  2. I've complained several times in the past about this particular postie Griff and he's had a hell of a telling off from me too after he was nasty with Archie. They don't seem to want to do anything about him. As the rest of the posties are lovely and often go the extra mile for us I don't want to go to a higher level than the sorting office manager for fear of getting them all told off or sanctioned in some way. Ruby wasn't bothered as the contents were in perfect condition so she said "let it be". She's had loads of pressies. Her staff got her a lovely sponge cake decorated with pencils made of fondant, a bunch of flowers, a silk scarf and a matching silver necklace and ear-rings. Others in her company treat their staff like shite but it's always been Ruby's philosophy to treat others as she likes to be treated and it comes back in spades to her as they are very loyal to her.

  3. Have you ever tried the tanning booth, Griff? where they turn you round like a spit roast? Philip just came back from walking Candy and said he'd been round the field and was coming back down the jitty and met this group of late teen/early twenties standing near the end in clouds of very aromatic smoke. He said they were very chatty and complimented him on the fact his sunglasses matched his t shirt. I said never mind that, didn't you ask them where they got the stuff from?😏

  5. Neighbours 2 doors along, the ones whose collie likes to race Wispa along the gardens, called across to me with a lovely offer. They do not need a delivery slot they booked with ASDA 2 weeks ago as they have managed to go and do a shop. So they have offered me the password so I can use their slot.

  6. This should give you all a laugh...I've been having the odd Tena Lady moment as I've been coughing so hard. I don't have any Tena Lady, but I do have a pack of Bodyform I got when the letrozole caused bleeding, so I thought one of them would do. Unfortunately, being sleep deprived and not really looking at what I was doing, it wasn't until I plonked one in place and pulled up my knickers that I realised I'd got the sticky side against me, not the underwear!

  8. He clearly hasn't got any kind of handle on this one. If he hasn't seen the conflict in your family for himself he may find it hard to imagine how serious it is. I have had a chat with my sister (not mentioning your name but explaining the situation) because in her years as a minister she has had to organise help for various people in crisis. There should be an Emergency Housing Officer attached to your council who should be available outside normal office hours, and because of your serious health problems combined with threat of violence you should qualify as a vulnerable adult. This would mean that the council are required to provide housing under an Act in 2014. Worth following up.

  10. Anyone who is feeling down wants a laugh and doesn't mind rude language, find Fascinating Aida singing "Dogging". Philip was nearly in tears with laughter listening to them. There is another they've done but I won't recommend that one, it's extremely bad language. Philip keeps in touch with the people he used to work with, and a few weeks ago was Skyped by one of his female friends, saying her husband kept having bad headaches and now blackouts and was going for an MRI scan. She messaged Philip again yesterday, Sean had the results of the scan...a tumour, but until he's seen by the relevant department they wont know if it's benign or not. She was asking how he/we cope with knowing I have serious health issues and Philip told her all you can do is live life as normal, until the day that it isn't. I think that's the only way to deal with things, so anyone waiting on a diagnosis (Griff) or with family or friends in that position, act as if everything is fine and hopefully you'll find that it is. Thus ends the sermon for today.

  11. Best of luck with the scans Lol..sardine Sunday.. brilliant Hopefully ruby's eyesight will be back to usual soon. I am going to party party party tonight and for once in my life my mum won't care how much I drink

  12. No, didn't know there were any. My husband is a comedian! Our hamster has turned out to be rather reclusive, Philip was peering into its cage last night and I said any sign? He said yes, a tiny one by his house, it says f off!

  13. I can confirm you are no minger Griff, quite the opposite. And Steve is far too complex a person for it to be as simple as not wanting to be seen with you. Think of him as a rescue dog, where you don't know the full background, and with many issues that need worked through gradually. Which you're doing brilliantly.

  15. 😂😂 Suzeanna. I know a fellow Cumbrian who just cannot be doing with Geordies. He hates the accent & more than once has been set upon by a drunken bunch of them over here on holiday when he was a young man. He took up genealogy later in life so imagine his face the day he found out he was descended from a long line of them on one branch of his family tree 😂😂😂😂

  16. Just checking all is in order because of the trouble my asthma has been giving me Suzeanna. I was always a very "chesty" child and got frequent bouts of bronchitis & had whooping cough as well as the asthma. Oh yes, I've got my diabetes levels right down and if I continue at this rate I will end up out of the diabetic range. I'm going to go for it.

  17. had a busy couple of days last weekend with visitors but they enjoyed themselves, despite the language barrier. It was their first time out of Romania and were amazed at the shades of green in the vegetation. They have grass for a month or two. Outside that it is too hot or too cold. My nephew went gluten free and says he feels much better for it. He is a PE teacher who plays sport in his free time so needs his health and energy. I cut down some overgrown rhododendrons yesterday. They were taking over the bit of garden. The space is bigger now. Some branches were thick and were difficult yo cut, Last night and this morning I could hardly move my right arm. It is slightly better now but my elbow is painful. JIm is still in a lot of pain in his chest. She thinks it is scarring from the drain removal and should resolve itself. After we told her about our last appointment fiasco she contacted the oncologist and he agreed to another CT and blood test before his appointment on Tuesday. Only problem was the CT machine was broken. It was fixed on Friday so a scan was arranged for Monday. I think she is just being cautious- I hope so. Meantime he is dozed up with Morphine and anti inflammatories and spends more time asleep then awake. I hope you can return to normal life soon , griff. Having nightmare neighbours is no fun. You should be able to lead your own life without interference from people like that.

  18. Very sad Griff. Poor man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Very happy to help Owl whenever. Just shout 👍 I sent my DNA sample off today though they've changed the collection times so I missed today's collection. It will take 6-8 weeks anyway from when they get the sample. I may be told that I am related to some archaic grain as I noticed a tiny bit of my breakfast went in the pot. I had gluten free flakes made from foodstuffs typical of an iron age diet. They were shite 🙁

If it stays bright we're ...hold your breath...going for a drive to the Peaks. If any cop stops us I'll wilt down in my seat and do my best "poor cancer patient wanting to see the moors" act!

  27. The bird is free. Had to get a heating engineer out to take the radiator off and he also took the bird outside to make sure it could fly ok, which it did. It was a young blackbird so I hope it appreciates we had to get an emergency callout on a Bank holiday lol. Couldn't leave it to suffer though.

  28. I know they are vermin and spread disease and all that, but it was quite interesting watching a rat as she bustled along the patio, up onto the raised flower bed and vanished for a bit and then came back along the same track. (saying she as Philip says it looks like a female.) She did it a few times, always on the same line. I'm thinking of putting up a mini agility course for her.. a few jumps, maybe an a frame? would a tunnel be too much?

  29. I haven't met someone famous, but I was mistaken for someone well known in Greece! We were in Kos, and as we were walking past restaurants people were smiling and waving at us. I thought they were being friendly, though it did seem a bit over the top. We asked a young lad..about 12 year old..if we were on the right track for the beach and he said "You are on Big Brother!". Erm, no...I'm English not Greek, why would I be on Greek Big Brother? I don't think he was convinced though and we kept getting attention when we went into the town.

  30. WE had a chat about waht would happen if the lockdown was still operating at Christmas what would Santa do. My SIL commented that Santa would be self isolating as he must be over 70 years. After a few minutes grandson replied that he could get someone else to drive the sleigh and the elves could drop the presents off. Tonight he has a written a letter to Pepper-his elf on the shelf- saying he hoped that he did not have the virus a d would be able to come at Christmas in December. P.S. I do not have the virus. Jazz, my husband was a Queen fan . Queen music was played at his cremation.

  32. I have no idea what the mice are doing at the reserve. The Muddy Fork project which grows veg and also raises young trees for the reserve has been closed, but I am sure that Dom the guy in charge will be going to look after the fruit and veg production as that is a necessary job. There is a firm in Retford which delivers veg boxes and they take a lot of stuff. Also the beekeeper will be going in to check the hives. As for what mice are up to, probably having a lot of fun but I expect Dom will catch and relocate a few. Very young people did extraordinary things during ww2. When my mum was 23 and expecting me, she went on working until a fortnight before I was born because no one told her to stop. She couldn't get into uniform so was wearing a porter's coat. She was sister in charge of a small high security hospital at Didcot which housed POWs who had been wounded and captured, including some Luftwaffe airmen.

  34. I used to live in Llanarth, a village on the main West Wales coast road, about 10 miles south of Aberaeron. The village primary school was on this road near a busy crossroads which led down to Newquay. Typical "Show and Tell" day, with all manner of items being brought in. Then this little lad said he had something which his great great great grandpa had brought back from France where he fought in the war. Everyone was impressed and he had a brief moment of pride ... before he pulled a grenade out of his schoolbag and put in on the teacher's desk. Quick-thinking teacher cleared the school and phoned police. In minutes the bomb squad were scrambled and on their way from Hereford. Police put up blocks on main road. This caused delays throughout a large section of the road, and there are no ways to get round the Llanarth crossroads which do not entail narrow winding lanes and horrendous hills. Not good for HGVs and buses. A few hours of traffic chaos before bomb squad safely defused the thing, which was live. The British grenades contained not only explosive but pieces of metal to cause maximum damage. The incident was on the front page of the Cambrian News. Rather embarrassing for the family.

  36. Thanks Marion, might do that but I have to do some work with Jac first as he's a bit scared of people so a pub isn't the ideal environment 🙄 but I am working to get him more used to them and he'll probably be ok as long as we can sit outside. suzeanna that would be great, hopefully we'll get some sunny weather and we can get something arranged. There's a six month old Newfoundland who was following Jac about on our walk this afternoon. She loves him but he tends to ignore her. Doesn't stop her though and she is thoroughly adorable 🥰 Just had a chat with the lady at Dogs Trust and Lily's met her new owners today, who've been on the waiting list for a pup since November. She'll be the only dog so will be the centre of attention. Shes currently sharing a kennel with a 10 month old German Shepherd and apparently they've been curling up together 🥰

  38. It seems trite after Griff's problems to tell you that our power failed in the wee small hours. Anything plugged into sockets switched off although we did have overhead lights still working, thank goodness. At 2.30 this morning I found myself up a step ladder trying to access our not very accessible fuse board. The 30w fuse kept tripping out. I gave up in the end & went & got a few hours sleep. Our regular electrician is away in Yorkshire but was decent enough to call me back around 9am and talk me thro what to do. Long story short our big fridge freezer is goosed ☹ Of course the freezer was pretty full. I rang our local appliance chap on the off chance he was working - he was. If he has the right sort of item in stock he'll deliver it the same day, fit it and take the old one away. He's bloody brilliant. Well he doesn't keep the big American fridge freezers in stock, as they are too expensive to keep a decent range of them but he can get us one. Great. We were happy with that but then he said he'd lend us something to save running around friends, family & neighbours with our frozen food. 45 minutes later he was here with an under-the-counter size freezer AND a fridge as he said it was no good trying to do without the fridge. The freezer is 2nd hand but it's a brand new fridge! He refused any sort of payment, even though we said we would happily pay to rent them, he refused petrol money, he refused money for his time. He'll get his office lady to send us some brochures when she returns to work in the new year and we'll definitely be ordering our new appliance from him. All our other major appliances are from him. This is the sort of person who should be getting a gong in the new years honours. And he's like this with everyone. It's how he does business. He should give classes.

  39. Glad you enjoyed it Owl. I don't even remember what a party is! I stopped accepting invitations when I was married to my ex, when it dawned on me that his friends parties tended to get very...erm...friendly indeed! Not my scene, much to his disappointment. My mother lived in a very small and outwardly sedate village, and was rather taken aback to find that some of their parties involved throwing car keys into the middle of the table! Wasn't her scene either, as she had a female partner! She did find it funny though, these pillars of the W.I., school governors etc and their extra curricular activities.

  40. I managed to get a sit and wait appt at the doctors, and said I thought it could possibly be connected to the change in my blood pressure medication, as the breathlessness had started then, but not the cough. He agreed, and said I shouldn't have been taken off the felodipine at all, as it opens up the blood vessels and makes the heart work more easily, and Ramipril, which the blasted woman doctor had doubled the dose of, is known for causing a cough and shortness of breath. He's put the meds back to what they were but said if it's not right in a few days go back, and if it's really bad ring an ambulance. He did say my lungs are clear, and my heart had a good steady beat, which is a miracle as I often suffer from atrial fibriallation! I hope it doesn't happen again, it really scared me. My dear old gran would have said I was wheezing like a broken down mare! Not coughing now, but ears aren't right. Well, one is left, but you know what I mean.

  41. Lily loves telly, especially if it features dogs 🥰 Her fave is Lost and Found. Maz tell the receptionist if the doctor cant see you, you'll have to go to A&E. It costs my doctors £60 every time a patient of theirs goes to the hospital, so they are very keen to avoid that. We had a lovely long walk. Lil's recall is coming along brilliantly and 80% of the time she races back to me when I call her, but is she's interacting with another dog I might as well be shouting at the moon.

  42. I've been to the doc's and have to have a chest x-ray at our local cottage hospital. My GP put the x-ray request in the computer system. The radiographer is at the hospital every morning 9.30 to 12.30, no appointment necessary, just turn up and you'll be seen. Brill!

  45. You know what they say Snow..better a week too early rather than a day too late. If the poor lad is in pain, won't take his meds so the pain can't be relieved and his heart is worsening fast, I think the decision is being made for them. So sorry.

  46. Am in France now. Was raining most of the way down yesterday so a slow drive but the dogs were really good and we stayed overnight at Clacket Lane services. Lovely weather in France today, warm and sunny but unfortunately that is the end of the good weather and rain is forecast for the next two weeks lol. Which is a pain as the garden is like a jungle. Already got 6 garden bags of weeds and managed to mow a quarter of the back lawn before I gave up exhausted. Can see lots of soggy gardening happening. Off to catch up now and see what you've all been up to xx

  47. Social media is full of judgemental people who are always ready to criticise without knowing the facts. The way some adults behave online is a poor example for young people, and I am not surprised by the distress caused to children and teenagers by cyber bullying.
