Allie No Dots
18 years ago a little black and white cat came into our lives heavily pregnant. She gave birth to several kittens including the biggest blackest brute of a cat we have ever seen. We kept you and called you Pilkington winston! Pilks for short. You were the most regal of cats, you had only to look at other animals or people and they would behave. You grew bigger and blacker. Not one ounce of fat and not one single white hair. The other cats would bring presents of mice, you would bring wood pigeons! I remember one year we covered your collar in huge bells to try and give the pigeons a head start but it didnt help. You were a fantastic hunter. Everyone commented on what a handsome boy you were. We lost your mum just before 2000 new year and began to realise you werent young anymore. You disagreed tho! in 2001 you suddenly started to lose weight and a vet visit confimed you were diabetic. The vets gave you 18 mths. No longer allowed outside as you had to have the right food and we had to be sure you would be around for your insulin, we worried you would become depressed. But instead you limited your kingdom to the house, claiming a chair as your own that mum made sure no one else sat in! In a busy house having to sit on the floor because the cat comes first raised quite a few eyebrows 4 years after diagonsis you were still going strong. Then over the last year you went thro stages where you looked old, but you would be back to yourself in a week or so. Big, jet black coat without any grey hairs. Over the last few weeks you went down hill. Only you didnt bounce back as normal. On tuesday the vets told us they beleived your kidneys were failing. Tests done and results due back yesterday. everyone prepared themselves to say goodbye to a legend. only the tests didnt come back and you perked up. This morning you stopped drinking. We all agreed to go back to the vets one last time. Mum put you in the cat carrier and went to get her keys. When she came back a few minutes later you had laid down and gone to sleep for the last time. In 18 years you had never spent a day away from us and in the end, you left us where we first met you. And you still dont have a single grey hair. Fit and strong again, dont give those pigeons to hard a time. Will see you again one day
