  1. Think it comes with working in schools after a break. When I started at my school I went down with everything for the first year now I don't seem to catch much unless its a nasty stomach bug!! We have an NQT this year and she is constantly poorly too - so don't worry too much - although it could be worth trying the herbal immunity boosters suggested
  2. Thanks everyone = the dogs are a labrador and gsd and he had no kids
  3. Very short term - yes - in fact I've offered to have them for a couple of weeks but it could be up to six months
  4. I have a good friend who is about to separate from his wife and move into rented accomodation, he has two dogs - and his wife is refusing to look after them until he can find suitable accomodation for both him and his dogs. She has said she will send them to the dogs home as soon as he leaves but he is finding it impossible to stay there because of her behaviour. So - firstly - where does he find rented property that allow dogs - Staffordshire/Cheshire area secondly - does anyone have any alternative suggestions - I wondered about short term fostering?? He is desperate not to lose his dogs as they mean the world to him but does not what else to do. Thank you!!
  5. Me too - my mum wouldn't take me to see any more of the disney films when I was a child after I sobbed all the way through Bambi and when I took my children I cried again. Cried all the way through the Lion King and can't watch anything on the tv with animals on - my OH banned me from watching animal hosptal cus I used to cry for the whole night. My dad did tell my OH before we got married that if there was a choice between a dog and him the dog would always win - and he was right!!
  6. We lost Spooky our beautiful cavalier king charles spaniel this morning. He would have been 13 in two weeks time. We found him when we got up panting heavily and lying in a funny position- not sure what had happened. My two sons hugged and stroked him while we got ready to take him to the vets but he died. I'm glad he was with his two favourite people when it happened. He's now with his brother, sister, mum and our other dog. RIP Spooky - the best boy any one could have xxxx
  7. Hi I am a home school link worker and a learning mentor (2 separate contracts) but would think that its the same job with a slightly different title - If you want to know anything just pm me and I'll try to help. Good luck with the interview though - I love my job but unfortunately the pay is c**p Claire
  8. My mother has been in hospital on and off over the last year and a half and you're right - some nurses are absolutely dedicated to their job and patients but there are some that leave a lot to be desired. My mum has quite a complex and rare health problem but every time she goes in we have to fight for her to get the correct medication - some of the hospital staff treat both my dad and myself like we have no idea what we're talking about. Last week when my mother was drifting in and out of conciousness - I visited her to find her with a stale sandwich jammed in her hand, a normal cup with cold tea in, a yogurt with a foil lid and a cake in a cellophane wrapper. She had been left unable to eat any of the food or drink anything and she was already dehydrated and on a drip. I could go on for ever about the problems we're had but would be here all night. It really frightens me when I think of all the things that could have happened if we had not insisted on what we know to be correct treatment (as we have been looking after her for the last 15 years) and I just have no faith at all in the NHS.
  9. I would contact parents partnership - you'll find your local branch if you google the. They help parents with children with special needs and they will contact the school on your behalf. They have a lot of 'poke' with schools and I have heard they are very good at knowing the way forward.
  10. You can contact the school who may have a record - depends how long ago. If they haven't they should be able to tell you the examination body and you can contact them directly.
  11. My 20 year old son refuses to add me as his friend, he says I'm far too old for facebook. He said he would show me how to use it on condition I didn't request to be his friend! I'm 46!!!
  12. We have a garmin one too and I thnk its really good - given me confidence to go to places I wouldn't normally as I have a terrible sense of direction. My OH uses it too - I have said that its the only time he listens to a woman telling him where to go!!
  13. This is one of the sales calls which are recorded messages, I know because we had numerous texts from them a few weeks ago which lasted until around 11 at night. Really annoying but not sure what you can do - we are already registered with the TPS but it only applies to companies in the UK
  14. Definitely watching this - have liked him since I read an interview with him where he said one of his favourite smells was dogs feet - thought I was weird until then!
  15. Congratulations to everyone on their results, both my boys have left school now but I know how hard kids work to get the grades they dol. On the topic of paying children to get particular grades - a woman I worked with a couple of years ago had promised her son £100 for every A* he got - he worked really hard and got 10!

    Elsa

Karen, I've had the same email - I too feel so grateful to have had the time we had with beautiful Elsa, she was such a lovely girl. Haven't stopped crying since I found out! Run free at the bridge Elsa - I will always remember you Claire xx
  17. Thanks Kazz, Just wondered if anyone else had experience of their dog using one of these frames - how long their dog used them for, did the dog accept it easily etc All opinions welcomed - please!!!
  18. My friend has a seven year old male GSD that had CDRM? and has decided to look at the option of buying a frame for his dog. Just wondered if any one on here has any experience of using these - good or bad - please Thanks Claire xx
  19. My father in law was on holiday in his caravan 50 miles away and rang my OH to find out why he couldn't get his video recorder to work. After going through the many options my OH asked if it was plugged in to the electrical socket on the wall. My father in law said no, it didn't need to be as there was a cable from the television connecting it to the video and the television was plugged in!!! He thought the cable was the power cable - he still didn't believe us and eventually went and asked someone in the next caravan if they could help
  20. We are just re-doing our bathroom and I am very tempted to have undertile floor heating installed - we already have a radiator and the bathroom is quite small - does anyone have this? Any advice on how good it is and whether its expensive to run - it's a matting that is run from electricity would be much appreciated. OH doesn't want to fit it and thinks it will be a waste of money! Thank you Claire xx
  21. NAGTY are definitely worth trying - my son was a member throughout his secondary school - and they provide summer schools and workshops for gifted children which challenge them - I think that they may also provide the school with support. It is also worth speaking to the Special Needs Co ordinator too - if children are gifted and talented they are also classed as having special needs and work should be provided for them which is at their level and stops them from becoming bored. Parents partnership - their number should be available from school should also be able to give good advice. Claire xx
  22. to you - it must be really hard for you. I work in a school - have you thought about agency work for T.A.'s or perhaps you current head would consider putting your details on the schools intranet system to see if there is anything similar coming up - children are always being statemented and heads are very often desperate for someone with experience. Also I have two older boys so will get them to sort out their wardrobes - I live in Stoke so not too far away from you - would be glad to help in any way I can Claire x
  23. Hi I have a friend with an 11 year old GSD who is healthy in every way except his back end seems to be very weak. The dog is going to the vets in a couple of days but any suggestions would be welcomed as my friend fears the worst Thanks
  24. Map of the problematique by Muse - I love it
  25. Does anyone have any advice about my foster boy please. His nose has been very dry since we picked him up from kennels and we've put vaseline on to try and put some moisture back in - which hasn't really worked. Now it looks as though the top layer of his nose has gone darker and is flaking off - the skin underneath looks normal colour but is still very dry - any ideas please? Thanks
