

And of course, the obligatory piccies!

Looking demure - a rare opportunity!

Not so rare 'collie with ball' picture.

I aren't going to look....

And finally, being a tart as normal!

I'm waiting for the vet to phone with test results but I'm sure it will be failing kidneys, so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Having lurked for so long I feel really at home here and no, I don't think this forum is cliquey at all!

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

Hello Penny :wavey:

Polly is beautiful and I think sheep are a bit scary as well :ninja:

Not had kidney problems with a dog but have with a cat ( not sure if its the same really ) what ever your vet says someone here will have some advice for you and everyone will offer support

really hope you have good news

Well, the vet has just phoned and it looks like diabetes!

I'll know for sure tomorrow when the last test comes back.

So, if anyone has any experience of diabetic dogs..... I know we have someone on Wiccs so I'll post there too.

Lordy, I HATE needles.

Hello and welcome :flowers:

Polly is beautiful

Never had a diabetic dog but I have known people who have and it was controlled quite well with medication. I think they also used to have to test their dogs wee daily  I think as like humans their is a variation in the condition between individuals.

Thank you so much everyone.

Happily, Polly's results came back early and, yes, she is diabetic.

I think the vet was somewhat bemused when I burst into tears and said FANTASTIC!

At least we can do something for her as she is definitely not ready to go yet.

She will be vet-bound tomorrow and they are tailoring her insulin round her diet.

So, off to make up her packed breakfast/lunch/tea/supper -
