  1. Best peace of advice is dont worry, let her get on with things, so many people panic and then fuss over them when they bump in to things, they the end up making the dog nervous, let her get on with things and she will surprise you, last year i caught our shrimp on top of the large crate, she jumped off the other side straight in to the dog basket, then just walked off as if nothing was wrong, shes been blind since she was 4, she go's off lead, she plays ball, she can do almost anything the other dogs can do, one thing that has helped our shrimp, is finding things game, she loves playing with balls, so i use a heavy ball, hold her collar, bounce the ball so she can hear it and let her go and find it, it helps her to use her nose and ears. the blind dogs site has lots of info, its worth a look. http://www.blinddog.info/blinddoghelp.htm http://www.blinddogs.com/tips.htm Also i dont go in for the dont ever move furniture around, if you teach them to use there nose, and teach them to use it every time they come in to a room or garden, then they will know when you have moved something, i am always moving things, and our shrimp has no problems navigating around it, every peace of furniture you own has a sent they can smell, you just have to teach them to know.
  2. Thought it was this weekend Raiye, the 8th ?.

  4. I would take her to the vets, when our shrimp started to go blind in her remaining eye, the first thing i noticed was she ran in to the wall coming out of the living room, she was excited as it was food time, any other time when shes carm shes fine and doesn't tend to bump in to things, she was three when she started loosing her sight in her remaining eye, she turns 10 this october and is doing better than ever, although we did need to teach her to use her nose more, this site helped me a hell of a lot when i first found out she was going blind. http://www.blinddogs.com/
  5. what you need is a stripping knife. http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dep...&pf_id=0230
  6. I clip some of my dogs out every year, as there coat is so thick in the hot weather it gets them down, i also find it easer to maintain there coat if its clipped out, when i get the clippers out now the dogs line up to be clipped as they love the attention.
  7. Have managed to read most of this post, i have been a member of DP for over 4 years now, and have seen quite a lot of rescues dissaper from there, for no reason what so ever, some there was a lot of lie's told, some vanished with out a trace, what gets me is the constant lie's told about some of the rescues even after they have gone, new people to the board take these lie's as true, as they know no different, thats what is the most damaging, at the end of the day he is just one person and its just one board, eventually he will dig himself in to that deep a hole he will not be able to get out and he will find no one will support him. Now days i only go on there if i am bored, i cant be bothered with some of the cliquiness (sp). laura g, Raye has threatened to shut down DP nearly every year, he would say he might have to close the board and then it would keep going off line then someone would ask is there anyway we can donate, and suddenly the sponsor lounge would get mentioned and people would donate to it, some even set up regular donations.
  8. I asked this on a photography club forum not long ago, as someone on another forum was getting hassle, and this is the reply i got from one of the pro photographers there.
  9. Because of the police raids on Freshfields it caused a lot of negative publicity and people did withdraw their financial donations, theres a possabilaty that they are facing closure . If anyone wants to help, then theres quite a few things thats being organized around the local area, you can contact jan robinson on LurcherLink, as she's organizing a few things, round the liverpool and crosby areas. http://www.lurcher.org/llink/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31742 Hopefully they can come back from this, but at the moment its not looking good.
  10. Yep its more or less well known to use peas, if you feed dry food make sure you soak it before feeding as that can help, also live foods every now and again in the diet can help.
  11. As most dogs get older they will start to get a blueness to there eyes, its nothing to worry about, as its a natural part of the dogs ageing proses (sp) cataracts normally start off as spotting, they look milky white although when they first start it is hard to see them unless under the right light, this is caused by a disruption of the normal arrangement of the lens fibers or its capsule, in older dogs they get something that is called nuclear sclerosis, it appears as a slight graying of the lens and is a normal change with in the lens, The loss of transparency occurs because of compression of the linear fibers in the lens. this does not significantly affect the vision of the dog. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?articleid=407 with diabetic dogs i dont know much about them, but there are some boards out there, although most are american, i am sure theres a wealth of info. http://www.petdiabetes.com/? http://www.caninediabetes.org/? hope this help's, but i would still get him checked over when you are at the vet's jane
  12. Can i have 2 please , Are you still thinking of doing transport up there for people locally to you.
  13. Debbie's diary is hear if you want to read it. http://www.greyhounds4u.co.uk/journals/ind...5-Debbies-Diary
  14. he just mentioned about x racing greys that it can be difficult putting them from kennels stright in to a in a home life, and being around different breeds of dogs can be a problem as they've never seen different breeds before, which can be true for some greys, what wasnt mentioned about the owner of the grey was she is Debbie from Greyhound For You, so has lots of experance with the breed, and rescue, http://www.greyhounds4u.co.uk/index.html The AMbull, i think it was the right choice, there was no one there to help her, the dog was getting unpradictabul, and it went to bite that assessor for nothing, a dog like that could end up turning out to be a dangerous dog, and with an owner whos fightend of it aswell it dosent bear to think of what life that dog could have ended up with, if she had have kept him.
  15. Just thought i'd update this for Mandy, unfortunately Sasha lost her battle a couple of weeks ago, she went down hill really quickly, and Mandy had to make the decision to let her go. Run free in the summerlands Sasha.

    Acupuncture

Don't know, when our penny had her's done, she slept the rest of the night, by next morning i could defiantly see a difference in her, i think it depends on the dog and how bad the symptoms are, with our penny she's not had acupuncture for a couple of months now, to see how long she could go between sessions, as it was getting to be every month she had it done, but at the moment were thinking of changing to a chiropractor, as she saw a greyhound chiropractor over the weekend and her problems look like its just slipped disk's, and stiffness.
  17. What would worry me about this is, what if a dog passed the test and everything, got its cirtificate to say it had passed, then a few month later the dog bite someone or another dog, we all know even with the best behaved dog in the world, something could happen to change it behavour, sometimes we cant put our finger on what happened to change that dog, if this did happen i would be worryed it could cause doubts with in the council about the test, as a owner of multipal dogs (9) although all mutts, i shouldent really have to put my dogs through tests, to say they are sound to be out and about, i would be worryed all this would cross to all dogs not just the ones the council are worryed about and could put all dogs no matter what breed more in to the lime light and in danger, no matter what tests are done or what dogs are band at the end of the day the dogs owning idiots will still be there, if they have one dog taken away from them, they will just get another one and screw that one up too, its people who need the tests not dogs. jane
  18. They were all wereing the multivet spray commanders, was a little miffed at why they were wereing them, as there was no explanation of why and they never showed then being used.
  19. Jim's a very good trainer, Ive used him before, he is always willing listen to and work with what ever type of training you prefer, hears a few people opinion of him, http://www.lurcher.org/llink/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24436 he will travel out to you, and is always at the end of the phone or will email you, if you are having problems, he can get very busy as he also helps out at some shows too, and hes always in demand from people, so if you email him give him a bit of time to get back to you, or phone him, hes very easy to talk to, never judges and i think mostly he gives you confidence in your ability's to do the training. jane

    Blind Foster

The best tip i could give you is let them get on with things, my girl gets treated the same as the other dog's she does everything the other dogs do, sometimes i watch her and think is she blind, only thing i do is watch out for is anything that could cause her harm if were out on a walk, as she go's off lead i just watch were she walking, as she will trip people up, her water and food are allways put in the same place, but furniture i have moved around before and she allways knows when its changed and does avoid it, she plays ball in the house and i found that it helped to develop her other senses more, as she had to listen for it to bounce and sometimes use her nose to find it, there are a few forums for blind dog's but i found although they helped, our shrimp taught me more than i could ever learn from someone else, and she is still teaching me what blind dogs can do.
  22. yes but the rest of the question was this, and also this some people wanted this dog pts, it was asked why, it was also asked why is this staffy different from the lurcher or the thousends of other dog that arnt cat frendly.
  23. theres no chance on this earth would i get in the middle of a cat fight, its bad enough my own cat try's daily to bite and scratch me never mind if he was fighting lol.
  24. Like i said on the other forum, if you get in to the middle of a dog that is in a frenzy going after somthing you are going to get bitten, wether that be a dog after a cat or a dog fight.
