ranirottie
any tips on how to keep a westie white? I have noticed that other peoples westies are beautifully clean and gleaming. My Pixi is usually a dingy grey,or a nice poo colour (fox, rabbit, horse, cow etc she isn't fussy) or a nice shade of mud. She is a roller but even after a bath she is still not really white. Am I using the wrong washing powder in my machine? x Edited January 25, 2009 by ranirottie
lil_angel
You can get a special shampoo for white dogs. Ive just ordered some called Blue Pearl for my business. As the name suggests it is a blue shampoo but the properties in it help to whiten the coat.
blackmagic
I haven't had a westie but the two that lived opposite us were always pristine white. I don't they got to do much rolling though. You can get special shampoos for white dogs to make them whiter. Also those that show brush talcum- baby powder I think- through their coats in between shampoos.
ReikiAnge
Sno's a collie type rather than a westie but he does love to roll in fox pooh when he gets the chance and he's mostly white. I think he stays nice and white - his hair seems very fine though, so the mud tends to just dry off. I don't give him a shower very often at all. If he rolls in fox pooh I tend to wash that area (cos I really don't want to have to bathe him every day!) and he comes up like new.
Sherlock Bones
I have the same problem with Muppet - I ordered Chris Christianson White on White shampoo - it's not cheap but my god the results are amazing - well worth the investment! cheryl33
Johnsons do at least 3 shampoos for white dogs, P@H sell them. Try one that has got tar based stuff it (smells awful but does the trick) I always bath Henry in tomato ketchup as well when he has been rolling in poo He is bathed in Malacetic but you can get Malaseb as well which leaves their skin smooth and coat glossy
EAD
Lily gets fairly grubby but thats not surprising as we walk in the dirtiest of places I bath her 3 weekly/monthly. She does also get a dark ring where the tags on her collar rub on her hair though I dont know how to stop that Her collar and tags are rinsed after every walk and washed regularly. ranirottie
We walk in muddy places too and she loves puddles ! She is just a normal, happy, mucky dog now so I really ought to be pleased that she is enjoying herself after the star she had. I suppose a not so sparkling coat in between baths is the price to pay for a happy dog. x
Laurel n Hardy
The tar based ones are pretty good I also use shower gel on my two westies, Tessie roaches on the hardwood floor and gets quite dirty (I must mop that floor more often) and the ones in a squirty can that foam up are really good, as it frothes up in the fur, which removes deep down dirt too

lazydaisy
In the winter I try to keep to the beach as Harri gets covered in mud (he is a golden lab) If we go in woods etc he gets so filthy I have to hose him down!
buddyboy
Wrap them in cling film before they go out. China not too bad although that is probably due to the only off lead place being the beach and she spends ages charging in and out of the waves with Jed.
