    I'm An Idiot

Well, at least it's just the 3 and not all 7 I am saying not another word (and I'm really not laughing either)
  2. I've been stung with with a couple of times. It seems they do it more with parcels from the USA (but perhaps that has more to do with the volume)? Leaves a bad taste though..... There's some interesting thoughts (and addresses) here: http://ipswichshopper.blogspot.com/2008/02...ndling-fee.html
  3. When you have a moment, would you feel able to contribute to the chook thread please?

    I'm An Idiot

( Happy Christmas....and I'll see you some time next year)
  5. It's great to see them all going off to their new homes
  6. I have every respect for people who raise their own meat (even though it's not something I would contemplate.....I'll stick with me fruit & veg) . Much better for everyone to have compassionately & healthily raised meat (well, except the animal, but you know what I mean ) Is there a particular reason for starting with quail, or just personal preference?
  7. ....or you could always knit them coats (nicked from the bhwt website) It was BHWT that I collected chooks from a few weeks ago. They were such lovely people, and the sight of those poor chooks broke my heart (not something I thought I'd be saying about a chicken). I was sooo touched at the way they chatted to me on the way home (yes, I know) and if you take a look at the photo gallery on the bhwt website, a lot of those look pretty friendly. I guess they may take a little while to 'come round', but who / what wouldn't after being shut away and treated badly for the first year of their life? It's true that not all of them survive. but the majority do. They have been money making machines, and it's just too much for some of them to cope with freedom. For others, they are just in such poor condition, they don't stand a chance. On the day I collected the chooks, I saw some ex -bats which had been rehomed a couple of months previously - the difference was amazing, both in their health, and their behaviour. It brought a tear to my eye! I am so loving seeing and reading about everyone's chooks, but I agree with 'Reb'. If you're thinking of keeeping them (or getting some more), consider the ex-bats too.
  8. Woooohooooo! Please can we join in even if we don't have chooks? (I have got a couple of free range eggs)
  9. Bless!! Di, I think (judging by his position in this photo) that Egg would be more suited to your home?!
  10. Those brown ones look like the ex-battery ones I picked up a few weeks ago (only they looked 'oven ready' at the time). I wonder if that's what they're called then...or are there others which look similar? I have to admit to not particularly being a 'chook' type person before then, but as they were all clucking in the back of the van, I found myself chatting to them ( no, I don't get out much) and now I guess I'm quite fond of them really. (they weren't for me, I was just being 'gofer') I was particularly impressed at how quickly they recovered from their "cr@p" start in life. Sorry Cheryl, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I've been wondering what 'type' they might have been......perhaps we should have a special 'chook' thread......they do seem to be becoming more popular, and I love reading the updates on your ladies.
  11. No, no, Cheryl! - you say: " yes, look at those claws / teeth / whatever....aren't they little treasures for trusting me so much that they feel so uninhibited"
  12. Sleep well Meg I really am so sorry
  13. Welcome back Poppy ...... my most favourite cat in the whole world We've just had a chat on the phone, and she's very happy to be home. She intends to let the whole world know about it, in a way only Poppy knows how! Good luck Di....earplugs at the ready.......your monitor guard has returned!
  14. Still haven't heard anything from you...... Can you give us an idea what's happening with this girl?
  15. Ooooh! Doesn't that mean they're all sorted then? Jelly and one of the boys to the people who found them, one of the boys to Katiebob ( ), and Spud to whoever he chooses really......how could anyone say 'no' to him? Keep doing all the right things guys.....you're all set for life
  16. Me too! If Spud loves his mummy, and his mummy loves Spud, it's only right they stay together Great news that he is a bit better this morning, and the others are also doing OK? I know the road ahead is still a long one, but everything is still crossed that they make it to the end
  17. Awwww.. bless! You sure are on a bit of a rollercoaster with these Cheryl. I agree the best course is to see your 'normal' vet with Spud and Jelly.
