Afternoon.

I'm a bit tired. Was up early to drive to Somerset to pick up Piglet and then drive home again.

Took Piglet and Breckin out for a bit of a walk as the first introduction - not sure Breckin really noticed a strange dog was out with him  Breckin is so unfazed by other dogs, he really is so very useful as a stooge.

Popped Piglet into a crate and have covered it over to try and get him to sleep. Poor guy is so very anxious - constantly pacing, panting heavily. Being in the crate is the first time he has stopped since he got here.

Putting a body wrap or t-shirt on is impossible so he is wearing a bandanna with DAP spray on instead.

I'll be throwing the food he came with away I think and putting him straight on raw - I wouldn't normally but he has toileted about 5 times since about 11 o'clock which seems hugely excessive to me. Especially for a dog that struggles to toilet as it is - he has a fused tail that appears to interfere a little bit. He does a balancing act on his front legs and almost doubles himself over to poo - lifting his back legs off the floor - looks most uncomfortable.

He seems to have been clipped on top, but not on his belly and he has huge matts on his ears that I'll have to do something about. He also needs his nails clipping and ears cleaned.

Going to have to just take it one thing at a time at his own pace. Will arrange for him to see my friend who is a groomer as not only is he matted he also stinks :glare:

Hello :)

Waiting to be pinged on Skype.I remain in awe of tecnology that can allow you to speak to someone on the other side of the world like they are in the next room

I'm a recent convert to Skype too. My student daughter was on earlier, showing me round her new room, and introducing me to her flatmates. Much better than phoning - and free!

Kelly whats Piglets story ? he is a lucky lad to be with you

He is 5 a working springer. Given up as his family felt they couldn't give him what he needs - they have had a lot of stress and heartache in their lives and now have a newborn also. He has spent much of his time in a kennel in the garden. I suspect because his behaviour is over the top in appeasement and non-stop pacing etc.

He also has the added problem of a fused tail - not entirely sure what has gone on there, whether he was born like it or it has happened over time. One vet has said it is ankylosis which I think is a form of spondylosis? Anyway he has muscle wastage around the hips, not sure if that is due to his tail and him not being able to move properly or something else. He knuckled over on his back feet a few times on his walk this afternoon - could just be because of muscle wastage and therefore being tired, or could be something else.

Piglet (I really hate the name but can't change it I suppose) doesn't know what a collar lead or harness is and is diabolical on lead - constantly spinning and lunging and weaving all over the place, a bit like a puppy who has never been out on lead but with more bulk behind it!

He also has a fair few matts, his claws need clipping and he smells..... I think I'll be taking him to the groomers as he has more matts than I can easily deal with.

I hope that TTouch, decent diet, regular walks and being given something to do will help him settle a little - he doesn't know how to just lie down and chill. But then most of the dogs we have didn't know how to do that either (well except for Syd  ). His behaviour reminds me a lot of Breckin. Breck wasn't/isn't as bad but will act the fool when he is unsure and often does the "I'll lie here so you can't make me do anything" thing, and is

He ate rabbit mince without too much bother tonight so I hope that he'll make the switch to raw pretty easily.

I'm currently watching him and Breckin trying to sort things out. Piglet isn't neutered and seems overly interested in Breckin's bits. Breck is being very good at showing him that he doesn't particularly want to be sniffed or licked. And is trying to get Piglet to play, only Piglet isn't that sure.

I love Breck, he really makes my life easier with other dogs - he is so good

Kelly, could you rename him Twiglet?

Poor lad, glad he's in experienced hands who can help him.

C has come up with a few alternatives but nothing really gels. But I really don't want to keep calling him Pig....

C has:

Twiglet

Fidget

Widget

Thomas (as in tank engine due to his constant panting sounding like a steam train  )
