we had a clean night i was soo happy this morning to find nothing on the newspaper! bless him. Fingers and toes crossed we're definitely over the worst now. Alex seemed extra happy to see me this morning as if he knew too Thanks to Sally and Anne for your comments:flowers: i've not got the yoghurt yet (will get some today) but put 2 drops of rescue remedy in his water this morning. Him and Marley now just snoozing on their sofas after soggy walks - when is this blinking rain going to stop

We fed Oscar NatureDiet so i know its good stuff i honestly dont think its the food, plus i wouldnt really be happy changing his diet - only because his owner said he always eats this Royal Canin light and that its the best one for him cos of his sensitive tum. When he first arrived, we gave him a couple of treats, truely not many at all though becauase he really isnt food / treat orientated so it could have been this, but as i mentioned, we both think it was set off by stress of the fireworks. I know the fireworks have stopped now, but i suppose once a bought of colitis starts, even if the source is no longer there, it will run its course...? He's going out on his walks 3 times away and still trying to poo, but cant. We're leaving paper down each night and each morning coming down to find brown /red liquid. He had both of his first tablets yesterday. He seems to be enjoying the wet sensitive food that the vet gave him and seems fine and happy in himself. Has anyone tried the bach rescue remedy on dogs?

Monday night - came in from work, Mark had just got in from walking alex and said he had been straining to "go" - next thing - diarrohea pile in the lounge cleaned that up and he was ok the rest of the night (withdrawn but no more poo). Tuesday morning came down to another pile of the same cleaned that up, let alex out, he came back in - i went upstairs for 2 minutes and guess what - another pile we just put it down to something he'd picked up whilst out. He went the rest of the day without any further "incidents" seemed fine in himself, not that interested in food, but he's not a particularly food orientated dog anyway. Last night i put some newspaper by the door "just in case" - i'm SO glad i did - this morning, poo, wee and blood alex was at the vets at 10 this morning and was diagnosed with colitis -- given an injection, told to starve him for 24 hours, then feed him some tinned sensitive wet food (he's on royal canine sensitive light at the moment) and a course of tablets. I called his mum to explain and she said "oh hes, he's had quite a few tummy problems and 2 hernias"! it wouldnt have made a difference in our decision to take him on, but a heads up would have been nice! Anyway, he's doing ok - starving hungry by now but he can have some food in the morning. Hopefully we're over the worst (I really hope so). On a more positive note, he and Marley are really getting on well I've told Marley that Alex is poorly and he has to look after him We can only think that it was brought on by the stress of the fireworks at the weekend, unless he's picked something up when out walking, because we havent changed his food. A friend has suggested a couple of drops of Bach Rescue Remedy in his water and / or on his skin. I'm tempted and think "it cant hurt" but just wondered what others think? He is a sensitive little thing ..

Day 2 in the big dog / little dog household! i think they've reached "an understanding" Thanks for your comments Doing our best - this 2 dog thing is new to us! They both seem happy at the mo. Its just hard because they're such different characters! its all calm now, both snoozing

Alex is the Lhasa who has been with us for a week on Sunday - doing well, doesnt like rain, or his space invaded, but settling in well and all getting to know each other. Marley the (BIG) weimaraner has been booked to come here for months (his mum is off to spain for a week, and he usually comes here prob twice a year whilst she's away). When we agreed to take Alex on, we'd originally planned that Alex would go to kennels for the week that Marley was here, as weren't confident about having them both here (for fear of not getting on mainly, the massive size difference, size of our house, etc...). We put Alex in the car on Sunday to take him to kennels, and ended up turning around - it didnt seem fair; he'd done nothing wrong, was just settling in and probably would be more confused than ever going to kennels. We thought - lets just try and see how they get on. Marley turned up on Sunday afternoon, both leads on as introduced in the house to each other, lots of sniffing and wagging tails - so far so good. Alex has snapped at Marley a few times, and Marley (bless him) is the softest lump i have ever known, so goes to all lengths not to upset Alex, wont keep eye contact, keeps out of his way. Marley barked last night (a big deep sonorous WOOOF) at a noise outside and Alex ran into the sofa in shock (mustnt laugh but it was funny). I dont think Alex means to "attack" its just a warning or maybe fear thing, but he does it even if Marley dares to keep eye contact for too long. I'm trying my best to give equal attention, but whereas Marley is a real cuddle monster, and will follow you and come sit on you for strokes and cuddles, Alex isnt like that so he still gets stroked etc when he comes for one, but not as much as Marley... As i type, they're both laid on their sofas - Marley next to me and Alex opposite - Alex is sleeping and Marley is surreptitiously sneaking looks at Alex whilst his eyes are closed. Hope you dont think we're totally daft for trying to do this - just didnt want Alex to have to go to kennels. Marley is only here for a week, thank goodness Mark is off work this week with the pair of them (dont think we would have attempted this otherwise!) PS - Alex hates the rain and Marley hates the dark so lots of walking at the moment!

Alex arrived on Sunday afternoon with his mum and dad. I think he's settling well - a bit too well in fact - I'm already very attached to him He's very sweet and funny - a real little character.. He's going to be here for between 6 and 12 weeks. More pics to come

aww thank you it was nice - quiet, just me, hubby, mum and a friend round for a nice beef stew and a couple of glasses of wine it was lovely - alex was with us too of course charming everyone - he's settling in nicely and i'll post some pics when i sort the camera leads etc

thank you all for your good wishes i'm really looking forward to meeting little alex i've seen a pic of him that his mum texted me but cant wait to meet him in the flesh i've spoken with his mum again tonight, she's arranged for someone to sit with her son on sunday afternoon, so that's when she's going to bring him round to our house (we thought that if his mum brings him, with all his stuff, bed, toys, etc - rather than us picking him up from her house, it'll make him feel as comfortable as possible, plus she'll be able to see where he'll be). She asked tonight if it would be ok if she takes a pic of us with alex so she can show her son who's looking after him.. i said of course, and that we can send her regular pics (of course!). As i said, his mum is bringing all his bed, toys and things round, as well as food (which i didnt expect..). I feel a bit nervous, but mostly excited to meet the little chap

hello fugees - it been a while - I just seem to lurk these days... Hope you and your dogs are all well.. Its been just over 18 months since Oscar went to the bridge - we keep thinking about getting another dog but the timing never seems right for one reason or another... i got a call from a kennels we help out at recently - one of the regular kennelers is needing a foster home for 6-12 weeks - the little boy in the house was admitted to hospital on Saturday for emergency brain surgery and the owners need someone to look after Alex (the 6 year old Lhasa Apso) for 6-12 weeks as they're spending all their time at the hospital with their son. We're arranging the handover with his mum and will hopefully collect Alex on Saturday Its a good way for us to get back into having a dog, and will hopefully take a worry off the poor mum's mind at this difficult time. We've looked after lots of friends dogs whilst they're on holiday since losing Oscar, but this will be the longest one so far!

I've been calling the kennels all week to keep check on this girl and am happy to report that she was reunited with her owners yesterday :-) thanks for your help

At around 4.15pm i witnessed a cream / white coloured staff x poss lab x poss whippet, poss aged 9 - 11 years old.. get hit by a car on Leeds Road, in BD10 area of Bradford (the **** driving the car didnt even stop ). She was limping quite badly. I got her on a lead and into our garden - the police came and collected her and she is now at the PDSA vets in Wakefield Road in Bradford. I have called the vets and she is comfortable and will be fully assessed tomorrow. I think there is something wrong after the RTA as she was very shaky, wobbly and struggled to lay down. I have told the vets that rather than her going to a pound, we would be willing to care for her, but obviously are keen to do everything we can to find her owners first. I have called DogLost and will also report to the local dog warden and put up notes in local shops tomorrow. If there is anything else you can suggest, please just let me know. Female estimated age - 8 - 11 years old Around knee high, slight build Largish lump behind front left leg (on side of chest area) - think is fatty lump type thing short haired staff x poss lab or whippet Full tail "rub" mark - pink skin seen in middle of tail Old scar on back leg She was a very sweet thing, not sure if possibly deaf as didnt respond to calling or clapping as such... Oscar is still here with us in a casket. Thought at first we would scatter his ashes, either in the garden or woods near us, but in no rush to do so and once its done its so final. Each to their own, whatever brings you peace and comfort. I quite like the idea of a tub so that his ashes help nourish a new plant, plus its moveable if we relocate. Really not sure what to do at the moment, think he'll stay here for a while yet...

Thank you everyone. The house feels so empty I feel like i've lost an arm. Since Oscar came into our lives, our lives have revolved around him. I miss him so much

Oscar went to the bridge today at around 3.15pm, peacefully at home. I love you angel and we are devastated. With lots of love and kisses from your mum and dad. Run free my baby, in pain no more xxxx

Its 3 years ago today since we drove to Northamptonshire to collect our Oscar. The time has flown by Here is a link to Oscar's story for those of you who don't know Linky.
