  1. Evidently the Highway Code now states. "Upon sight of a dog , wait until within 10 yards and thenmove to centre of road , ignore any traffic and leap up and down around your puschair in a weird dance movement." ( The drug dealers around here move their stock in pushchairs, so are trying to move the dogwalkers out of the area.)
  2. Be afraid ;be very afraid. Election coming up and the Antidogiban is gearing up.
  3. This reminds me of a system that was once used to allow pedestrians to cross busy roads without fear of death from moving vehicles, over the years it was adapted with various sounds whisltles and changes. All to no avail as numerous people do lose their lives. I think it may be a suggestion from the Loonies that seem to be appearring everywhere these days. There is an election coming up and they want us to be frightened.......... Mind you I am more frightened at the thought of being one of the 700 people killed by cars each year while walking about, than being killed by a dog wearing christmas lights. ( for which i can find no figures) travelling at a lot less than 60mph.
  4. Are you sure? Please do not put words in my mouth. If you read my post carefully you will find no mention of murder rates whatsoever. But then you go on to remind us why its is well known.
  5. This article has been taken from the Standard and filled out a bit, after some removal... Local sources suggest that the omissions paint a different picture ... perhaps of a dog being wound up by a non resident father during an ongoing domestic. Drink drugs and grandmothers are also allegedly involved. It is also a well known murder area. The pinch of salt that should be taken with this story would defrost Well Hall road. But as a piece of journalistic manipulation - remarkable.
  6. Move over that squirrell ! I had even come up with a daily rate. However.. hugging is a 70s thing. It was made possible by supposedly better personal hygiene and enlightened attitudes to personal contact made plausible by misunderstood libertarian values, and promoted by perceptions of the lifestyle of the celebrity cult. It has as much value as the, so called " continental kiss" givento fresh air about a foot from ones ear; with which it shares the unique attribute of only being of any use whatsoever as a method of embarassment or familial control. Physically it is a counterfeit of the "cuddle" a longstanding precursor to human reproductive behaviour, imbued into small children by exposure to furry doll like constructions. Unfortunately; to a young mind , replacement of these by living creatures may be far too easy. As a cultural aberration , it cannot withstand the pressure of modern life. A return to the much more civilised " hand shake" is quite likley. Perhaps without the circular thumb pressure , but maybe with permanently worn rubber gloves. As a system of welcoming it is far overvalued and deserves to be left in the non recyclable bin of history , along with forelock touching and visor raising. To welcome and bond with dogs, it is enough to go down on all fours and place a hand on the dogs back. There is no need to sniff its bottom; dogs cannot be fooled by sillliness.
  7. The author must be a fan of Coventry's infamous planning surveys. ( 50,000 in favour--against 10---- there were no cards and no box for the no votes ) However we have elections coming up. I need a questionaairre that can be sent of to all candidates... espc th eembedded antidog taliban.
  8. On their website, just checked there is the lighter version of mine on the website now at half price £30
  9. I had a look . in the Coventry branch . the ones they have at the moment are a design that is not too useful ; but they may be having some of the HD ones in soon. I could do with a second one or maybe a market stall.
  10. Continuing the standards of an intelligent well learned gentleman; I would expect nothing less of my role model>
  11. well horns or no horns; as an alternative person , I dont want to be blustered by one or indeed be pummelled on my smoothness round;if this can make home secretarys an endangered specise , what happy wishing is there?
  12. "the right to roam" is no way a misnomer. It is a basic right that those who try to maintain land can be owned and probably by them, have been trying to restrict since adam. Claiming otherwise is an attempt to hoodwink the gullible.
  13. Er what birds? I know the area well but many years ago so these must be recent immigrants that the twitchers havent heard about. You can get your own signs these days that allow the people/community /landusers to overturn posters and instructions made by council. They cost around £18 per 300 and are weatherproof full colour vinyl and your own choice of artwork /wording , on ebay . Or you can get ready made ones from British Bulldog that say "loose dog walk" or " free dog area" but you may have to send details of the walk.
  14. We use a heavy duty pop up one. So easy , but dont lend them to army cadets to use overnight in a heavy wind, they get a bit sloppy. Retreat canvas every two years. Are stout enough to be okayed for being near the public on the insurance/ and by fussy venues. About £120.00 including the high viz ropes and the storm bungees and two sides. Strong enough to get the mud off with a powerwasher. Got it from Go camping.
  15. The middle pic is the worst piece of photoshop compilation I have ever seen. Its the same bloke four times ,plus the indoor lighting is a bit of a giveaway. It doesnt really give anything to the story.
  16. Teddy Texas now has his bespoke trailing harness and is about to be tasked on to a three day old rabbit scent. There will be photos ( we hope)
  17. Bablake. in the days when they were both single sex schools and physical torture was deemed to be a requirement for character forming.
  18. When will we get some action on the growing theft of dogs for dog fighting? More Asbos for dog dancers? This is a serious attack from the dog haters ; whe should make a bigger stand.
  19. I have to disagree. To blame the current outbreak of animal cruelty on the poor underclass is taking the focus off the truth. In fact this class often make good animal owners. Its the organised hatred of dogs and dog walkers by much cleverer and dangerous people that produces the culture on which such heinous activities can grow.
  20. This consultation is a fandango to appeall to gullible people , so that the false figures can be used for future publicity. Its just so puerile. Who should be responsible ? What a farce.
  21. This is what I call "Stir Crazy". A terrier is bad enough but I would imagine a bit of Border collie "nouce" in the mix would be an interesting factor. My previous canine minders were a pair of BC's who had got the manipulation thing off to a fine art, imcluding sitting in the corner staring at the wall for hours on end because I allowed the brother to steal a chew! Teddy Texas nearly got away with it . The first attempt to bring him from South Shields to the Midlands was completely sabotaged by his behaviour, it had to be rescheduled . The next attempt was only made possible by applying some weight and a strangle hold for the length of the journey. Then he tried to get a bad reputation by snapping at friendly people and then came the running away phase. It took quite a while to wear him down and its only when we discovered his penchant for hunting/tracking that he really started to accept things. So I think its a matter of creating or finding an interest. However one of the intelligent BC previously mention above once ran off and then accompanied a guided tour around Lancaster castle. I think I am getting abit to old to spend everyweekend with the National Trust. I can feel for her , having to move away the place that she knows and loves for somewhere strange. TTs other choice wasnt nice! I try to convince myself that she is off an age where a bit of extra comfort is a good idea. TT turned into a 10year old puppy, and really does still miss having lots of people about. He will stand and stare whenever he sees a group of people , and you can tell how he feels from his ears. I sometimes think he is weighing up the desirability . I hope that an old grumpy recluse with sausages is still winning.
  22. Poor Lady. Since I noticed her I have been having very serious thoughts about offer her a "long term foster" ( more to do with my age and health rather than hers). But there is always a but ! I need to get some bits of the house and garden made safe and also need to find a way of testing Teddy Texas ' potential friendship and tolerance. There is also a very big problem their rehoming policy. Teddy himself was 4 years in the kennels and he has now after 15 months. lost many of his "stir crazy" habits, and developed some new compulsion. The house training has gone well with him. This house is sort of half way between. kennels and a proper house , so not so much damage can be done. Its also full of cleaning apparatus and sanitizing equipment anyway, especially some very useful sprays. I was able to just wait until he thought he would like to go outside of his own volition and only shouting if I trod in anything. I havent approached Animal allsorts yet, as i have only just cancelled a caravan holiday at easter, so will have transport to pay a visit. I
  23. How awful.. Me too but i wish Teddy Texas liked westies!
  24. You should stand in the local elections. Try the Green party , you dont have to be a member for them to put you foreward No one bothers about rat borne disease any more. we have Weils min a retail park. I offered tio sanitise it for free ( 3 grand s worth of work) but they got two cowboys with no protection with rented Swirlaway to blow spray all over the kids playground. You should demand a full envronmental study
  25. Due to truncation in the title line this cropped up on my computer as a notification, but without any mention of " tickets" . Quite an interesting concept!
