suzeanna
They said on the morning news that he is critical but stable. A reporter outside the house said the child's mother heard him scream, ran into the room and found the dogs attacking him and managed to pull them off him, suffering bites to her arm in the process. Why oh why was he alone in the room with dogs, if that was the case? Don't people ever learn? The most friendly dog may snap if a child pulls their ears or sticks a finger in their eyes, and if one dog attacks then the other is likely to follow. Hopefully he'll recover and not be too badly scarred and I hope they wait until he can say what happened before they decide what to do about the dogs. Rumpole
http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/Toddler-fighting-for-life-after.5739849.jp it appears the dogs were routinely both kept outside and chained. Tethering dogs is my big issue and ups the chances of a bite incident hugely that poor child
Happylittlegreensquirrel
as you say poor poor poor child , I was heartened to see that the dogs have not suffered the usual knee jerk PTS at the scene type reaction. Not only because its unfair but from a purely sensible and emotionally detached view point to automatically euthanise the dog ( s ) you are destroying evidence If only dogs involved in all these cases were examined by vets and assessed by dog behaviour experts then factors like illness, tethering , exclusion from the household, lack of socialisation , supervision , training , diet , etc etc could be presented back to the public as reasons why a dog will react in an "aggressive" way and place the responsibity back onto the adult owners or carers for the dog ( not saying any of those are relevent here , more a general viewpoint ) I really hope the young lad is as comfortable as he can be right now

doggy.lover
Whilst I do feel desperately sorry for the suffering of the poor child, I have to wonder if such a fuss would have been made if the dogs were not 'bull breeds'
KathyM
Whilst I do feel desperately sorry for the suffering of the poor child, I have to wonder if such a fuss would have been made if the dogs were not 'bull breeds' There are some very interesting comments being made on another forum by a member of staff at the kennels where these dogs are currently being held. Apparently the female is pregnant, and the police have estimated their measurements from outside the kennels rather than measuring them properly. Despite this, one of the dogs has been identified as 1/4 pit bull by the police. Don't know how relevant any of that is, but it doesn't give me any faith in Bradford Police. Mind you, I didn't have any faith in them anyway!
Rumpole
The kennels should not be discussing this matter at all whether on forums or not they are supposed to be a secret ffs and in any case they are wrong, the dogs were examined by several people and a concern of type was raised on one of the dogs by a behaviourist not a type expert, they were both later found not to be type by a qualified DLO. who did handle both dogs. personally i think the police by allowing in a behaviourist (which many wont allow ) actually did a decent job on this one. Agree completely if that's the case, but the chap who works there is a nice lad and isn't out for trouble - he's very young and that's why I said "apparently". I hope he won't get stick for trying to be a decent lad. It must be very hard for him taking care of these dogs and knowing they'll be PTS. Rumpole
i just hope he never discusses any of my future cases that are in there because nice or not its subjudicy and very very wrong and could also be detrimental to any proceedings, and if he did ill have him.
