  11. This is the email response I received to my complaint: I write in response to your recent email regarding a discussion on Roger Phillips' show on BBC Radio Merseyside on 31 December 2007. My name is David Larner and I am the BBC Information Divisional Advisor with responsibility for the BBC's English Regions. This matter has been escalated for my personal attention. I have now had the opportunity to raise your points with the station's Editor and hope to be able to allay your concerns. During a phone-on regarding the recent high profile attack on young children by certain types of dogs, BBC Radio Merseyside took many calls from dog owners expressing a very wide range of views. Roger was merely playing devil's advocate here: his comments were simply designed to stimulate the debate and encourage listener comment and interaction on this important issue. Roger Phillips simply suggested that it was not sensible for people to have a young child and what are considered dangerous dogs in the home at the same time. He did not suggest that dog owners generally were "stupid". He took a call from a listener who owns many of the type of dogs mentioned who was given a fair and balanced hearing on the programme, which was the point of the phone-in. Overall, the station's Editor feels that the programme created a healthy debate on what is a controversial and current issue but we are naturally sorry if you were caused any offence as this was most certainly not the intention.
